    Wick's hand is literally the "Deadman's Hand." Ace of Spades, Ace of Clubs, Eight of Spades and Eight of Clubs two pair is known as the "Deadman's Hand" in poker because it is rumored to be the hand that Wild Bill Hickok had when he was shot in the back of the head and killed. Many superstitious poker players won't play that hand for that reason.

      Funny story about the dead man's hand. I was in deadwood and got picked to take part in a reenactment of Wild Bill's shooting. Had to sit there and play cards and drink beer for 20 minutes while the actor told the story. He sat next to me and I got dealt the dead man's hand. I leaned over and said I think this is yours. He looked at it and laughed so hard he had to stop the show for 10 minutes.

    The card game symbolizes every character's fate in the film.
    John gets the "Deadman's Hand" and is the second to die of the four players.
    Caine gets a good hand with 4 Nines and 1 Four, but Four is associated with death in many Asian cultures. The final credit scene shows his fate is uncertain.
    Tracker gets a Royal Flush, and he and his dog survive the film's events.
    Killa gets the best hand, "5 of a Kind," but he cheats and has the weakest form of that hand: 5 Twos. He dies first because he broke the rules of his own game.
    In addition, John and Tracker change both their cards in the game and their views throughout the film, while Caine does not.

      Funny enough, I think that might be another bit of symbolism there. See, 5 of a kind- outright cheating. But if you notice, the card that’s doubled is the 2 of spades. When you’re on the road to revenge, dig two graves, in this case with 2 spades, two for John and two for the Marquis.

    • @YasaiTsume

      It was done both as symbolism and for the audience.
      Common audience may not know how to play Poker but they can understand a deck is impossible to have 5 cards of the same digit.

      @@zarander a lot of legally blind are not completely blind. But their eyesight is so deteriorated/diminished/distorted that functionally they are the same as completely blind people. It's possible that Donnie Yen's character retains a tiny bit of sight at extremely close range but nothing useful in daily life.

      Because it wasn't supposed to be a two pack deck. Proper poker never uses more than a standard 52 card deck, save for maybe the jokers

    @harrisondejoux8520 6 дней назад

    John gets the deadmans hand, a poker omen of death. Caine gets a 4 of a kind and a 4, another omen of death for Cantonese. Tracker gets a Royal Flush, the second best hand, can only be beaten by. Killa, a 5 of a kind, the best hand to have, but he had 2s the worst cards on the deck, implying that he had cheated his way to the top a guaranteed death sentence with serious poker players.
