Novy Urgal, Chegdomyn | Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM)

A series of videos about a journey along on the BAM, which was the construction site of the century, the most expensive and complex infrastructure facility in the USSR.
The workers' village of Novy (New) Urgal in the Khabarovsk Territory. Back in 1974, the Donbass construction team arrived here. And it was this detachment that founded this village. It is sometimes called the capital of the eastern BAM, where the railroad was built by railroad warriors. The main monument of Novy Urgal is dedicated to their labor feat.
Not far away is the working village of Chegdomyn, which is located on the Izvestkovaya - Chegdomyn line. This line began to be built even before the Great Patriotic War, and in the 70-80s it became the main artery for delivering goods and people to the construction of the eastern section of the BAM. Chegdomyn's main activity is coal mines.
Between Novy Urgal and Chegdomyn there is the “elder brother” of the first - the village of Urgal. Although now it consists of a couple of dozen houses, before the advent of Novy Urgal there were more than 4,000 people here back in 1979.
The Novy Urgal station is located on km 347 of the Izvestkovaya - Chegdomyn line. The exit to BAM from this line is located at km 3306 of BAM.
Urgal-1 station is located on the combined section of the BAM and the Izvestkovaya - Chegdomyn line, at 3311 km of the BAM.
Chegdomyn station is located at 374 km of the Izvestkovaya - Chegdomyn line. If you count from the BAM, then this is 3311 km (Urgal-1 station) plus 16 km of the Izvestkovaya - Chegdomyn line.
