Tony you ramble on because you ramble some very interesting things. Love your videos love the architecture in Edinburgh all over Scotland for that matter!! Keep rambling and I'll keep listening and watching!!
You’re such a character, love your ramblings 😆
After months of watching in anticipation of my trip here, it's quite something to watch your video from here! You must get up early to do these! It's nice and sunny now (10:30am) but probably more crowded. I must admit I'm hoping it stays sunny!
I filmed that on wednesday.
@@ClanBroonford Ah!! And yes it was a rainy Wednesday!!! Oh my!!
Spending a cold, wintry day catching up on all these videos...your walks down streets are so informative and truly show how easy it is to get around your lovely town.
A wonderful trip down memory lane Tony! We did that same walk from Windsor Street. I long to go back.
I loved the walk. I stayed in that area (Cairn Hotel). Easy transportation from airport to tram to hotel. There's a Sherlock Holmes statue I passed each day back to my hotel also. Thanks for bringing back memories. Even on rainy days, Edinburgh is beautiful.
The statue has gone, thanks to all the road works.
LynnS. Stayed at the Cairn as well!
The Broonfords Sad to hear that
Zamode M I loved the hotel. It was a great location wasn’t it
LynnS. Yes Lynn it was! DH said he’d likely consider staying there again next visit.
Love your content m8
The Edinburgh City Council eventually will destroy the architecture of Edinburgh , allowing all the beautiful buildings that were allowed to be knocked down, and the total crap that is being to be allowed to be built in place since the late 50's , i remember my hometown away back then . Still love my home city and always will for ever .
Hi Tony it’s the same in Wales , there is loads of places that are Roman and t he council have sold the land to developers and they have coverd all the history . It make,s my blood boil they have no regard for history But Money talks as useual x
I used to play in queen street gardens when I was a kid as my gran lived at north St. Andrews street. Her living room was a circle. You walked past where she lived. Where the bike was tied to the lamppost if you had looked up.
Scotlass down under I too used to play on queen street also on princess street as that’s where my friend lived. Which no doubt has changed they have put a modern building next to the beautiful older buildings which ruins it completely. They have also gotten rid of most of the original shops the only one still standing is jenners which is a shame that they added all those modern shops and got rid of the classics. I will still love it though my childhood house was in his video.
The beauty of Edinburgh never ends! Great tour Tony. Thank you very much 😉
We love your 'mumbling' Tony! 😊 I agree with you, i absolutely hate seeing modern buildings mixed in with our old ones, they just totally destroy the look of the street, its such a shame! The Old and the New Town should be preserved in their original architectural states!
👍 How to spend a rainy weekend... -> watching your videos! 👍
You are in rain...... watching me in the rain?
Any musicstore along this street? Going to Scotland first time 2nd of may. Travelodge hotel.
Love your country and great tour
Thank you.
Not sure what Panda and Sons will think of being described as a pub. 😁
That’s fair, I have never actually been in.
First, I promise I will touch the Bobby. Second, have you walked the South Bridge yet?
I Grew Up In This Part Of Edinburgh, Just Accross The Walk York Place, Behind The Playhouse, In An Old Tenement Block Right Next To The CALTON, Our Back Yard Was Part Of The Cliffside Named Notingham Terrace, Greenside Road Was Right Below Us, And It Was A Huge Block Of Many Very Old Tenements When I Last Seen It It Was A Car Park,, Sorry To That Demolished Doyels Home, Peice Of Edinburgh History, I Am Sure The Could Have Preserved And Included In The New Round About,, The Council Would Love Destroy A Lot Of Edinburgh, But That's What Ed😂inburgh Is All About.History, Architechure And Tourist's Who Love It,🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻From An Edinburgh Born And Bred Who Just Loves The Place,Living In The Philippines, Nothing To Compare Edinburgh, 👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻😇🇸🇽
The modern building at the west end, was formerly Mary Erskine's School. Closed 1966.
So much fun again!! Bring on the rain!! We can handle it. Great stories and I love the fact that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's birthplace is now a roundabout. It's better than John Knox's grave being #23 in the parking lot. LOL
Love Edinburgh, even in the rain! You did well to carry on through it all. Thank you for all your informative tours, I am catching up with the backlog in random order.
