  • When last we left off with Nora Helmer in Henrik Ibsen's landmark 1879 drama, "A Doll's House," she had had an awakening - and exited her marriage and family with the slam of a door. Now she's back, in the Tony-nominated "A Doll's House, Part 2." Mo Rocca talks with playwright Lucas Hnath and the cast (including Laurie Metcalf, Chris Cooper and Jayne Houdyshell) about this continuation of the story of a woman awakened, and the mess she left behind in her journey toward self-discovery.

    Everything about this is amazing.
    1) One of my favorite plays of all time
    2) Laurie Metcalf, one of my favorite comedic actresses
    3) And if that wasn't enough, Mo Effing Rocca.

    Classics don't require sequels.

Yet it's always exciting to see the impact a classic has on modern artists.

They don’t but I think that this re-opens the conversation the original started and it brings recognition for younger generations to the original and the remaining relevance. It’s a tribute!

That’s exciting! Although I think Laurie Metcalf was channeling Jackie for a bit there! Probably why she was cast as Annie Wilkes too! ❤️

A Doll's House, Part 2 is a really bad play. I would recommend to read Henrik Ibsen's play before trying to create the response to it.

Of course one has to be familiar with the original to appreciate this original take on it. Why the negative judgement?

the whole point of the play is the open ending, this is utterly dreadful. america has to dumb everything down.

maybe it's not immortal art exactly but it is very fun to see a writer throw down with another writer across time. the play is very enjoyable and engaging in its way. i don't see it as a replacement to the ibsen but more offering a counterpoint to accompany it.
