The past 7 years I've kept my colony in a drawer for hibernation. Might not be optimal, but they've never been effected.. I was once told that they'd hibernate despite the temps, and I supposed that is true. :0
You might jot have hibernated her at a cold enough temp, I do 45 Fahrenheit and it worked for me. Do not worry tho I made the same mistake with my colony on their first year and they are ok. The life expectancy may go down a bit though
I have my test tubes in there own fridge, once its time to bring them out can I just turn the power off too the fridge and let the inside of the fridge slowly warm up while keeping the fridge door closed ofc.
Dont get anything from ants Canada,he gives the worst tips on antkeeping and his products are overpriced, but yes they are good species. You can get a hundred testube for 10 dollars from amazon

Thanks for the vid, I've never had a colony long enough for it to go in hibernation so this will help me prevent an unwelcome surprise

Usually they go into hibernation anyway based on instinct tho. Do you have a queen who doesn’t hibernate?
