First time I ever watched tennis on TV was behind "the Iron Curtain" in Poland in early 70ties. This was a match when Jimmy played with Mark Cox. I can't remember what this tournament was, and at that time I didn't understand even the rules of the game but I instantly "fell in love" with this American guy, and I dreammed about the shiny steel rocket he had. Than my Dad bought me cheap wooden rocket and I played tennis every day. The whole Poland loved Wojtek Fibak at that time, but for me Jimmy Connors was always the best.
The famous boxing trainer Angelo Dundee once said that he could have made Jimmy Connors the middle-weight champion if Connors had taken up boxing.....Dundee loved the gusto and passion Connors had!

I’m old enough to remember Conners v Nastase early 70s, Nastase was screaming out every point he won, then Conners won a point, dropped his racket and started finger shooting towards Nastase, I said back then he was going to be special, and he never disappointed.
What would he have won if it had not been for McEnroe and Borg should have had another couple of Wimbledon titles to his name especially that final against Borg in 77
Wimbledon '77 is one he shouldn't have let slip away. He had the momentum against Borg in the final set. He just needed 7 more points. But then the match changed again. Again in '81, he had Borg down in the semis after two fantastic sets. But it wasn't to be.
