    God bless you! Seriously a VERY helpful video. I use GiMP but never thought to use it for map making. I starting a Pathfinder game and a map would be an excellent touch! THANK YOU!

    It would be more helpful if you showed the toolbars.

    6:44 - 6:48 You drew a "river" flowing from a sea to a nother sea
    also, rivers don't normaly split, & lakes typically drain from one spot

    stumbled upon this today, super helpful. putting distressed paper texture underneath my stuff before coloring it was apparently too smart for me to come up with on my own!

    Good vid, 1 tip though. Rivers almost never diverge, they converge. If they are diverging, it's usually more like a delta.

    This is a stellar video! This is definitely one of the best tutorials I've seen for creating fantasy maps. I use Gimp for my photo manipulating needs and it's fairly similar to Adobe Photoshop with a lot of the same tools--of course, you may already know this, but there are a lot of people in the community who are unaware of the software. This guide was definitely easy to follow and anyone with a basic understanding of photo manipulating software won't have any trouble creating a map. I'm a fantasy writer, and I would very much like to see more content like this from you to help with my world building endeavors.

      did u find out yet? cause i am asking myself the same question

    • @TDGCmote
      @TDGCmote 4 года назад

      I just draw them as small peaks of the tops of trees, like mountains, just smaller. Or you can leave some of the filler area on the canopy without lines to give some impression of variation, you just have to be careful not to make it too dark.

  • @GentlemanWiz

    Can i draw these with path and then just brush stroke it? The main reason is that I wanted to make several scales for the map and if i were to just zoom in on the continent scale made this way, the image would certainly not look good. Not to mention the brush strokes would also be much bigger, right? (I know I can just draw again, but I'm just wondering if there's a more efficient way to do this)

      Daniel Kezaroski I find a lot of different textures on Pinterest. I think you need and account for full access but it's free and really I have been using it for years and it's worth it.

    how tf you do the decorative outlines so freaking good, it was hard enough for me to do the normal outline for the map let alone 3 more identical ones

  • @grantwertheim2858

    When you get to 3:34 and talked about creating water : you dont specify that the outlines that are decretive should be on a separate layer until after the fact of having them drawn. kinda confusing.

      Prastya Supratman at least for the rivers, it seems.
      But one really doesn’t need pressure or tilt sensitivity, it’s all made of lines that look very similar.
