4:20 if im not mistaken, chaps are like over-pants that hook onto a belt or overalls, so it isnt uncommon to have assed chaps as well as assless
I don't think I've ever seen any with an ass. They're meant for horseback riding, to protect your legs from getting torn up by any brush you ride through. It wouldn't be very comfortable to sit in a saddle wearing leather pants on top of blue jeans, so the chaps only cover your legs.

Another reason Rindt was fatally injured is that he did not have his lap belts fastened because they were uncomfortable.
I think it was also a done thing among the drivers, ironically for safety, because in the event of a crash, it would be easier and quicker to get out of the car. RIP.
Given the amount of smoking going on in Colin Chapman’s heyday, I’m sure that James would’ve hated being alive back then.
