The perfect chaser to Saturday Night is Breakfast at Sweethearts. Another chisel classic.

That clip is Kings Cross Sydney 40 years ago, sad to think that a lot of those in the clip are no longer with us. Lived fast and died pretty young, a lot of my friends lived that lifestyle as well. I used to drink a bit too much as a 20 something but never touched anything harder than that, unlike many of those in this clip on the street.

The joy of having multiple world-class singers in your band. I particularly love Jimmy Barnes taking the more backing role here to Ian Moss's lead.

The other singer in Chisel is Ian Moss or Mossy as he's called here. This clip was filmed in a suburb of Sydney called Kings Cross. Full of Strip Clubs and Night Clubs. Saturday night in "The Cross" was always an eye opener 😂. After partying all night, we used to head for a little cafe/diner called Sweethearts, grab a seat by the window to people watch. Cold Chisel have a song called Breakfast at Sweethearts that you might like to react to.

I'll never forget introducing a guy to Mossy at The Playroom on the Gold Coast. I was a roadie and had one of my housemates with me. He was walking away saying " ian moss shook my hand, I shook hands with Mossy " I never understood that idolised view of musicians. I had worked for a couple of bands the bass player for Mossy had been in. Joe Embrol, good player and having been in the industry for a few years, id run into Chisel a few times. Ahhhhhhh the Australian pub rock circuit was absolutely amazing. Some gigs were scarry places, but we persevered and lived to gig another day. Swanee giving a lecture to the Rockett's one night in a band room drunk as a skunk. Telling the band that they had to do more to support Wendy in making it a good show.

    • @iankearns774
      @iankearns774 3 месяца назад

Wendy Stapleton should have been a huge act in her own right, good band and some great tunes. I think you just explained why Wendy & the Rocketts never made it big.

Chisel's discography is so diverse but they rarely produced a dud. I love the way this song slips into the minor key for the melancholy/storytelling verses then back to the major for the choruses. It's a journey.

This song was on their Twentieth Century album, released in 1984 after their breakup. World class music. They have reformed since multiple times for concerts and albums.
Shout out and well wishes to my favourite singer, Jimmy Barnes aka Barnsey, who’s in hospital having more surgery on his hip. Get well soon ❤

  • @barbararees604

The thing I really loved about cold chisel is their ability to tell great stories, where the music fits the mood and they were never afraid to cross all sorts of genres, never locked themselves into the same old same old.
I have a few suggestions for you in the Australian arena, you might enjoy Renee Geyer, the black sorrows and the lead singer's previous band Jo Jo Zep and the falcons, John Farnham, skyhooks, Billy Thorpe, Sherbet, and even further back with the easy beats, and you simply have to hear Stevie Wright (ex singer of the easy beats) do the first ever 3 part and 11 minute song Evie, it's very emotive. Oh and his song black eyed bruiser, which is later covered by another Aussie band called rose tattoo. The lead singer, Angry Anderson, is in the movie Mad Max - beyond thunderdome, the short bald guy.
Also, you might enjoy the early stuff from INXS and Icehouse, when their name was the flowers, specially the songs sister, we can get together and I can't help myself.
Other great ones to hear are Russell Morris, flash and the pan, the loved ones, Matt finish, the radiators, the living end and end of fashion . There's just too many to mention, but that's heaps for you to go on for quite a while.😅 😁

Yet just another Cold Chisel song that tells a story of reality. From pure Rock, to Ballards and Blues, Cold Chisel had it all. Aussie Legends that still continue to bring us music pleasure.
Two fabulous singers/voices (jimmy and Ian) that fronted the band and each giving the other a place to shine and show their talent. Cold Chisel will forever be remembered as honest pioneers that led the way.

Oh my god! I was a young kid in the 80’s born in the year 78 . All I remember from this song back in the 80’s is 🎵Saturday night do do do do do do do🎵 😂😂 the rest of the lyrics just went over my head and cause I was having flashbacks the lyrics still went over my head. Think I need to rewatch this again😂😂

They were right at their peak here...unfortunately the album, Twentieth Century, was released after their initial breakup. Not too many have suggested it yet but you should do "Flame Trees" (official video) as it is a much beloved ballad. This video was filmed at the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Kings Cross/Paddington, Sydney. The main lead singer here is lead guitarist, Ian Moss. Thanks for the reaction Mike.

    Forever now
    Choir girl
You got nothing I want (their reaction to American music labels)
And to get an idea of just how great they were live at their peak:
    Wild Thing (last stand tour)

i like this song but i think it's a bad suggestion to try to give someone an idea of what the band is like. Certainly not the best of what they can do.
