"We got famous people on the Brotherhood" Yes. Like John and Hank Green
'Xactly
"We may not be famous"
How little they knew in 2007...
Hank Green can't guarantee he'll be able to write songs...
Oh how the times have changed.
Dear person I have never spoken to before. We have probably crossed paths in the book section of a store in the lovely town we live in, yes I live in Helena also. I has made me feel wonderful to know that there is a fellow nerdfighter in Helena.
Wow, im 14, a nerdfighter for about 2 years, and right now I'm watching this while, not wondering why people would do any thing other than sex (though i am not disapproving of what he said), but actually writing a story that i hoped to get published in my life, and this just made my day and gave me hope :3
Rewatching old videos and I see Neil Gaiman??? I didn’t even know who he was when I first seen this but now after Good Omens blew up? Oh what an amazing coincidence
I just met Neil Gaiman on Wednesday, and he couldn't have been nicer. Gave me a hug, signed three books and recorded my new voicemail greeting. If I'd remembered that he was a Nerdfighter, I would've told him I was too. lol Oh well, I probably took up enough of his time. Seriously, though, if anyone ever gets the chance to go out and see him, do it; it's so magical.
This is the first Vlogbrothers video I ever saw. Good times, good times.
And as I'm telling everyone within earshot (electronical or not) of me NEIL GAIMAN IS COMING TO MY HOMETOWN IN TWENTY-DAYS AND I AM VERY VERY EXCITED.
Neil Gaiman on Vlobrothers, life is now complete
This was recorded on my 12th birthday! Now I'm a college-student nerdfighter currently watching on 10/18/2016! Thanks for all the laughs so far!
This was also recorded on MY 12th birthday, haha
It was recorded on my 2nd birthday 😂😂😂😂
Every once in a while I come back to this video, just to listen to this song. I feel this is one of the most underappreciated Hank songs. I absolutely love it.
the Helena Montana song still plays in my brain sometimes
Wow! My favorite song so far!
Neil Gaiman is soooo awesome! My favorite book is Good Omens! It's amazing!
I am watching all of their videos... again.
This video will always be special to me, because it was the first Brotherhood 2.0 that I saw. I came here from Neil Gaiman's blog in May 2007. How time flies.
OMG!!!! NEIL GAIMAN!!!!! *melts into a puddle of awesome*
Great. Author!!!! Like, WHOA! Possibly on par with John ^_^.
And yes, the "Helena, Montana" song is nearly as catchy as the "Helen Hunt" song. However, it's still stuck in my head.
Keep up the AWESOME!!!
Y'all!! This is it, this is the first Vlogbrothers video I ever saw! It was 2009 and I was in my high school's library looking up Neil Gaiman interviews, and I found this one. I am so genuinely glad. Bless us all.
Also: Ime Gaiman's Law does absolutely hold true for anything you publish on the internet, too, especially fanfiction that's important to you; except that at least online you have the option of immediate editing rather than Immediate Demise Through Falling Meteorite.
(I am on my pilgrimage, and it's 10:41pm, August 2nd 2018.)
Neil Gaiman is my absolute favorite author... I've read all of his novels, (ockay well I also love dumas) and I almost fell out of my chair when I saw this.
Thanks for getting the Helena Montana song stuck in my head.
I love Neil Gaimen and to see him on your blog is just AWESOME
Neil Gaiman lived in my town for 15ish years. His daughter goes to the same school as me. So. Awesome.
My stomach did this funny little twirl thing when Neil spoke. Especially since he was wearing his signature leather jacket. God, and his HAIR... *squeal*
I am enormously jealous that you met him long enough to actually talk to him and record him saying that. 'Grats. :)
Okay, there are not too many things cooler than Brotherhood 2.0, but B2 + Neil? Top shelf.
I cannot wait to meet you guys!!!!
So I was wondering why I recognised the name Neil Gaiman, and then I realised it was because when I started writing my "diary" for school in which I can do whatever I want so long as it's not blank at the end of the year.
And I decided to fill mine with awesome quotes! The first one, that inspired me to find these awesome quotes, being a Neil Gaiman quote!
That's kinda awesome to me :) Because quotes make me think of stuff that is awesome.
So, in a way, he inspired me to be awesome :)
omg! you guys know all my favorite writers!
Such an old video, but now I am happy I am 2 degrees of separation between knowing Hank and John. A friend of mine met Neil Gaiman :) and he met Hank!
+Ioana Moldovan that's three degrees...
daydodog oh yes, you are right.
That's stuck in my head now...
awesome song Hank
I would just like to say that it's been three years since I first saw this video, and Helena Montana is STILL stuck in my head. Like, I will be walking around on a beautiful day, and just start humming it for no reason. Hank, I think you did your job a little too well on that one.
YOU MET NEIL GAIMAN? I LOVE HIM! I like the doctor who episode he wrote, also Coraline and the Graveyard Book
My Must Read Book List is getting really long, I keep discovering amazing authors as I watch these
wow... that was an awesome song
Only 900 more videos to go... this is going to take FOREVER!!!
"we may not be famous"... lol young and naive hank.
This is what it felt like to queue up to meet Hank last weekend!
I can't get the song out of my head!
it's in my head...
...and just seven-ish years later they were all onstage, in carnegie hall, with the mountain goats.
Hank you better perform this at your gig, it is the best nerdfighting song ever.
I think "Helena, Montana" is definitely one of my favorite Hank songs
If anyone after this point in time brings up Helena, Montana. There will be a 99% chance that short snip-it of music will escape my lips.