Princes St, Rose St, George St, Thistle St, Queen St. Got it. It's burned in my brain now. I'll be able to navigate Edinburgh New Town better than downtown Seattle. (well, actually, that's true. It's a mess down there)
Ideas for vid.: Tram ride
& Talking about new builds what replaced the historic building(s)
That were burnt to the ground alot of historic artifacts went up
In smoke too maybe you have pic/vid of what was lost!
Tiny, the platform at the top of the stairs, directly in front of the door. Is that platform called a bridge. I'm from Newfoundland and we would call the step/stoop a bridge.
So glad i discovered your sight. I am visiting your special city and you have given so many fantastic ideas. Although i have visited a few times before you have renewed my love for the city. Your a fantastic and charming presenter, please keep up the good work, as i am now addicted to your videos.👍
Great vid, once again! Your channel keeps me going til my next trip.
Speaking of... I just bought my flight for December this year! I'm so excited to see the Christmas Markets. I just loved seeing you and Kirsten in the markets and at the lights!
My home town , been back 4 times, now living in Toronto loved watching this as it is the very same walk i used to take as a child when i was in school, Edinburgh is such a stunning city love it., thank you Tony
Through it all you were one of the few with an umbrella ☂ one day I will travel I hope to Scotland from Hawaii
Duncanson is the oldest sop in the new town and the gardens also inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to come up with Treasure Island
Just love to hear about Conan Doyle
Tony do you know a shop called Stewart and Christie where there is a red phone booth.
Thank you for this we are going to stay at the Mode Hotel so now I know where we are ❤️🇨🇦
A tour of Leith Walk next?
Eventually.
For Your Imformation The Bramble Bar Is One Of Most Popular In The UK And Has Won Awards For Being So, And Won Thw Michellin Award Award For The Best Rest, 👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻
Oh cool. I didn't know, thanks mate.
Looking forward to this.
what happened to the live stream???
Maybe eventually. Kinda paranoid no one would join in.
I always catch my self waving at you on the video like you can see me. Lol love all of your videos always informative. Counting down till October.
I am waving back.
Cracking walk-about of Queens Street, Tony. Lovely Georgian Revival-style buildings. No worries about the rain, just typical Scot'ish weather. I enjoy your rambling on, so ramble away. So sad Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's actual birthplace has been reduced to a roundabout. Slàinte
This years summer is gonna be terrible, I can just feel it..
It always is.
@@ClanBroonford I was there for 4 days in July 2019. It was lovely. (oh crap, I'm talking like Tony now)
Thank you so much for showing those fancy clothes at ~2:59! I totally think you can rock that style! It's given me a small personal goal to maybe pick up clothing souvenir like that :') If it won't break the bank too much, at least haha!
I think i could pull off that style too.
theres a brilliant hidden cocktail bar called bramble next door to the city alterations/dry cleaning place. its down one of those lower level servants doors and its only marked with small brass plaque. we walked past about 5 times trying to find it. great place to go for a couple of quiet drinks with your significant other - very chilled out & dimly lit. really enjoying your videos tony, havent been to the capital for a while but feeling the urge for a day trip soon.
Will have to try it out.
First time I've had a notification that you are going to upload a video! Now what to do to pass the time for the next 7 hours!
Yeah, no Idea how that happened.
This was one of my favorites!
Tony
Have a look at the George Heriot building in Davie Street EH8 9EB 😜
Will do.
That was fun. Last year when we came to Edinburgh. When we left the bus station we went the wrong way first and now I know what street we walked on. To answer your question “why do I still listen to your videos”. You are funny and I love it. You are not professional and lmao. Nice to see you didn’t get blown away. Oo thank you for the Sherlock holmes info. My favorite movies.
I try to be as professional as I can...... I just get distracted.
This was great. It's raining here this morning as I watched. I hope I get to walk this street next summer. The Conan Doyle Pub is on my list now to visit, as well as the National Gallery. Last time I was there it was hot and sunny...for ten days. I never got to experience any rain or fog. I know you'll think I'm crazy, but after years of reading about the damp and moody weather in Scotland, I was a bit upset that I didn't get to see it. Again, you've created excellent content for us. Thank you.
