When I was in High School driver's ed in the early 70's, we where taught defensive driving. Obeying the laws of the road, leaving early and not placing myself in a position to be in a hurry, looking ahead to avoid potential accidents, use of directionals. Now a days, with people it seems like it's offensive driving, road warfare, road rage, own the road, get out of my way, no patience or courtesy shown anybody else. Turn signals may as well be removed from new vehicle designs, as much as their used anymore.

I'm an old guy and remember these films being shown in high school. This one is very tame compared to the others. I believe that one of them was called "Red Asphalt." One of the clips showed a car being lifted off the head of someone who had been thrown from the car. As the vehicle lifted the smashed head partially regained its shape and several students ran from the room or vomited right in their seats. Of course, kids being kids this didn't stop several of us from totaling our cars in high speed accidents.

At least he doesn’t have to sell ties anymore. So, they could really pay a mortgage and support a family doing that back in the day!?! That’s what impressed me.

@@ThreenaddiesRexMegistus, YES. The minimum wage was considered a "living wage" back then. Unfortunately, wages in the USA started to stagnate in the 1980s, requiring TWO incomes to afford a house and other major purchases. Also, post-secondary tuition increased much faster than inflation, outpacing a family's ability to afford the education to move ahead. Throw in some institutions of dubious integrity that cashed in on money provided by the government on student loans, and now we have people chained into debt practically until retirement.

In school they showed us a similar video. A driver gets inpatient behind a truck and tries to pass it. Boom him and his family are hit head on. Don’t recall if anyone survived.

Like being in grade school again. Smith was a menace on the road. The intersection is still there but it is a major highway now and doesn't look the same.
