when this game came out they sold it as a combo pack when you bought the Nintendo 64. I remember having to cut 2 Acres of grass to get the money for it.. went to go buy it at Circuit City lol my father took me ...he used to watch me play whenever he wasn't working this great man now has dementia but... when I showed him this video he remembered watching me play (crying) ....damn thank you kindly for posting this and it coming up on my feed.....God bless.

see the only problem about the n64 that quickly noticed, cause i had both copies on n64 and pc in my dads room at the time. The pc had more sounds and better quality. They ripped the sounds from the movie itself like when your racer goes idle or when you are speeding up (not boosting) and even included the ost Duel of Fates in the races. It shows up on the n64 on the title screen but its only like 30-40 secs and its not in any of the races like the pc version. graphics wasnt that big of a deal, but i think the pc ver. had reflections and such. I love my n64 but man i was like 5 yrs old when i figured out my dads pc ver. was alot better made me mad af
Pinkarmada01 I *loved* the PC version... especially when I played it with a flightstick. I used a Logitech optical stick at that time, and it was great for smooth cornering. iirc, I had set the hat-directional to control banking the engines sideways and used a pushbutton throttle for full on non-stop speed. I beat that game several times and really love multiplayer mode on a LAN back then.... aside from making me wish for a remaster, it reminds me how much fun we had back then with LAN gaming. Wipeout Omega Collection in VR would be insane on a Gbit LAN nowadays.

blackholecat If you haven’t tried it yet, I’d suggest Fast RMX as a modern scifi racer. I enjoy it more than Wipeout, honestly. It’s probably a little closer to F-Zero than Pod Racing but it’s still a lot of fun.
Oh man I have to re-buy this. I remember my local library used to borrow out computer games when I was a kid and this was the one I would ask them to hold for me every Friday so I could walk to the library and home after school.
Just go get Used wii, GameCube controller and memory card and trust me that game holds up to Times... I played it on my 3D TV I was amazed on the graphics!
The remaster appears to be based on the PC version from the sounds of things. They mentioned the Pre Rendered Cutscenes, which did not exist on console releases of the game (unless they're on Dreamcast but I haven't played that version so I wouldn't know).
Why don't they just remake this. Some random on the Interwebs did (before it was understandably made 'unavailable'), and it looked incredible. This can stay in my childhood vault.

It is somewhat. I use dgVoodoo2 to make sure the cutscenes stay full screen while the gameplay is 1080p. It also gets rid of the awful blank, blue background in the ice planet tracks.
They should get the creators of Gran Turismo to remake this pod racing game so it has similar elements to Gran Turismo like race money, upgrades and so forth. A pod racing track on Degobah would be unreal.

There was one on ps2 called Racer Revenge that was decent. Different, but as a megafan of the first game Racer Revenge was still good.

This was a good racing game. You had to learn and remember the tracks to get good. There were no gimmies.
I had fun playing that game. Nothing like hitting the booster and narrowly squeezing through a tight corner or launching yourself way up into the air.

I remember the Abyss track was so hard on this! If you didn't stay on the top track you'd have a hard time winning. Loved the game so much.
