Plastering is in full swing in the kitchen and Kylie has been busy next door in the lounge. In this week's episode Kylie tackles a project that's been on the list for (literally) years, installs a liner for a window and tries her hand at mixing hemp lime plaster.
Kylie, whether you want to be or not, you are a HUGE inspiration to me to do my own handwork. Guy, you can stitch her story like a boss! Really enjoyed the 'one woman show', with camera swivels and all.
Definitely need to improve my camera swivels 😂🤣
Guy’s giggle while Kylie gives a warning to look away. Gold!😊
This was a great video. For all of us non video creators it really shows all the time it takes to set up each shot of the job. Very informative. I know you always say it takes twice as long do to anything when you video it, but here you actually show the additional steps required. Thanks for educating us how much time and effort you expend making/doing all your projects.
I enjoy these videos because we see you actually doing the work. There are other renovation videos where the elves creep in during the night and do most of the labor, and all we see is a smiling renovator and the completed project. We can appreciate all the hard work that's involved.
We could do with some of those renovation elves 😂
You two are awesome ! Well done with the camera work and the work in the lounge, Kylie :)
You make a great team.🎉 I love it that whilst physically 're handling' the homestead, you are thinking of the folk who 'handled' it first. Loving intent built into every handful. 💝
"Lost of swearing" is usually a good indication that quality work is actually being done. As they say, "Anything worth doing, is worth doing right." and what they leave unsaid is, "Anything worth doing right, is worth swearing about."
Kylie, I’m so impressed by the work you do, all the time! But I do wonder, as it seem that the knowledge you have and the talent or way of expressing everything you work with, you must have some kind of engineering education or are you just a “superpower talented handywoman” I’m so impressed and love to watch you both work with the house and garden👏👏
No engineering education, just a brain that loves maths and all things logical (hence my previous career in I.T). I do have a lot of curiosity and so am always absorbing information and looking up the why and how to problems.
Our past renovations also really help inform us on this one (this is the biggest by far)
Well done kylie
Assumption is the mother of improvisation. ;-)
I'm going to embroider that and put it above my table at work, if you permit :)
Love it!!
@@lenkamaresova4116 Excellent idea!
Yes!!! First! Thank you for sharing all you hard work and you wonderful humor. ❤
Kylie can do more solo projects and record her work, because this one was flawless.. well more than good enough. It was interesting (and not in a what not to do) AND entertaining (and not in a all goes wrong kind of way). There is nothing more I could ask for!
Kind words, thank you 😍
I totally want to do more of my own videos, but I also need to learn to edit so I’m not reliant on Guy (and filming apparently gets easier when you also do the editing and learn what does or doesn’t work).
It was a great video, I didn't have to " look away" once 😊
Kylie, you don't give yourself near enough credit. My God woman you are amazing.
There’s always room for improvement 😃
Hi Kylie from Adel SA; you made a fab vid, I really enjoyed it. I'm about your age, just a tad older & was brought up all over the place, at a time & in cultures which still actively discouraged & impeded girls who wanted more than to be just a fashionably-groomed baby producing mannequin, or the submissive good woman behind some good man who society deemed could have his dreams fulfilled. The inquisitive daughter of an engineer, as any maintenance/repairs were needed, I just did it - DIY. 'Just do it' meant something before giant athleisure sweatshops. Workshop practices were my opportunity to play with fun subjects & tools - things that often-bypassed girls. Solving puzzles with research, playing with maths & logic, then seeing the physical result- DIY was awesome, like life size Lego & Meccano only better, because it was useful. Yet, despite opportunities & attitudes having improved enormously for girls, I'm still astounded by the many women who still believe it's "men's work" & beyond them. I've even been warned-off by female workmates, in advance of work social functions, not to tell their husbands/partners about anything I'd built or that I did all my own DIY, home maintenance etc. They were so afraid of having to do likewise & being unable. It's so great to see you just quietly get on with it without fuss, demonstrating that all DIY really takes is the willingness to research how & the commitment to work hard until it's done. My tiniest 'improvement' suggestion? Etc isn't pronounced "icksetra" like most of this country also mispronounce; it's "ET" then "SET--er-ah" from the Latin 'et cetera', meaning "and the rest". LOL. Btw I liked the quiet bits too. Too many channels focus on distractingly overpowering music & gimmickry, repeating themselves unnecessarily for excessive amounts of time & constantly grooming while watching themselves in the viewfinder, when they should focus more on the actual quality of their content like you guys. Good concise storytelling & editing makes a better video. Great work both of you.
