    A great and well produced video - many thanks. FYI I always glue my propellers on at the end. I've been building kits for over 50 years and I'm pleased that brush painting rather than airbrushing seems to be coming back - you can get really satisfying finishes and paint more character into your models with a brush and I hate masking things off before airbrushing. Happy modelling.

    Just about to attempt my first Airfix model for more than 4 decades! And as it happens it's 1/72 scale Airfix P51D but in RAF colours (I think it's quite an old kit that I've had a while and been meaning to build). Thank you for all the excellent pointers in your video.
    I'm off now to wash the parts in vinegar and washing up liquid solution before I start.

    Where do I purchase the chalks that you use for weathering? I am a great fan of yours. You should be on the T.V. as a presenter. It would be great to have a scale model show on the television & you should be its presenter. The live feed you did the other weekend was great. Where can I view the finished model. Many thanks D.Pryor.

    Wow, an entire kit painted with standard brushes. I've not come across any other builder on YT who does it that way. I like it. Nice job with the kit. Looks great. You've given me hope that I don't have to cough up $400 right away for an airbrush rig.

    • @youknoweverything7643
      @youknoweverything7643 2 года назад

      You don't need airbrush rig at all those testors extreme laquer 2 part system and then order or buy you some 2k clear it's a two part clear and you gotta pop a little ball to mix the hardner into it before you start spraying the can and shake very well and man you will get a gloss glass finish everytime with out wet sanding and polishing the clear. Don't get it confused with the Rust-Oleum and Walmart and hardware store clears that say 2x not same thing at all and will either ruin .odel or just not glossy and will look rough as hell And you won't be happy now the testors two part systems clear is pretty good as long as your last three coats are as wet as you can get it with out runs

      It's a grand little kit indeed. It's one of the few Mustang kits in any scale which has the front of the main spar as the rear face of the main undercarriage bay. The one thing that is a bit strange about it is the lack of a panel line between the elevator horn balances and the surface of the tailplanes, but that''s something that can be taken care of with the tip of a knife blade and a straight edge.

    For me, assembling the two body half's with the cockpit was a real challenge and not 100% done properly. It was Very tricky with glue drying rapidly.
    Disappointed in that on my end, but love the kit, and your build looks fantastic

  • @rurushu8094
    @rurushu8094 8 лет назад +2

    I have a tip for you guys who like to change the configurations on your models from time to time. On parts you like to replace often like missile loadouts, you can glue them on with school glue, it's strong enough to hold it onto the model but weak enough to be broken off easily without anything breaking.

    You're very talented, great work. My only criticism would be that I personally don't like the chalky finish that the unsealed paints leave. I think your models would look much more impressive if you put a layer of gloss varnish, followed by matt varnish over the paint.

    • @rurushu8094
      @rurushu8094 7 лет назад

      Vallejo paint is the best acrylic paint for brush painting, you should consider using it.

    • @tommylakasi3022
      @tommylakasi3022 7 лет назад

      Whenever i use decals, i dont have any special products, i use water, when i apply the decals, they rip a lot, and they dont comform to the texture on the model, could you explain why? Ive done a little experimenting, and tamiya extra thin helps the decal skink into the texture, but it also rips the decal, and makes it wrinkly, why?

    • @rurushu8094
      @rurushu8094 7 лет назад

      Tommy Lakasi
      Try use a soft brush when applying the decals. If this doesn't fix it, try see the date of manufacture for the kit. For example: Tamiya kits have a label on the side that says when it is manufactured. When it says copyright Tamiya 1988, this means that the kit was manufactured in 1988. Regardless of their brand its made before 1999 usually have very fragile decals because of how old they are.

    A few points:
    1. Absolutely amazing build, Owen! You've done an aircraft from a legendary unit justice!
    2. I see you've switched from your usual boxcutter knife to a scalpel. How is the transition working out?
    3. Man, Airfix has really stepped up their model kit game in the last few years. They seem to be putting out some really quality kits these days. I had a couple of not so good experiences with Airfix kits back in the 90s, but judging from some of the ones you've built recently, I may want to give them another look if I can find a retailer in Wisconsin that carries them.

    • @quickkits
      @quickkits  8 лет назад

      I like this scale because a whole model can fit into a 10 minute video. Also larger scales have more fiddly parts so as well as this being harder to see in timelapse it's also annoying for me to film because I can't look at the model very closely without getting my head in the way haha! If you mean larger as in the size of the finished kit, I guess the same still applies in some cases. However I do want to do a battle ship at some point :)

    I have watched a lot of air warfare documentaries and believe I've seen P51s with much of the body shining as if they were chrome-plated.
    Is it possible to make models look like it? The only option I know to make something similar is to use a silver metallic enamel. Unfortunately this looks more like brushed aluminium

      Thank you Simon! There's no reason I prefer Micro Sol and Set, in fact I haven't tried Humbrol's stuff, my micro sol and set just haven't run out yet :) I don't know why some people aren't fond of them - it's all personal preference I guess. And yes metalcote can only be sprayed, so if you're a brush painter Humbrol now sell it in a spray can :) Hope that all helps! Owen

    As a bit of a beginner I am unsure as to the correct way to affix aircraft wheels/oleo legs at the correct angles (for wheels down) as detailed on the instructions. Any advice?

    Where did you get that wide brush? Also when thinning enamel paints how much thinner do you add to the paint?

    Hi Owen, for the pilot what did you use for the brown wash? I always really struggle to bring out facial features on 1:72 pilots but it looks like you've done a good job here so just want to know what you would recommend. Cheers

    Do I need primer before painting? nice build btw😊👍

    • @rafaelmassa6870

      i´ve never painted without primer, mostly because i use paste acrylic paints that are not made for this kind of work, but i think that if you use one of the popular brands it might work without primer.
