I feel like the reason they do it (at least for the female characters) has to do with how doing a one to one adaptation of their outfits from back then would be considered too risky and revealing for the ESRB of now compared to what they were able to get away with back in the early 2000’s. My guess/argument is that these “Klassic” costumes are supposed to be modern-ish renditions of the old looks but still making sure that the outfit is 99% accurate in spirit to the source material. Think of how Baraka’s default from the previous game was heavily inspired/modified from his original MK2 outfit.
My only problem with MK1's version of Deception Mileena is that they got rid of her cool pink spider design tail fabric in the back and replaced it with a generic black cloth 😭
This is why i preferred the more stylized builds the characters had in the older games. The more "realistic" look makes the costumes look dull or silly.

While i love that they brought back Mileena's deception era default, I don't really like the unnecessary adjustments they always do when bringing back the more revealing attire. I get them wanting to be realistic, but MK is already a fantasy game, I don't think it's hard to believe that the girls would don revealing costumes in battle, they already wear heels. Another thing I don't think works with the look is that while the fit is good, it looks unflattering on Mileena's MK1 figure which is my main gripe. Outfits like that won't work when their figure is made too normal imo with no accentuated curves

A lot of the classic skins look great, the censored and more covered up ones vary wildly like Sindel’s Deception outfit and Ali Mei’s Deadly Alliance outfit. Weirdly enough, some just didn’t translate well into the game like Scorpion’s DA with the burning head instead of a skull, Mileena’s Deception looks a little too loose, and Raiden’s evil skin looks a little off because of the amulet placement.
Mk1 is trash and they tried to get people back with characters and classic costumes that they still censor. Bring back the day when games could be games and not censoring characters in a game THAT IS LITERALLY MATURE and made for being DARK AND EDGY. This realistic shit has to go..
