Love my antix 2.0! Surfs like an absolute dream. I was not expecting it to surf as well as my dagger outlaw but I think it does. The volume up front is great too for inspiring confidence. I'm not sure there is a better boat for the Lochsa River. Great vid!
these two and the rewind keep me up at night. I'm needing to get a new half slice, i loved my antix but I'm so intrigued by the other two. my die-hard dagger friends all say the rewind is the only way to go love my piranha burn so I'm very curious about the piranha ripper especially after what you see Bren do in it. however the way you describe the antix 2 seems to be exactly what I'm wanting and I'm leaning that way. if their plastic was a little tougher...
I have the antix 2.0 and love it but at this point I’m up in the air about what boat will be next in my quiver. I was set on the scorch but the ripper 2 has me second guessing which one now. We need an on water review wade
Thx Wade! This is the comparison I was most interested in. I’ve had my M Antix 2.0 for four months and I absolutely adore it! 😍 I agree the M Antix 2.0 is a small-medium, and at 135 lbs that’s perfect for me. I find it stable and predictable, very fun downriver, and the best front surfing boat I’ve paddled. Being short and wide, speed is obviously not it’s strong suit, but sometimes that can be helpful. I’ve got a S Ripper 2 on order, and look forward to testing it out. It’s clearly going to be a different ride vs the Antix; faster and more carvy, but I’m interested to see which is more playful. According to Hipgrave, we may start seeing M R2s mid May, with the L to follow in ~6 weeks, and the S another 6 weeks after that.
@@ElementFreedive not really. My wife owns the small so I’ve paddled both. Definitely prefer the medium for most situations. The small was notably narrower, quicker, and more playful, but if I want play I take my small Ozone. I use the medium Antix on class 4-4+ and love it. My wife tried my medium and disliked it at first (felt too big/wide), but quickly changed her tune and didn’t really want to give it back. I recently met another guy who owns a medium and he was buying a large to use as his class 5 boat bc he likes the design so much. Ymmv, but the boat and sizes are clearly not fixed by weight range.
@@ElementFreedive you bet. Antix is definitely most playful of the group, but not super playful imo. I’ve only paddled the Ripper 2 briefly. It was a medium which definitely felt larger than I like, so I’ll be going with a small. That said, while I do have one on order, I’m skeptical ab the boat. It seems like they may have made the stern too slicey for how stout the bow is. I’ve heard running harder stuff is tricky w the stern, but is kind of the point of a massive bow. Seems h balanced, but time will tell. There isn’t a Rewind 2.0 as far as I know, but the Rewind is a good all-around boat, esp if you like Dagger’s softer edges (I don’t). Might want to check out Wade’s excellent podcast on this topic. ruclips.net/video/QdjmSRvNMA0/видео.html
Thanks for reviews!! Waiting for rewind and goat compare. Esp interested in a smedium POV (Matt W?). IM on lowest weight for the med rewind that I have. Its hard to get playful (with my intermediate skill)
Best comparisons and reviews on youtube I must say. I look them all. For an intermediate paddler (184cm/190 lbs) who search something for low volume rivers for downriver, playing and trying to put it vertical (stearn down). (sorry I am not english). Actually I paddel Antix 2.0 M but I have difficulties to sit in it (with the seat all at the back). I am happy with the ANTIX, but I am getting older and comfort is important. What you reccomend to change to a Ripper 2 ? I guess a M. The problem is the price because used are not in th emarket still. Ripper 1 you can find for yuite a good price.
@@WadeHarrison Hello Wade, but having not that much money would you skip the Antix for a used Ripper 1 or is the Ripper 2 that much better so that the investment in a new kayak makes sense. What would you do ?
