  • The finish on these older panels is prone to rubbing off over time and doesn't hold up well to scratches. This video runs through how to remove and rebuild your climate control panel, so you can individually replace or refinish any specific buttons, clean the screens, and have it looking like new.

Fantastic. I found a pristine one at the wreckers and wanted to do exactly this procedure instead of going into VCDS to reprogram a replacement. I cut up an old credit card in strips to slide under all the tabs to remove the faceplate.. came right off. Great tutorial Thanks.

Not sure why there are so many dislikes. This was a great video that detailed this perfectly. I got a couple buttons from the breakers yard for my climate control panel. Fortunately mine is in better shape than yours with only my + and - buttons starting to wear. Just a tip to anyone with a stock headunit, you can access the climate control panel without completely removing the radio. This is important because if you don't have the original owners manual then you won't have the access code for when you plug in your oem radio again if it goes into safemode. Just pull it out an inch or so and then you have access so you can pull the climate control panel. When doing this I would remove the negative battery terminal as a precaution so there's no chance that you need to do an adaption for when you install the climate control panel again. To keep the longevity of your soft touch plastics, don't use your nails on the buttons and try to keep your hands clean and free sweat and moisturisers. This is what causes them to break down over time.

Appreciate the kind words. I’ve been helped out by so many RUclips videos over the years and wanted to return the favor on something I didn’t find a video for. And I didn’t realize that at the time on the head unit, thanks for adding that here.

Good totorial, but where do you buy new buttons?

I bought a used unit on eBay and selectively swapped out certain buttons with mine to select the highest quality buttons on each. Sharpie’ing the edges also gives a huge difference you couldn’t otherwise do without taking it apart. It isn’t a 100% perfect solution to make it look like new, but it can get you very close without shelling out $1k for a brand new unit

You know you can take the buttons out without removing the whole unit
