Back in the early 70’s kept reading little snippets in my hometown paper about some guy named Jimmy Connors from Belleville Illinois winning tennis matches. Had never heard of him, wasn’t a tennis fan. Then by the time he started making it to network matches I couldn’t stop watching him. His grit, determination and never give up attitude turned me into a fan for life. Not saying he was the greatest, ( one of the greatest) just the hardest working athlete I had ever seen at the time, and put tennis on the global map of sports entertainment. As a Connors fan for life, thanks for what you did in bringing this sport to millions of people around the world, your talent and skills are sorely missed in todays world of tennis. You were the man!