@@andreasonline9282 if your around rivers that are deep and mostly river running I would I liked the Antix on shallow and playful but me personally I’m a fan of the ripper
@@andreasonline9282 si estás cerca de ríos que son profundos y en su mayoría ríos, me gustaría que Antix sea poco profundo y juguetón, pero personalmente soy un fanático del destripador
What are your predictions for the large ripper 2? I have a rpm max in my fleet that I've been paddling to death since the pandemic, I like it on the river but it doesn't squirt too well for me. I have paddled the ripper 1L a long while back and found it pretty aggressive, would like to try it again. I'm normally in an old playboat as I don't have many rivers nearby in Nottingham UK.
Right now the medium is the only one that’s available if I commented anything on the large it would just be just what everyone else has heard that late spring early summer should start seeing them
I finally got to paddle a antix 2, and it feels completely different than the original, but in all the right ways. It surfs lots easier, it is noticeably faster feels lighter in the water, and is way more comfortable. Can't wait for the rewind, antix 2 comparison. curious about the different plastics, is there really much difference for all the hype? Why are the plastics so different, what is their thought process?
Just wish there was a half slice that worked well with my weight. I'm always at the top of the small and the bottom of the medium! I have the Party Rexy because it's the only one where I'm bang in the middle, but the thicker tail still makes it difficult to get down without perfect technique, and I'd prefer some edges on it rather than the round chines it has. But hey ho. I'm a through and through beater anyway, so a new boat won't improve my skill!
Have you tried a M Antix 2.0? I’m 135lbs, so often between S and M, and that boat fits me great. I’m sure it’s not as playful as if I was heavier, but it’s not bad, and it’s fantastic downriver. My S Ozone (likely soon to be replaced by a Nova) is what I use if I want to really play.
@@kevinhill.8 It didn't exist when I needed a new boat (I had a small Ripper 1.0 previously). If I ad the funds right now, I might look at the new Ripper 2.0 M since the rear looks like it'll go down easier. Or maybe the new Exo, which looks like it has a narrower tail and more edge. Though as I say, at the moment I'm a full on beater so until my paddling mojo comes back I should probably stick to what I've got! 😂
@@FeWolf hahah I might have had slightly something to do with that 😂 and really a now would be a time for someone wanting a really good down river boat the ripper 1.0 still a amazing all round river runner
I absolutely hate it that all these new boats are so f*cking expensive. I mean they're good but 1500 euro or even more is too much in my opinion and if you try to get them used they aren't even that much cheaper or you just won't get one. Thats just ridiculus.
I actually disagree. Not sure if you listen to Hammer Factor, but John Weld (co-owner Immersion Research) makes a pretty compelling argument that, at least until recently, boat prices had been stagnant for at least a decade, and that manufacturers were being squeezed to the point of these companies not being tenable long-term. He was arguing (like two years ago) that $2K was the price we should be paying for boats. He doesn’t sell boats, but he knows the business, and clearly his company can only thrive if the sport is sustainable and growing. And it goes beyond just survival. He also talks about companies that are thriving being able to do things to grow our sport long-term like put on demo events, support local organizations that get kids involved, etc. And if we want innovation and new designs, we have to be willing to pay for it imo. Something to think about for sure. I’m all for higher prices if it means long-term success of the sport and sweet new boats on the regular. 🤷🏼♂️
@@kevinhill.8 I have to agree, and after all, price of everything has creeped up, but the used boat market is insane, EU also has some heavy import taxes, I lived there 16 yrs.
And how much does your mid range mountain bike run? $5K? And the near constant maintenance of a bike ridden hard? $1.5K is pretty cheap for a kayak. Wish the market would support a higher price point on kayaks so that carbon fiber models would be viable at volume.

Totally agree the Antix 2 is so good surfing
Excited to see this next to a Rewind - I feel like those two have the most similarities, so it'll be cool to see how the design nuances compare.

I hope you can make a on water review of the Lettmann Machete 85. There is quiete a hype about this boat here.
I have been working on getting a demo will see this weekend
I don't know how the ozone is overlooked as a toe to toe with the antix...I wish we could see what Dane would/could do with a pyranha hull.
