Is Too Thin & Light a Good Thing?

- So if I were to ask you what your ideal Windows Laptop would be, I'm sure it won't be a thick and heavy beast. Heck even gamers wish their machines were thin and light for easy carriage, but technology isn't there just yet. Usually most thin laptops just look the part with design tricks, but then there's LG. Their LG Gram lineup has usually gotten the light part right, but not necessarily the thin, up until now.
This is the LG Gram SuperSlim, what the company calls as Unbelievably Thin, Uncompromisingly light, and what I'm gonna call as my favorite product of CES 2023. See with how much I travel, I want a computer that can do most of what I want, but without the heft, and let's just say this machine kind of makes the MacBook Air look bad in at least a couple of things. I wouldn't touch a productivity laptop without a numpad. How are you supposed to work with spreadsheets? It's inclusion is a massive plus in my book.
There's other productivity tasks besides excel lol.

How do you comment so heavily on your opinions of the display and not once mention refresh rate. Even for "spreadsheet" machines, people find that information valuable. If it were a higher refresh rate, that might explain the lower resolution (or at least make up for it to a certain extent). If it's still only 60hz... well, that's just crummy for a machine that price.
Agreed. My guess is that the 60hz refresh rate is to help preserve the battery life. LG's Ultra-light is making some sacrifices. I don't think those sacrifices are helping it gain market share over the M2 Air 13.6, X1 Carbon Gen 11, or HP Dragonfly G4.
Great review. In your opinion, what is the most powerful and thinnest Windows Laptop? There is the XPS 13 Plus laptop. Any recommendations?
What kind of power are you looking for? Content creation sadly not an option right now if you wanna go thin, unless you pick the Galaxy Book Ultra, and even that one is borderline thick
Framework 13. It's like any other relatively thin and small laptop but with upgradeability and repair ability that allows it to last longer.
keep watching on new intel cpu "core ultra" , it's much more power efficiency

I do run some (two) virtual machines for work, I code, and the rest of the stuff, well, youTube, email, slack, and teams, and lots and lots of video conferencing (teams, zoom, google meet). XPS Plus with an AMD U-series or Qualcomm chip would be an immediate buy for me.
I bit dishonest comparison to MBA with "starts at" prising. With the same memory configuration MBA is $100 MORE than said Gram, NOT $300 less.
I bought an LG Gram May 2022 and it has been one of the better Windows laptop I’ve ever had. It’s a joy to travel with and the battery life is amazing. Edit: It’s a great business and personal use laptop. I got a great deal on mine, but I would never pay asking price for this machine…nope!

There's a reason this channel isn't growing the way like his friend's channels are. He too unfair, impractical and reviews are literally the same as last year just "updated" for the year. So despite any company making significant amount of changes nothing will change his opinion because he's just going with the flow or with the narrative he's already created so all changes be darned.

I prefer better cooling system than low weight or thin body. I have one cheap hp and it sounds like a plane when I use... Google maps!
This is a dream everyday laptop. Has more than enough power to get most work done, super light to carry around in a bag. Fast charging. Small power brick. Id take the compromises for this level of thin and light

I don't think so. I have an HP laptop and it doesn't show any message in the screen when I turn on and off Caps Lock.
Eh no.. it’s an LG problem. Trust me, I’ve had enough Windows computers since version 3.1 in 1994 to know 😉
It is subjective, as it is a personal thing. I like the pop-up as many times I have been typing away merrily and accidentally switched on the caps lock, so I have to waste time editing.
Definitely an LG issue. From someone that has used laptops from Dell and Surface Pros, it is not on those brand laptops.
I think this kind of laptop would have been perfect with something like ryzen 7 7840u

How are the speakers on this laptop? Thin laptops often have to make compromises there.
They are meh. I have to left the front of the laptop to allow the sound to travel better. If you’re using this for general work and personal use it’s a great laptop.

I wish that there were more non-Apple laptops with good speakers. Some of the creative oriented laptops have decent speakers, but that's about it for Windows laptops.