Yes, I have a friend who does vlogs about his EV, he doesn't usually do long ones, but he did comment when he started about how much time it takes to film and edit. I suppose it gets easier once you establish a rhythm. Some people are amazing with the amount of content they manage to produce, particularly when making exclusive Patreon content.
I’m always astonished by the creators who manage to do a daily video .. it’s so much thinking and working on top of the actual work. It’ll definitely be easier when we can both share the extra work (somehow I need to fit in learning to edit 😂)
@@MAKEDOGROWBy coincidence another channel I watch, Positano Diaries, has just done the same thing with swapping roles - though usually it's Nicki the female half who does the filming and editing. Her partner Carlo is having a go at trying to film and is bumping up against similar problems. 😄
Great work Kylie - thanks for making the effort to record and to share - you’re an inspiration to us that women can! Thanks for putting the video together for us Guy - we appreciate you both. Best wishes from South Africa
Well done Kylie. I like you talking over the video instead of trying to speak while you are working. Hats off to you girl.
that orange tree is amazing !!!
G’day, best hello ever.
You are awesome Kylie whether you talk or not. I am impressed by the fact that you both are restoring this old building to its former glory. You are an inspiration to a lot of females around the world Kylie keep doing what you are doing in the way you do it. ❤
What about a temporary portable shed that can be shifted anywhere in future? That would give you a workspace now? No doubt you have thought of this but maybe not. Another idea is putting a temporary awning on the outside of a building to give you a shelter to work under... Martijn Doorlaand has done this on his Italian Alps restoration. His site has so many ideas worth following. Glad you are having some fun with what seems a huge challenge and very austere.
We have thought about a shed (very expensive, too hot/cold depending on the season, and would need a solid base that would take us away from other work) and every other option we can think of.
Our current idea is to use the tent (with the base removed) and the deck/kitchen shed once we’ve moved in the house ….
Well done Kylie, really enjoyed your take on filming. It doesn't always have to be perfect filming angles and a talk-through to get the message across to the viewer. Your D.I.Y skills alone are worth more than anything else.
I didn't even notice that you weren't talking until you mentioned it. No worries. Although I love how you tell us what you tell us, and I love the banter between the two of you, it's ok just to DO.
Don't be frustrated, you gave a great explenation with taking out and repluging the waterpipe. The next thing, the window spoke fot itself watching you!!
What a smart girl you are Kylie, all those skills in 1 video !!!
Thank you Kylie for creating the subject matter for this video and thank you Guy for creating the video!
I'm glad you did some of the projects that have been bugging you for years!!! I was knitting while i watched and i know that now it's winter you will be knitting in the long dark nights too!
Kylie, I adore the sentiment of the hemp/lime plastering connecting you to the house and meditative work. Lovely and so true of time consuming work. Its worth it and the house is appreciating the love and time you've both given it.
Kylie - what a great job and lovely to hear you do all the talking for a change. Really enjoyed watching you work (from my comfy sofa). The only thing missing was Guy saying ‘bye’ offscreen at the end like you usually do 🤣
Don’t listen to anybody else trust your instincts. Everybody has an opinion and you guys do a great job.
Kylie your very photogenic, smart capable, funny,& you keep guy around.keep up the good work 👍.you can do it.
Great video. I wanted to join in with the “mudding”. 🤣
The wall and window look awesome Kylie 👌 You and Guy really are a fantastic team 😀
Great job kylie. Enjoyed watching all of it, even the awkward camera angle changes! Think guy did a good job of making it all come together for easy viewing. Team work!
We’ve followed your lead on applying our hemp + cork lime plaster by hand. Your videos made it look easy and simple and fun. Now that we’re a couple weeks into using the stuff, I’m definitely happy with the way it’s going by hand. I don’t find myself wishing for a trowel at all. The direct tactile sensation on the palms and fingers (through gloves of course) gives tons of feedback about the consistency of the mix, the key on the wall, the smoothness / levelness.
The Kylie Show was awesome ♥️
Kylie, I really enjoyed watching you. Great job.
Somehow I don't hear my notification bells (well, I am a little deaf, lol) and it's always a nice surprise to find you here every week. It's so much fun to watch you! You two always give me a couple of good chuckles, even though it's not always funny for you as you're in the mitz of it all.
I thoroughly enjoyed your narration Kylie, and thought you made a great job of the filming.
