Loved that she looked like a mythologycal angel
mythological your mother, is the most biblical canon that exists
She is actually the closest someone has tried making a biblical angel. With four wings that have eyes all over her. It's super interesting.
@@aleafazio6431 well the closest someone has come in stop motion anyway
@@austinmorrison6953 true ❤️
Way too few heads.
She looks like a seraphim, the burning ones, angels that are closest to god. I loved the way they played with the fact the fairy is blue, nobody knows what color seraphim burns, but blue fire is considered hottest. when the two wings covering her face, the other two covering her feet and the two wings in the middle used to fly, they were described that way.
😮
Yeah somewhat
Also the detail that her body it's serpentine, since the word seraph it's also a way of saying "serpent" in hebrew
Yes! I turned to my family and said how cool it was that they were portrayed as seraphim, and accurately as described in Revelations!
This version of Blue Fairy gave me “be not afraid” vibes

The blue fairy is less of a magical lady here and more like a deity from the woods.
She was probably sent by the Valar to help the free peoples
@@TheLazyFusspot_3428 probably to aid us against the dark whale Monstro
her design is based on an angel description from the bible.
Shes addressed as Wood Sprite in credits.
@@victoravila299 i am aware of that. but if you know the description of angels in the bible. they have wings who posses eyes. her design is clearly to reflect angel sense the blue fairy is supposed to be a metaphor for god in Pinnochio. Gephetto wishing upon a stair is a metaphor of him prying to god.
this is also mirrored in this movie of Gephetto prying to god to bring carlo back. the movie used Jesus status as another analogy to Gephetto beliefs. Gephetto in his despair had a crysis of belief untill he made a doll which came to life. Gephetto fixed the status because his belief in god was fixed.
I always love how creative people can get with fae folk. Like here the Blue Fairy looks like a mix between a forest spirit and some kinda of arch angel from the four wings
Edit: that angel comparison may be more apt than I thought cause I just noticed all the eyes on her wings that blink
Its literally an angel as described in the Bible. The wings with eyes on them.
Jenova + Sephiroth fusion basically
It's more akin to that of a seraphim
that is the real presentation of an angel, people describe these beings like this
0:36 I honestly thought that this was showing Sebastian being bonded to Pinocchio, giving him a psychic link or something. It was just a fun slapstick moment but it could have been cool because it would've made the conscience thing more literal.
Thought something similar too! it's too bad Sebastian didn't get a larger role beyond 80% comedy slapstick and 20% being the one explaining the personal things to Pinocchio, but I'd say he's still wonderful at being a comedy relief to balance with Geppetto.
Same!!!! I thought maybe it made him a bit more resistant to damage, since we see him getting smashed multiple time which should have lead to his death but surprisingly not. Other than that, he ended up being more of a conscience for Geppetto, which is a nice subversion
@@cupley8242 Apparently the cricket had a very small role in the movie until they cast Ewan in the role and del Toro loved him so much they vastly added onto his role. That probably impacted him not being an integral part of how the plot works and more just being along for the ride.
Iv heard in the original the poor cricket is meant to be killed by Pinoccio, I cannot remember what video it was from but they explained that in the original that was meant to happen, Im guessing thats why he was mainly getting trampled on and all, as a joke and reference to maybe that
This blue fairy vs the Disney one from the last movie makes more sense to me. Fairy shouldn’t be limited to being black or white. I think a magical creature makes more sense. I’m glad Del Toro went with this kind of a fairy. Smart man.
Yes but also Disney's blue fairy was quite literally, Blue 🤣

I really love how Guillermo del Toro's design his monster and character design. Master piece!
You don't see many biblically accurately Angel's in any form of media outside of the bible. So the fact they did here, I'm impressed.
i love that she takes a second to think of a name
"Be not afraid"
"I just shat my pants, sir... or ma'am... or what manner of creature you are..."
Leave it to Del.Toro to create a character so terrifyingly beautiful. I can't even describe how I love this.
That one universe where Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Ancient One met and interacted with each other.
And Argus Filch had to deal with a child possessed by sorcery. Further proof I'm watching a Harry Potter movie.
I like that the spirit is a Seraphim, who wouldn’t ever actually interact with humanity, so either she rebelled against God’s will to help the old man’s heart, or God decided to send the best of the best for some reason
She doesn’t interact with any human.

