  • When it comes to filipino street gangs, Satanas is definitely near the top of that list.
In this video were going to take a dive into the history for Satanas because their history has a lot of confusion surrounding it when it comes to their affiliation with Temple Street.
    Thanks for the art!!

The oldest Filipino street gang is Temple Street. Started in LA in the 1920s. Temple Street was formed by Filipinos and Mexicans. They are still deep af especially in the Philippines.

Historic Filipino Town in Los Angeles was the area for Filipinos for safe haven. that area had safe houses for Filipinos that arrived from the Philippines. Other Filipinos would help them get their US citizenship. I don't know if it were true. but that's what my Lolo told me when I was growing up in that neighborhood.

Salutes from Cerritos! They think we didn't have gangs here but I remember! I grew up in Cerritos around STS (and SZA)... Side story: I moved to Pomona in my 20s. One night, I was cruising on my beach cruiser and was pulled over by two Filipino cops. My ID still said Cerritos. They asked me if I had ever heard of STS. I said, "of course!" They asked, "what do they look like?" I looked at one cop. I looked at the other. I said, "you know what? They look a lot like you guys!" The cops busted up laughing. "You're right!" they said. They got a real kick out of that. They couldn't stop laughing as they let me go and pulled away. As they left, my first thought was, "these mfs used be STS!" Lol. Cheers everyone.

During the 80's I was working at a hotel on Rampart and Wilshire Blvd. which is close to Alvarado that many members of Satanas gang hanged out, and for many years I got exposed not only to Satanas but also to Diablo gang which consisted of the more matured Filipinos, and the more sophisticated L.A. Boys. They hanged out mostly at the Bayanihan restaurant. I took pride when I heard from the Cholos how the Long Beach Satanas were giving them fits. I met William who was then a ranking Satanas and Boypi who was the nomber 2 ranking Diablo. Those were the days my friends.

Now it’s all about making money. They are respected as they always threw down. That nanny stuff is only one side of the the negative stereotype. Now look at the good - as many as there are nanny’s there are nurses and engineers. Filipinos are the fun people that sing and dance and good at boxing and pool. So it’s what you decided to look at. Warped definition of respect. In the 21st century I would say Filipinos (particularly OFWs) garner respect (among civilized people) on account of their work ethic, friendliness and courtesy - and not street cred. OFW across the world are valued and sought after precisely because they generally embody these traits, and do not involve themselves in criminal activity. Of course what is discussed here is a unique setting, and circumstances most likely called for a show of force response. That being said, it's nothing to be celebrated or glorified. Filipinos are amazing people and should be welcomed wherever they are needed without a second though about a propensity towards criminality. I say this as someone who had 4AM sisig with a Davao death squad.

Two of those guys were a pair of brothers who were from El Salvador. They all dressed like cholos & spoke a mixture of English, Spanish & their native language. Slowly they all began to disappear. Super proud of all the work you put in to show how a lot of us really live kuya as well as how far you have come, each new video really shows the progression. From the Bambu DePistola videos in the background to the little known facts about STS with Crooks & Castles (which was a streetwear brand pioneer), and the history between STS and TST, this video is fosurely one of my favorites. Maybe I am a lil bias due to me being a proud Austronesian Pinoy, but this one just hits frfr. I remember as a yungn my grandpa would always warn me specifically about BNG (Anything Goes Gang or Whatever Happens Gang) but also STS. He always warned me about wearing black n gold/yellow bc of BNG. Though he wasn't apart of that life he knew plenty about it especially since gangs like BNG started in the Motherland in the 40's and became huge when my grandfather was a child. He was more in the Fraternities, which if anyone knows about Pinoy Frats, many are ran very similar to gangs (not all though). The perfect example is Alpha Kappa Rho or also known in Gangland as Ahkro Boyz or Ahkro Boyz Crazy (ABC) as well as Akro Pinoy (AKP). I believe the current president Rodrigo Duterte is a member of Alpha Kappa Rho, but I know for sure his son is. This comment dragged on but I would just like to thank you again Kuya Serg for everything you do cuddy. A real one fosurely fr. Stay Safe and happy my g!

