I used to really enjoy this happy series ! Brenda is excellent in light comedy and Simon shows a slapstick side few would imagine today. The hours of genuine pleasure you give us with these gems is remarkable - thank you so much !
This series is one of my favourite Britcoms. Not so much for the comedy, but for the romance. The two characters are perfectly balanced, each with their weaknesses and strengths. The way they support each other is wonderful. 😃There used to be a playlist of the whole series on another youtube channel, but I see it has disappeared, so I am very hopeful that this channel will very kindly upload all the episodes in the near future. TIA.
Gosh, I’ve always thought of Simon Callow as an older man. Even if I didn’t recognize him by sight, his voice is unmistakable. And a young Brenda Blethyn! Like Simon, I only knew her from her later years. It’s fascinating to see them here in 1984, so young. 🙂
@@Pulchria24 For a woman in her late 30s, I marvel at her stick-thin figure. It wasn’t until a couple of decades later, I guess, that I saw her in something else. Although she wasn’t as slender as she was in this episode, she still had a lean frame-far from "meaty." This was well before she took on the iconic role of Vera.
Blimey ! I’ve never seen so much of Brenda and what an ‘ending’ !
Great stuff.
And how he spoke in syllables and drunk a pint in one go! A genius sitcom I remember on Channel 4 back in 1984 - genius comic pairing ❤

It's wonderful to see "Our Vera" in her early years...
I didn't realize that Brenda Blethyn was Vera. That series was on my "to be watched" list; Now definitely moved up the list.
I thought you meant Liz Dawn!
American here. Just a few minutes in and I already adore Simon Callow. What a treasure!
I saw it years ago and have waited long to enjoy it again. Thanks for posting. Hoping to see further episodes!
We will put the whole series (18 eps) up in the next few weeks
One of the best ever!
Have it all on DVD. Great show very funny. Fun fact Mandy Rice Davies from the Profuma Scandel appears in an episode.😉
Vera looks absolutely gorgeous

She was 38-39 during this series!!!

That last shot of Brenda was all a certain 13 year old needed to ensure tuning in the following week😉🔥
In another one she’s in Stockings & a Basque 👍
I was about the same age. Burned into my memory too.
1984. I was 28. Still had the same effect.
40 years later, having just seen it again, there was a little bit of movement downstairs. 😮
"An oar"
"A what?"
"AN OAR!"
😁
I didn't realise that was Brenda until she spoke.
Vera and Mister Beebe!
Gr8
Not seen this for years i used to enjoy it
A very funny episode of the show. Shame about the video quality.
Brenda Blethyn. Awful now and awful then.
This was a truly awful 'comedy'
Different day and age back then.
@@myoldmateOnly Fools had been around for 3 years before this, not to mention Blackadder and Red Dwarf were also from the 80s.