If I have money I’d 1000% pay for a puppet like that in my living room, with light up eye balls & all. She’s gorgeous!!!
Tilda Swinton sounds amazing in this movie.
I love that scene ! 💖
Guillermo del Toro deserves praise for making the most accurate visual depiction of a Seraph. But while he may not get that, he certainly has my gratitude, Guillermo del Toro got every detail right and it makes my Theology memorised Brain so so so so so Happy.
-Wings covering the Face and lower bottom
-The Right amount, correct placement and overall design of the many extra Eyes
-An otherworldly appearance
And bonus points for managing to do all this while still creating a beautiful and wonder inspiring creature that retains the kind and nurturing guardian like qualities we associate with Angels.
Hats off to you del toro
That’s not a fairy dude lol. That’s a biblical angel.
This easily could have been a horror movie.
When I first saw her, it immediately reminded me of a Seraphim.
She reminds me of a biblically accurate angel
@@hungrywarnergaming5263 the seraphim are the highest order of angels.
Biblical representation of an angel according to Ezekiel.
Isaiah. The creatures in Ezekiel are Cherubim and Ophanim. This creature is clearly modeled after the Seraphim of Isaiah 6. The Blue Fairy's sister, later in the film, is modeled after a cherubim/lammasu.
I like how she's has lots of eyes like how angels are described.in the bible
Reminds me alot of death from hellboy 2 , that dark fantasy guillermo creates is really beautiful
Love this design more then what Disney gave us this year.
Creativity at his finest can inspire, while Disney just breeds sterility and spite.
Just notice that. Not white nor black lmao.
A fallen seraphim, out of pride doesn't cover it's face anymore, and shines fake blue light.
Seraph, Seraphim is plural and it’s not in the presence of God, so it has no reason to cover its face out of respect.
I mean, the tale of Pinocchio is from Italy, so having the “fairy” look like a Seraph, the highest rank of angel, is apt for a nation that has been Christian since its inception after the collapse of the pan-Roman identity and Western Empire.
The “Fairy” term was, however, used in the original 1889 book, though the making of angel/demons into fairies/witches (good or bad) I think is common with Anglos/Germans/Scandinavians. This switch adapts stories for their culturally Protestant tastes, where public expressions of faith were usually seen as awkward or frowned upon due to their being so many denominations. It’s a similar phenomenon in the Italian “La Cenerentolla” and the English “Cinderella” operas.
Supposedly the Blue Fairy in the book was inspired by the Virgin Mary since kids used to mistake her blue veil as her hair
0:08 Those things on the wings look like they're blinking. Cool. 0:25 Nevermind. They are blinking.

When I first saw this it reminded me of the Mysterious Stranger from The Adventure of Mark Twain.

The Angel of Death in Hellman series husband/wife is Blue Fairy.

People might find her scary, but I think she's prettier than the one in Disney's live action remake.
She’s a wood sprite.
Just like the angel of death in hellboy the golden army.
I wonder why are these two similar to a seraphim.

He has a definite style. You can almost always recognize his work.
Hello, Death of Hellboy! New desine?
I love this movieeee soooooooo muchhhhhhhhhh :(((
By far the best design of fairy unlike certain woke fairy
I'm honestly surprised by HOW similar this is to the Disney movie. There's obviously differences, like the time period and setup, but the story beats feel very reminiscent of the Animated one. Geppetto makes Pinocchio, Blue Fairy shows up while Geppetto is asleep and makes Pinocchio alive, and makes the Cricket his conscience. Then he becomes a performer, and dies after saving Geppetto's life from the giant fish, and is brought back to life. It's not a BAD choice, I just thought with their whole "It's a story you think you know, but you don't" slogan for the marketing, I thought it was going to be more akin to the original story, because the Disney one is the story EVERYONE knows, while the original story by Carlo Collodi is more obscure by comparison.
They're both "similar" because they're both an interpretation of the same source material "The Adventures of Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi, published 1883. Disney didn't create Pinocchio. The classic 1940 animated feature was a breakthrough in animation, and is beautiful, that's why it's iconic and popular. But just like Guillermo del Toro's version, Disney put their own twist and unique elements to the story. However, their latest remake, which they injected with all sorts of messaging nonsense, is far inferior than this one. It's unwatchable. Del Toro's stop motion film is honest and entertaining. It tackles profound topics like death, metamorphosis and being true to oneself, without being preachy or in-your-face.
Shhh nobody tell him there was a blue fairy in the original story
@@WelshGiraffa i dont think he's implying the Blue Fairy is absent in the book, just that she's unrelated to Pinocchio coming to life like how the Disney movie popularized it. In the book Pinocchio is just kinda always alive and spoke when he was just a piece of wood with no explanation. its very surreal and metaphorical.
"the seraphim bestowed upon him terrible power and speed, and with his might he crushed the obsidian pillars of the Blood Temple" 😳

Which one is better? Disney's Blue Fairy or Guillermo del Toro's Blue Fairy?
Disney's Blue Fairy was too generic and cliche. This blue fairy actually looks like a spirit of the woods, an almighty powerful deity that does neither good nor evil.

@@MiloSatori correct answer lol
She should have turn him into a real boy at the end of the movie.
@Iwanodón45 _ Collections but unlike the other versions Gepeto had his own son who died at a young age and it just seemed and look so sad that Pinocchio did not turn into a real boy to help fill in the void that Gepeto had in his heart and would be happier if Pinocchio died with his loved ones after living a long happy life and starting a family of his own and telling his kids and grandkids his amazing epic story and Sébastien could have wish him to be a real boy.
@@chrismaccool9097 He already is a real boy, that's the whole thing about the movie. You don't have to be "normal" like the others, in the end the Blue Fairy teaches the lesson of accepting yourself in your unique way, and ignoring standards of normality.
@@AlehGea true I see your point but what Sébastien J Cricket said at the end he will die eventually that sounded like a wast if life and not just made the movie more sad but totally killed my childhood.

I’m sorry but I don’t like this design AT ALL. She doesn’t look like a fairy, but some sorta angel which is good but the character is clearly a fairy, not an angel. In the book she appears at first as the ghost of a little girl and Then when she re appears she is a grown Woman, Del Toro should have gone that way.
It's not "clearly" a Fairy, actually, the word "Fairy" is not even once quoted in the movie. In her words she's a "Guardian of the Little Things", and she also points to the fact she has different names in different worlds. If you want the book's story, then go read the book.
È una reinterpretazione, personalmente sono rimasta abbastanza colpita dalla scelta, trovo questo design molto bello, anche se non è una fata (che poi nel film la parola fata non viene mai menzionata).