My fav original Hank song
A welcome relief from having All Star stuck in my head for literal weeks because of these guys.
Finally on to May. Lets try and get to June and then I will try and socialise with my family.
I LOVE NEIL GAIMAN!!!
Helena Montana is so catchy that I can´t get it out of my head. It would make a great theme song for a tv show.
Vlogbrothers watching history log: July 17th, 2020 (the 86th Brotherhood 2.0 video)
I just finished watching the Brotherhood 2.0 video that coincided with May 1st, 2007. Here are some things I noticed in this video:
1. Having Hank congratulate John for book nominations and awards never gets old.
2. Said starting at 1:44--oh my goodness. That's a little young to be doing that. But it's still funny.
3. Said starting at 2:06--and look where Hank's songs are today.
4. Hank's song in this video was funny as heck.
5. Said at 3:20--and here we are today. Yep, Hank and John are totally not famous...
On to May 2nd!
That was a great day! My best friend and I were there. I'm even in the shot of the long line. Nifty keen!
And now to interrupt this intellectual debate by stating the following:
That was the greatest song I've ever heard.
Ever.
you write great songs
I'm moving to Helena in five months xD remembered this silly song
I saw last night in my dreams that I sang this song with someone :D I so like this song, it is hard to get it out of my head but there is no wish to get it out neither :)
I want to hug you for remembering to include Good Omens.
Now you have to come to come to billings MT, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELENA MONTANAAAAA
i dont know about john but that song will be stuck in my head.
Little did Hank know that 5 years later he would have Neil Gaiman on stage with him and John Carnegie Hall
The Graveyard Book, Anansi Boys, American Gods... the only ones I've read. But he's very good.
Oh yes, the Helena, Montana song will definitely be in my head for a while to come. But it can't hold a candle to Helen Hunt.
Few things can. ;-)
Dear Hank and John
I found it a bit hard to hear what Neil was saying at the start of his speech. Then it occurred to me: if I'm having some trouble interpreting this, just IMAGINE what the automatic captions will do!
They did not disappoint.
Neil Gaiman's speech, according to RUclips automatic captions:
"We won't know... lee... beloved ruthie... utilities develops... whenever they did... accordingly paralysis... amongst government health...dot"
Words to live by.
Hello from the future where Hank Green is now a famous author and John is on his 2nd movie adaption of his books.
This video has just confirmed that Neil Gaiman is one of the top ten most epic people on the planet.
THIS SONG IS AWESOME TOO
He wrote the graveyard book which I loved when I was little
Well, if you're going to read his books, (which you should, he's fantatsic) then I reccomend starting with Stardust. It's my second favourite book of his, but it isn't as long and rambley as American Gods, which is my favourite. So, start with Stardust, then move on to American Gods, because Stardust is an easier read, and less likeley to alienate not already commited fans. Then read American Gods, persevere, and then fall in love as I did.
Watching as many of this vids I can today
B2 + Neil + loads of other cool people + Yeti sighting all at Carnegie hall
i would just like to say that "Helena, Montana" has been stuck in my head for a bit now
Gaiman's law, so true... I put together and typed up my school's literary magazine, and the day it came to print my creative writing teacher says "This girl's name is spelled wrong." *HEAD DESK*
Being that my name is Helena, the title of this blog makes me giggle just a little bit...
Made it to May!
Six years later- Hank And John Play Carnegie Hall with Neil Gaiman.
Young Neil (Gaiman)!
Fragile Things (a collection of his short stories), The Graveyard Book, Coraline, a story in the fairytale collection My Mother She Killed Me My Father He Ate Me and more I am sure
What an awesomely un-kempt fellow that Neil Gaiman is!
ALRIGHT, MADE IT FROM JANUARY TO MAY
GOING TO BED NOW
i think that this is one of my favs. i dont know why, but i really love the song helena montana.
I new his name was familiar!!
Helena, Montana is my favorite Hank song.
The fact that Hank talks about finding the error in your own book 11 years before then putting the quote in AART makes me smile
Neil Gainman Increases the value of world awesomeness by ALOT!
I'm going to Helena Montana in a few weeks...
gaimen...word's cannot describe...
Neil Gaiman wrote my favorite episode of Doctor Who.
As most of the comments say, I just have a lot of feels about Neil Gaiman and the Vlogbrothers.
I was there...I'm still amazed I didn't have a near-stroke from having him acknowledge me for a question.
HELENA MONTANA
p4A 2015.
Been sooooooooooo long since I was all the way back here.
What. I can't believe this happened.
Nice, done with April, starting on May. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
this was the year and day i was born
happy birthday and your 13
1:44 till 1:52 is my favorite quote of all time and I love it and I think if I write a book im going to have a quote page and this is going on it. and if not my book will have a website and this quote will go on it.
And then Carnegie Hall a few years later
Actually he's not a geek. He's a nerd. And to be even more specific, he's a Nerdfighter. And to elaborate on who he is, he is Hank. Hank is a giant ball of mass that absorbs all the suck out of the world, and at the same time, entertains and helps it with his very similar counter part, John. Hope this explanation helps. NERDFIGHTERS!
OH MY GOD, NEIL GAIMAN!
I quite liked the Helena Montana song!
When John opened up The Fault in Our Stars for the first time, didn't he find a typo in the author's note? Hmmmm....
His father was part of the Church and so was Neil, but I believe that he isn't active in the Church presently. And also, he's Jewish. And I believe that he's observing Passover. Read some of his recent Tweets.