Yes, with just an iGPU and an old one like the Iris in this, 1080p should, in theory, be smoother than if it was QHD, as there is less PPI to push.

Ideal would be an X1 Carbon with a 15.6 touch screen (with their iso cell non-glass tech) with a 2-4k screen.
And no, not the extreme.
We need a Carbon with a larger screen.

1:10 You make a valid point about the thinnest and lightness which are important qualities for portability. 2:00 aluminium alloy, if it's way cheaper to produce and it will significantly promote good environmental practices I will support it. 2:00 And what is equally important is that the aluminium alloy should be robust in strength. 3:11 That one handed open test is impressive, it shows that the laptop is light. 4:28 The 15" display size is good enough for the large screen size category. 8:34 It does look slim. 7:50 That $1500 price tag is a lot for an on-the-go laptop. Is it a touchscreen?

I Bought recently a gram laptop from 2022 and immediately return it because it was so bad with thermal (small fans despite having plenty of unused space inside) and it had many bugs that screwed the colour gamma of the screen (just using the lg smart assistant), blue screen all the time etc
1080p should just go away at this day and age. Small phones now have 1440p. I don't want to be looking at pixels.
Remember, Samsung only switched to QHD with their expensive Galaxy Book 2 Pros in 2023, so LG is only a year behind! And LG offers several different LG Grams with higher resolution.
Most laptops producers don't offer QHD web camera because most consumers do not care about it. Most don't even show their faces on Teams/Zoom calls for work. Only team leads or executives show their face at work. Even job interviews people are rarely showing their face on Teams/Zooms meetings. Only personal events with family, friends, and couples show their face on web cameras frequently.
HP offers 1440p (QHD) web cameras as of 2023.

@@andyH_England True, but that doesn't really matter. And that was the reason why I didn't buy a samsung laptop when I needed one a couple of years ago. I'll only ever accept 1080 on a 13" laptop. It's doable there, anything bigger and it looks like crap. I don't like apple, but they've done it better than everyone else when it comes to laptops (except for the zero upgradability).
@MyReviews_karkan My bad. Since you didn't explicitly say display resolution, I assumed a web camera.
Most laptops offer QHD to 4k since 2022. It just destroys battery life on Windows PCs. Therefore, base models use 1080p or 1200p to preserve battery life. QHD or 4k are the upgrade choices.

I‘m really happy with my 13 inch M2 MacBook Air - I only got the base model tho but it’s enough for me, I‘m only doing light office stuff with it. It’s crazy how fast and powerful it is for it’s size and thickness when I‘m carrying it around with me. I’m ready to work on it within seconds after turning it on (macOS is on another level compared to Windows - I also got a Windows 11 laptop), the battery life for it’s size is amazing and the trackpad is perfect and simple. I also love the Magsafe charging. Perfect for me 👍🏼
I have this laptop and I'm fine with the screen resolution. The one issue I have with it is battery life. It's bad, even in battery saver mode. I have to carry a backup battery with me to keep it going, or find a place to plug it in. I have trouble getting even 4 hours of battery life out of it. I have the i7 with 2tb, but I did get a free portable 16" USB-C monitor with it when I bought it so I felt like I got a good deal.
The LG Gram 16 from 2023 or the HP Dragonfly G4 are the best light travel buddies from Windows for most of 2023. Add the late and great Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 11 with the Intel 13th gen U series CPU to the competition.

Thanks for the balanced review. One of Apple's biggest mistakes was pushing too hard for thin and light when the technology wasn't ready, leading to a period of terrible keyboards and thermal throttling. LG may be heading in that direction.

Idk what will be good enough for you if it isn't made by Apple. I love windows(11) and I'm glad Microsoft isn't making anything for you because you just can't be pleased. Stay with Mac IOS it's so annoying hearing you complain about petty things all the time. Yes yes I'm aware that's is channel and his opinion but gosh man doesn't need to be so nagging.