You two are Rock stars. Such hard workers
I have an RV down by the Ocean and had my first waterline pex experience this past year. In a very very small space on a 100 degree, 100 percent humidity day. The pex experience was super simple but what I had to do to get to it had me cursing like a truck driver and praying to the Gods. lol. I actually cried when it was done. 2 days of aggravation. Fix one and another one blew out. Oh the joys of DIY. Good job Kylie!!
As Saturday is my only day off during the week, I always look forward to start my day with one of your videos. I enjoy your logical approach and the way you explain the process, because it*s very similar to the way my brain is working (if it's working). So on Saturdays I switch off my brain and enjoy yours. Greetings from good old Vienna!
Excellent!
*Kia ora Kylie, 🙂 I thoroughly enjoyed your video even with all the bleeps 🙂 You did really well filming it all yourself... well done. It was perfect to watch. So please do more filming. By the way, great job getting rid of the plumbing and getting in the window frame etc etc 🙂 Guy did well editing it all too 🙂nz*
Don't be so hard on yourself. it was great and really enjoyable ...although editing changes things. your personality ( both) makes me want to watch although there are plenty of others out there. FANTASTIC.
Yes ... an entertaining video! You two always make me smile AND are an inspiration. Not only for the work you are doing, but for your 'stick with it-ness' !! You managed to get out a video when obviously, it was difficult to get done. Well done!!
Good vid Kylie, well done . . . good editing Guy
Great video you two! Looking great what you’re both doing…keep swearing if it helps, I personally recommend it with the stuff your doing! All the very best to the both you!
Well done Kylie!
Thank you 😍
Nice Piece of work Kylie! Well Done!
Am in awe of how Kylie just tackles jobs....quite inspiring to us lesser confident souls....so am now going to try hanging a couple of pictures in my lounge.....small fry I know...but from little acorns .....😂
Great transformation on the wall.❤
Really enjoyed the video, Kylie. Would love to see more of yours in the future.
During the bleeping downstairs it broke to a Levi's Jeans logo at the beginning of a commercial. For a second I thought instead of the bleeping you decided to cover the bleeping by showing a company logo. Selling one second flash add time during bleeps. I thought it was superb thinking! Alas it was only a commercial, BUT. Maybe you could actually get a company to pay you to cover bleeps with their company logo!
Since the pipe in the ground is HDPE, there's got to be a transition from HDPE to PEX somewhere. Once you find that you can get rid of the whole PEX piece.
🤔It gives me the feeling that the outer part of this small window is higher than the inner part. This way, any rain that might fall on the windowsill will run into the house, right? Keep strong 💪
It might appear like that, but it’s not. The ‘sill’ slopes outwards … and because the opening is so small very little weather gets in there
Wow adding another YT life skill! I loved it
❤❤❤ Way to go! You are both awesome!
Well done Kylie on all counts but certainly chapeau to Guy taking on all the filming and editing 👊 Nice plastering technique. I was waiting Guy's 'Byeee' at the end for the role reversal twist... 🤠
very good job Kylie. loved your handwork.
Great video 👏🏼 as always.
Where I have a tiny window like the one you framed, I will order a double glazed single piece and install it. It will not open, true, too bad, but It would do little to cool in any case. Hopefully there are other windows nearby. I have also placed a simple shutter outside the little window to close on those few snow or extreme cold days. The shutter is not important. A fixed window keeps out drafts and allows in the maximum light since it does not have framing taking up space. The frame you build is enough to set glass in, using quarter-round molding around the glass and glaze. Good luck with more of your beautiful work.
Yep, a non-opening window is our plan too
Look, says the Wife, I just wanted a bloody Window.
Now thanks to your goodself. Framing a New window reveal isn't Easy.
Thanks.
🇮🇪🇪🇺
Kylie you did and amazing job filming! ❤
Great video Kylie. On Finca Life where they are restoring an oldstone building that has lime render they have said they find the hand marks where the original builders used their hands to render, so you are being very authentic using your hands.❤😊
How fascinating … we’ve not found anything like that except a date etched in the staircase
Great job, Kylie. And so true about the content creators who film, do, and then cobble something watchable together. The only thing I'm left wondering is why Guy didn't shout "bye" at the end (off camera) like Kylie does. 😀
Thanks for sharing another video. I felt rather serene watching it. You came across as very calm. Editing or are u really this calm?
A bit of both 😀.
Generally we’re both pretty calm people, but recently I (Kylie) do get quite frustrated with our current logistics (lack of space, too much stuff to move around all the time).
