    Hope you’re still alive and kicking. I recently found myself the owner of one of these. Same as yours, I believe, with roughly 17,400 miles on it. Very well kept. I’ve never had a motorcycle this nice, so I’m trying to learn more. Your video on it is one of the best I’ve seen. Thanks for bothering to make it. Cheers from what’s left of the USA.

      @@J2onton Glad to hear that! Yeah’s she’s a lot of fun, but more of a workhorse in my case as it’s my daily commute. And sounds like we’re in the same boat somewhat, lol. Seems like some of these folks ought to quit screwing stuff up and go ride a motorcycle.

    These are Great Bikes! - I've owned a red one with ABS from new in 1999 and it has now recorded 94,815 miles. It had the crown wheel bearing replaced at 52,000 miles and regular servicing every 6,000 miles and everything still works great. I have owned two R1200R bikes - the last was a twin cam - and they have now gone. So pleased that I kept this one, I have recently bought a 75th.Anniversary R1100R to keep it company. The ABS system on these bikes is far more robust than the newer type with linked brakes.

    GREAT little Vid on the R1100R.... I found one - a '98 75th Year Anniversary - Black with a Parabellum Wind shield and screen. The turn signals are re-mounted on the windscreen. Bought it with 22,000 miles on it 5 years ago in Maui.... Put new Michelin wet weather tires on it, brought it back to Maryland and it just turned 39,000 miles - 17,000 miles on those shoes now.... Oldest BMW I've owned (5th one now) but my FAVORITE - small enough to go for "milk and eggs" and big enough to go to Key West...

      Sorry not replied sooner. Have lost the sound on my computer after activating Fresh Start. Unable to reinstall the required missing component so haven't used RUclips for a couple of weeks. Pleased to hear you like your R1100R. Thanks for your kind comments.

    Hi J2onton and other R1100R owners. I recently added some Heed Crash Bars to my 1999 R1100R and while it did add about 16lbs or 7Kg they have completely dampened the seat vibration from engine vibration at speeds north of 70MPH or approximately 120KPH and at just north of 4000 RPM. The bike is so smooth now at those higher speeds, which is nice here in the states because I like to set the throttle lock at 70MPH and ride for several hundred miles. I got them on eBay for about $200 USD and I'm in no way affiliated with the company. I'm just really thrilled about this modification. They are also going to allow me to attach some LED driving lights and I've already added highway pegs so I can straighten my legs out on my long rides for a bit. Just thought I would share.

      Thanks Joe for leaving a comment about the R1100. A very good ride with bags of torque and interesting looks. For the last week I have owned a 2012 Kawasaki Versys 1000. Another good and interesting bike.

    I bought my R1100R 6 years ago and put about 57000 km more on the clock since then. Still very happy with it and no intention of selling it. The video is nice to watch. Although it didn't tell me much news, it's just nice to see a fellow owner enjoying his bike too. And nice camera views as well.

      I liked mine. Pleased to hear you enjoy yours. Since I made the video, I sold the R1100 and bought a Honda Varadero 1000, which I kept for 3 years, then tried an FJR1300 for 2 years before buying a Versys 1000, 18 months ago. Cheers and good riding.

      @@J2onton What did you think of the Varadero (thinking about getting one)

    • @J2onton
      @J2onton  3 года назад

      Thanks for the post. I bought my Varadero because it was a Honda. I liked the look of the bike and I liked its performance. By that I mean its low rpm power. Its a big high bike so you need to have a longish leg. The seating position is very comfortable, but is let down by the seat. Many owners fit an after market comfort seat. Being a V twin it is said to be thirsty, but I know that I averaged 40 mpg. They were not big sellers in the UK. Probably because they were too far ahead of their time in concept. Whilst I now ride a Versys 1000, I very nearly bought another, Varadero instead. If you can find a nice one at the right money, I do not think you would be disappointed if you bought one. In conclusion, they are a very good underrated motorcycle.

      I have a 2002 R1150R;14,500 mi. And I say," Keep It!!" When you look at NADA and Kelley Blue Book values for our bikes; You'd be giving away a "Jewel" of a bike; I mean it!! Keep riding it; Do the maintenance when required, and enjoy it!!

    Thank you J2onton , fantastic film work and I learn't a lot listening to your review. I am considering a second hand low mileage dealer BMW R1100R YEAR 2011, and about 23000 miles.It is supposed to be DIY friendly so that appeals but, that's for later.Any gear changing tips for smoothness? Every thing I see written implies the box is clunky and therefore, who knows if premature wear may occur !

    • @J2onton
      @J2onton  8 лет назад +2

      Thanks for your comment. A 2011 machine with only 23,000 on the clock should be a good. Stands to reason being young in years with low miles. To make changing gear more smooth I used to pre-load the gear shifter with my foot before pulling in the clutch to make the change. Makes for a creamier experience. Only need to do this when changing from 1st to 2nd and then 2nd to 3rd. To 4th and 5th are creamy enough.

    Hey have you ever reset the ABS fault on your R1100R. I see other videos on it and it looks easy but I'm curious if you've done it and where you connected a ground wire. I think in the UK you use the term Earthed instead of grounded. I'd be curious. Thank you

    • @J2onton
      @J2onton  3 года назад

      Hi James, thanks for the comment. I ran the R1100R for a couple of years and changed it for a Honda Varadero. Didn't have any problems with the ABS, so sorry I can't help you. Yes, Ground = Earth. By way of update I changed the Varadero for an FJR 1300. I now ride a Kawasaki Versys 1000. Cheers.
