The day has finally come. I am joining The Scarlet Lady, Virgin Voyages and I couldn't be more excited to bring you along on this journey. This is the next step in my career onboard cruise ships and I'm grateful the time has finally come! I hope you enjoy this vlog.

I wish I would have even thought about working on a ship when I was in my 20s and unsure about my goals in life. At least for a few years. Now I’m almost 50 and watch just to see behind the scenes of my favorite vacation activity!
that actually brings up a really good question … what’s the oldest age of new crew members? I remember reading something a good few years ago, that (some) retire single males were being given free cruises, in return for spending a number of hours a day dancing with the retired single female passengers.
@@Martin.Ferrier I’m 34 trying to apply to work on a cruise ship. I think it just really depends on where you are in life and your goals. I’m sure a lot of the ship’s officers are older with families.
@@geminidragonreads go for it! my days of travel for work, and living in shared accommodation, is past me… but it’s an experience I’ll recommend to anybody (who has wanderlust)

Really enjoy watching your videos and thank you for sharing. I wonder how many youngsters go on to follow in your footsteps having watched your videos. I’m in my 60’s now but I would seriously consider working on a cruise ship if I had my time again.

So interesting seeing larger ships.
I worked on ships for almost 10 years. I’ve been back home for 11.
I spent 5 on Oceania Insignia and Regatta. Then azamara Journey.
Small comparatively speaking. (686 passengers)
We definitely shared cabins back then, even the shops staff shared together.
But I was dating a Romanian (chief housekeeper) for 8 years so we had our own cabin. If we faught I’d go back to my bunk room with another spa department to get some down time away.
I was LT facials. I’m sure the pay structure has changed in spas. We worked 8-8.
3 days off in a 14 day cruise. Embark was always a half day off but was it really? Then depending on management we got full days off or half days. Port clean was the worst but even worse was inventory after a 12 hour shift. Esp after a hangover in the crew bar.
I’d love to see a video of the crew bar or bars.
We were so small we didn’t even have our own staff pool. Just a tiny crew bar. Made the best of it. Still an esthetician after 23 years (beauty Therepist)

I joined ships later in my life. I was 47 then. I don't regret any bit of it. Although now that I'm on land and have my own business make a better living still miss the old days on ships, which hasn't been that long ago.
Question: I am cruising on Princess to Alaska solo in a double cabin. How much extra should I tip? I know the crew count on double occupancy for tips. Thanks! Rest up and I can’t wait for your next video.

Also, can you PLEASE find out and tell me what products are used when getting a facial? Is it all Elemis? I can’t find any info anywhere, and I really want to know what the back bar products are before committing! Thank you!
Its so cool seeing how chill your manager is about being on camera and you vlogging at work lol. Hope my manager is like that on my cruise contract 😆
Please remember that Lucy has a very good, and hard earned, reputation with not only her manager and retail employer, but also with Virgin Voyages themselves.
Using her good judgement and discretion is paramount (especially in "post" / editing). As well as grasping the common sense that most people on our planet just don't wish to be "on camera" and broadcast to the world. :)
JustTezFilms, my generic advice to you is: remember that the job you're contracted for is more than just a paycheck, as whatever you do / whatever you post/upload reflects on your management, your coworkers, your friends, etc.
Just do your "job" to start with.
And, then later-on, as others get to know you / get to know your motivations for filming, etc., then just go slow, and always ask up front (never try to record / vlog surreptitiously).
Hopefully Lucy, and others will also chime in with some more specific advice.

Can you give us a cabin tour ? A single cabin must be the best incentive..
Back on the ship! You’re doing makeup, can you get commissions as part of that job? It is so cool they give you individual cabins. Can you here everything in the rooms on each side?

I really liked seeing the “behind the scenes” stuff when you left your cabin. I am a yearly cruiser, so it’s fun to see where the hired help lives. My first thought when you left your cabin was “where is the carpeting?” I haven’t been on Virgin yet, but I do Star Trek cruises and Irish music cruises, so it’s been Royal and Holland. I may find you yet, Virgin sounds like a good line.
I still remember my first day. I got lost so many times I did not know if I was coming or going.
Just got off of valiant lady with Steiner. Just applied as a server position for virgin. Would not go with Steiner again but hopefully another position with virgin! They really are the best company to work for :)

I would worry about not remembering the prices - they have probably changed since you were in that shop. There's also a tendency to start remembering things as you do them - it's just how a lot of people's brains work.

I was a crew Bartender 6 years ago on Royal Carribien (Celebrity). Bad trip, i had spent there only 3.5 days.
Now i am thinking about to go back on oard, cos its amazing life actually, ot like on land. The job is completely defferent. Easy)

Lucy, a question. I have just created an account on Virgin and my wife and I were looking at either flying to Spain this August and taking a repositioning cruise back to Miami or Miami to Barcelona April 2024 and flying back. What would be your recommendation?

Lucy has explained this in the past. (and, think she covers this in her career guides?)
But, in brief....it CAN take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.
And, I think she has said to be patient, but if you don't hear anything for a month be sure to get in touch just to make sure. :)

I can relate to the new ship experience. I'm about to go to a new ship after being on my last one for five years and I'm nervous as hell. I'll be the new kid on the block so I'm going to get the undesirable shifts.
It would've been so much fun, but unfortunately I'm suffering from motion sickness.

I'm currently working here in abroad for 12 years in food and beverage department like starbucks coffee and mcdonalds international, did i have a chance to apply in cruiship in F&B, Cabin crew, or like in make up station? Thanks. God Bless You.

All I know is that when you love someone, I knows that this person is loved by God, and that is why he made us love him for no reason. This is the case with me, because I do not want to know why I love this channel, but it is enough for me that I love everything you do and I will always love it.

Depending on where you are located, you may need to apply via a recruiting agency?
Also, be aware that most cruise lines contract-out those retail shops to other companies, so if you were looking for a position in an on-board retail shop, you'd need to apply to them?