Yeah, you got very lucky. Expect rain next time.
Watching this during corona quarantine 2020. Thank you kindly for sharing. Love your energy and humour. So enchanted to visit soon. Cheers. ✌️
A T thank you so much. Hope you are safe and healthy.
The Broonfords You as well. Both of you. Thank you. 💖
I love that you know so much!! I especially loved the info about Sir Author Conan Doyle. Thank you!!!
I know a little.... I just ramble to make it seem like a lot. lol
The Jam House is the former BBC building, my mother worked there in the 1960s, as a secretary.
I knew about it being the old BBC building, but don't know much of the history of that.
I think the dates are 1924-2002 when they moved to The Tun, down near the Scottish Parliament, then 2007 to Glasgow. Can you remember STV studio down elm row?
Love the videos, can't wait to be there in 4 days
Hope you have a great time.
Tony, have you done a video of the royal botanic gardens? This video was great too! Thanks
No i have not done one just visiting there. Its a good idea.
I like the name of that coffee bar at 1:21
My grandfather lived in a flat in one of those fancy buildings before he passed away in 2008. I loved looking out the old windows onto the busy streets imagining what it used to look like when those buildings were new. My Great Aunt and Uncle still live in the flat next door and I'm hoping to visit them soon. I can't remember the exact street they live on but I know it's in that area, I'll have to ask them about the key to get into the fancy garden lol! Right now I live in Canada as my family immigrated in 1992 but I was born in Edinburgh and huge part of my heart lives in that city. I haven't been there since 2008 but I can't wait to get back. My parents are currently over there visiting and I happened to come across your channel looking up Edinburgh history as I was inspired by the photos they were sending me. Happy to say I'm a new subscriber and I'm SO grateful for your videos, they are bringing back so many memories and are helping me to plan my next trip when I can bring my husband over to meet my Scottish/Italian family :) So thank you!!
I believe you were filming this on the 6th when the wife and I went to Roselin Chapel. And that's where we ate at that night. When we went to Scotland we saw so much, drove over 1200 miles in 9 days.
Oh this is great! I'm only 2 minutes in and the memories are flooding back: several of us from The Ben Line, North St. David Street sunbathing in the Queen Street gardens at lunchtime. A tube of Lancome tanning lotion shared between us, enjoying a bit of sunshine during our one and a quarter hour lunch break. The firm were key holders so in we went. Circa 1966 😀
Shallow Grave was filmed near
Love that film.
15:25 So funny...It's Mother's day here in Australia and my hairdresser daughter cut my hair for me this morning and it is indeed looking lovely 😀
When does it warm up?
It is 89 degrees here in Zephyrhills, Florida.
So, you want to dress like a Kingsman?
New York City has buildings like that, some are called brownstones.
Remember, if its not Scottish...IT'S CRAP!
Tony, you are a smarmy, funny kid!
Its started to warm up, we don't have the heating on in the house anymore.
Another interesting video, Tony! Love all the bits & bobs you keep in your head & share with us! Love it when you "geek out"! And you should grab a guitar & try it. It'll probably come back to you. I thought the same thing about playing a piano for the first time in years, but when my fingers touched the keys, out came Berthoven's Fur Elise! So give it a go!
I was not very good when i did play.
So many memories. Thank you.
I love that walk. It’s so beautiful and I love the buildings. The Scottish National Portrait Gallery has to be one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen. It was covered with a bunch of scaffolding last time I was there, but I still got some great pictures. Definitely worth a visit. The modern art section inside wasn’t my thing, but there are plenty of other levels. The library is a must visit! Thank you, Tone! ❤️ great video as always. PS: have you heard about the roses on roses street? I saw an article on FB about it last week. I was so disgusted and saddened by it! I can’t believe they are selling them off. 😭😭😭
PSS: the Conan Doyle pub has amazing food.
I have not seen that article. I will have to find it.
The Broonfords, I sent it to you in messenger. Check your others messages
Thank you for braving the weather to show us the sights!
It was very rainy.
12:10 he seems to be looking down right at us!
It felt like he was.
