  • This is one of the nicest top to bottom specs for a bike in this price range. There's no junky cranks, the brakes are good, suspension is awesome and so is the drivetrain. Watch this video to see the details of this top value high-end full suspension carbon trail mountain bike.
    Put this on your shopping list if you're interested in bikes like the Ibis Ripmo, Yeti SB130, Specialized Stump Jumper, Santa Cruz Bronson or Hightower... unless you really want to spend more than you have to.
    This full-composite frame is engineered for 135mm of rear travel and 150mm up front. The Maestro rear suspension has a two-stage adjustable Advanced Forged Composite rocker arm with a trunnion-mount shock. A flip chip lets you choose either low or high frame geometry settings, which adjusts the headtube and seattube angle, along with the bottom bracket drop, to fine tune handling for your riding style and terrain.

    Loving those videos, super detailed. I was getting frustrated with Giant precisely because the previous Trance X Advanced Pro 2 would come with carbon wheels, but with NX drive train. The next step up was super expensive LiveValve. This is the first reasonably priced turnkey model I see in this line.

    I have the Al Trance X 2 in large (I'm 6'2") and found it to be absolutely excellent, both as a bike and size-wise. I'd come from an XL 170mm enduro bike that just felt all kinds of long and squishy and kept spitting me off. After 11 months on the Al version I've ordered this bike in a large (on sale in Australia for a crazy low price, like WTF?) and can't wait to get on it.
    I used to test ride bikes for a magazine and can honestly say that this bike is not only incredible for the price, it would still be incredible for more money. Its efficiency on climbs is blinding, it descends like a weapon and it loves the flow and pop of trails too. It is probably my favourite mtb of all time. Lots of bikes that cost 50% more have felt 'meh' in comparison. The cost, build quality, parts list and ride characteristics of this range of Trance X bikes is just incredible. And they look really nice in the flesh too.
    The true 'does everything very well' mtb. :)

    I got this bike at the end of last summer after waiting 6 months for it. This summer was really some of my first time and rides with the bike quickly fell in love. But there has been issues since then That cannot be ignored. My Trance x frame cracked after only 25ish rides. the rear triangle gave out right behind the the front sprocket on the chain stay with cracks also on the rear brake by the through bolt. The frame gave out after having no crashes and on a perfect landing off a small 2 foot drop in Cuyuna MN. since then giant has been really nice and I am getting a new warranty frame but the fact that the first frame even gave out is slightly unsettling.

      @BikeBrosBikeShop  10 месяцев назад

      Wow! Very interesting! I hadn't heard of any of these breaking: that seems like a very legitimate case of warranty and I'm glad to hear (not surprised either) that Giant is looking after you well.

    I have the exact same bike in large for my 181 cm height, and I'm falling in love with it more and more deeply. I was afraid that it would come a little too large for me, but this size actually turned out to be perfect. Hope it helps someone out there. As for the rear hub, I'm thinking about the DT Swiss star ratchet conversion, but I find contraversial information on whether it is possible at all. Incredibly poppy and playful bike though, can't recommend it enough!

    Great review! How does the overall durability/creaking compare to the new rocky mountain bikes?

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  Год назад

      That hasn't really crossed my mind. Older Rocky Mountain bikes did have some creaking but Giant's Maestro has been really solid for years... so on current models they're similar, with one caveat being that because between Rocky's Ride 9, Ride 4 and Chainstay chips there are more sources for potential creaking that need to be cleaned occasionally (but are easy to clean).

    Interesting, I'm in Australia, I bought this exact bike October 2022, and this is marketed as a 2022 model in Aus. Loving it so far. Mine is also slightly upgraded due to parts shortages e.g. I have full SLX brakes from factory.

      I get the sense that Australia receives their bikes about 6 months before we do in North America (we often go searching Australian manufacturer websites when looking for hints of upcoming changes in North America). Due to this, maybe they end up having some models out of sync for model year? Our 2022 version of this bike had the same appearance but the specifications differed a bit.

    I weight 63kg. Around 24 min you mention that light riders may get much out of the forks. What is the effect of being a lighter rider on the front (and rear suspension). Thanks very much

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  Год назад

      When I mention the suspension being good enough except for very light or very heavy riders it is in reference to it not having separate high and low speed compression/rebound adjustment. The issue for those heavy/light riders is to do with not having a wide enough adjustment range when only having low speed compression/rebound so the fork or shock can feel over damped/too slow rebound for light riders, or under damped/too fast rebound for very heavy riders (once the shock is set to an appropriate pressure). With your weight of 63kg I don't think there would be any issues at all getting suspension to behave appropriately.

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop

      Those exposed carbon bits are a point of pride from the quality builders because they should be showing of that there aren't bubbles or folds or signs of poor workmanship but I hear you that they can look strange especially in certain types of light.

      Giant has 6'2 as the tall end of L and the beginning height for XL. I'm 6'1 and my Trance (not "x" model) is a large, measuring about 1cm shorter than the Large Trance X. For myself, I'd go with the size Large to keep the bike a bit more nimble. If your local riding is steep and fast then the XL might be worth consideration or if you have quite a long torso and arms

      The Trance X3 is a great bike and great value. A few of the costly upgrades on this bike and guesses on the extra cost: Carbon frame +$1000, Fox Fork +$300, Drivetrain and brakes +$400, Carbon wheels +$1000. Do these extra things add twice the performance? No, but once you're above the Deore level, additional expense % doesn't relate to performance gain % or weight loss %...

    How the hell are you meant to ride it?

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  7 месяцев назад

      Pedals are so last year. just shove your big toe in the crank hole - gives more direct power transfer. If you're serious though, almost no bikes over about $1000 come with pedals any more. This started after shops got sick of having amassed literally buckets of the pedals that came stock on better quality bikes because customers so often had personal preferences that differed from the stock options (especially in the days when SPD style pedals were the norm - yet more than 1/2 the customers didn't want to clip in). Even on cheap bikes these days, upgraded pedals with quality bearings, appropriate size for the rider and a colour that excites the customer are the top selling upgrade in our shop.