From what I heard Satanas and Temple Street were originally Allies. They were two different Gangs but had each others back. Before STS became a Street Gang, they were called 13 P.I. as a Car Club. The name of 13 P.I. represented the 13 Regions of the Philippine Islands. And yes the origins of the STS Gang started in the early 70's. Now from what I heard the real origin of their gang name "SATANAS" was inspired by Black Sabbath's Music. Remember this was the early 70's, way before Hip Hop/Rap Music was even popular; and the Founders of STS were into Hard Rock & Roll Music which was considered to be "The Devils Music" especially back then. Their favorite band was BLACK SABBATH and they were on some Ozzy Osbourne shit. Ozzy would sing about the Devil numerous times in his bands songs which gave the idea for The OG's to call themselves Satanas{Spanish for the word Satan}. I believe one of the founding members was a Mestizo{Half White & Half Filipino} who's real name was Billy West.

The conquest of the Philippines was done by Mexicans but at the time we called ourselves NovoHispanos (Neo Hispanics), the expedition was planned in Mexico by the Viceroy the men were from Mexico as well as the supplies and eventually Mexico City administered the Captaincy General of the Philippines, luxury items from the Philippines could be found in stores in Mexico City, interesting fact Emilio Aguinaldo who obtained independence from Spain , attended the Funerals that were being held in Manila in honor of the king, when asked why he attended the funerals he replied : “He still my king, because under Spain we were always subjects or citizens , but that now under the power of the USA we are just a consumer market for their exports”

Sergio made one little mistake here and I actually caught it. When he mentioned a couple of STS enemies such as 18ST. and Echo Park while showing their pictures. The picture on the left which was in color was obviously 18 Street, you can tell since one of their members was wearing a Football jersey with the number 18 on it. But where Sergio made that one mistake was at 4:30 when he said Echo Park but the picture that popped up on the right side in black & white was NOT Echo Park. The black & white picture on the right was Temple Street. If you look closely at that pic you can see on the wall behind that fence there was a Tag hit up with the letters PLE which happens to be the last three letters of the word "Temple." Obviously you can't see the whole word because of the camera angle.

I am Filipino. The Philippines was conquered and colonist by the Spanish in the 1600s, colony for 400 years. The Philippines was named after King Philip of Spain. Spain lost the Philippines to America after the Spanish American War. Then conquered occupied by Japan during WW2, and reconquered by USA. There is also the Chinese and Muslim influence, who were there before the Spanish. In fact, if the Spanish never arrived, the Philippines would likely be a Muslim country and not Catholic. The Philippines is a "Western" country in the middle of Asia. This is why Filipinos have an identity problem. Are we a Western Country or Asian Country ? Western and Asian societies are different in history, culture, religion, and politics.

Especially now since we live in New Mexico. There's quite a few Filipinos over here but a lot of them seem old fashioned and kinda snooty. Her Mom isn't my biggest fan either, because I'm not a doctor. Lol

I'm from Cebu City, and my family moved here in the U.S about 20 years ago. I think I understand what she is going through. There's actually slight cultural differences within the Filipino community because we have so many islands, languages and tribes.
I live in FL and my family and relatives don't want anything to do with the Filipino communities here. It has something to do with those snooty FIlipinos. Lol

All three of my Titos were Bahala in the PI and regularly had beef with Sigue Sigue Sputnik. Growing up around that was crazy. Now a days I'm just an old dude but you know gangsters never die.

I'm a Fil-Mex from West Covina, My pops used to bang with these guys anyways, most Filipino gangs are really a fusion of Mexican and Filipinos due to intermarriage in the community. Filipinos and Mexicans in California ride together in the barrios.

BNG was getting big in Glendale from 95 to 97 and even had a Hispanic click called Brown Neighborhood Gangsters. But at the same time Temple Street was getting big in Glendale. I would say that BNG was doing big things but then just kind of disappeared. I (heard) the head of Glendale BNG ended up joining TGP and one guy from BNG ended up joining TVR. A lot of the guys from TST in Glendale kind of disbanded too and I (heard) one of them joined Avenues.