On the day when I was building the window frame I was in one of those frustrated moods (having discovered our timber stash was wet, had to move all our lime and OSB boards so I could set up the chopsaw ….) hence there’s no talking to the camera on that day 😂
@@MAKEDOGROW u just made me smile. I can sympathise. Thank you so much for the video.
@@asc3184 😀 and annoyingly we need to move all the boards again so Guy can plaster in that room … there’ll be more swearing for sure 🤬
@@MAKEDOGROWLOL 😂
@@MAKEDOGROW I just replaced the gutters on my bungalow working from a ladder. I sure got sick to death of repositioning it and going up and down it for this and that 😆
Well done Kylie 😊 you are a talented lady, it was nice to see Guy briefly lol I take my hat off to you both for all the work you are doing, and the traditional way you are doing things while introducing new technology into the mix as well 😊👍
I did enjoy watching!! Well done.
Love the window. Great video.
You did a brilliant job....enjoy your evening 🌻
Creating a view to the outside. Window framing and plastering.
amazing work in the wall and the video. I missed Guy's "bye" in the end
You did great filming and working.
Brilliant and looks fantastic.Love your work.👌👌👏👏💕💕
Very enjoyable to watch. Thank you!😊
I love your orange tree looks so healthy
Thankyou Kylie; A joy.
Kylie, I admire your tenacity, so did you put together a step by step test in pressure testing procedure for the company that made the underfloor heating system? Because you rock.
Lovely to see a Kylie centric video!! Guy, you should have shouted "bye-bye" from the background! Just to make it a perfect opposite for this video! Lol!!😂🎉😊😅
Good Job Kylie! The Window and Wall look incredible ❤🎉
Kylie your amazing…camera work was amazing also!
On the metal door replacement I could envisage a small centred square air window you could open + close. Just big enought so if you go out or evenings is quite secure. The actual door, I will have to wait and see what you do. Well done on this update.
Kylie, Hengis Pod (carry on Cleo) would be proud of your window frame( 🛞 ) .❤👍🏴
From Spain, you’re great, an inspiration! Thanks!
You have done a grand job. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That looks fab! Such an inspiration.
When I first glanced at your video, it looked like you were about to shoot someone through your window with your machine gun! Then I read the video intro!
Hahaha thanks for the laff!😂
You did a great job. Problem is we are gonna need more now. ;~}
Don’t worry, I have a plan to do my own little series of videos … it’s the only way that I’ll get better at filing (and learning how to edit). Not until next year though, once we’re comfortably in the house, and hopefully with more time
Yes, this video was very enjoyable to watch. You did a terrific job! I look forward to how the window turns out. It is very unique.
Kylie, it was a great video. Thank you for letting us share your perspective!
Hi Kylie, last week I had to do some fixing and I remembered when Guy's sister was there and you used your hands to plaster, so I just went ahead and mixed crack filler and used my hands do finish the job and I am very proud of it. Now for a coat of sealer and then paint. Love your videos. ❤️🌹🐝
Hi Kylie, well done.
I have the same sort of window and found I had to also close the small gap with a window because birds came in there and made a mess on the ledge. Also you must slope the ledge away from the window or water collects against the window when it rains.
Enjoy watching you guys. Keep it up!
O kylie , my bestie calls all small tools and cement mixers lady tools , she has her own lady hammer screwdriver set etc , you lady are a powerhouse builder and what builder doesn't swear a lot lol both you and guy are making amazing progress , make do and grow big .
Brilliant, Hats off to you.
Great job on the room and the video. The rooms are really coming together.
I really enjoyed watching you Kylie, a real woman doing the work and getting it done. So inspiring. I can only hope to do some of the work needed on my home; maybe with some You tube watching. Thanks.
Trust me, there’s lots of RUclips watching and blog/forum reading that happens before we do most things 😀
Good job Kyle, you two giving me much ideas.thank you
I.loved it! You are a natural! Really enjoyed this video. 🛠
Well Kylie, I would have enough cussing to make editing by anyone else another round of cussing. 😲 As for those getting their "knickers in a knot", you're doing the work. Unless they want to fly over, travel and do that work themselves, it's better for everyone to just leave things well enough alone.
I cuss quite proficiently mostly because I worked on construction sites with extremely fluent males cussing.
I lived through it. 😅
Someone said "you hit (hammer) like a girl." I bloody well hope so.
By the way, swearing is actually a very healthy thing to do. Apparently it's one way to alleviate stresses.
You've tackled a lot of things I no longer can or wish to. I'm done with lugging stuff.
