  • Many would agree that RBR is one of if not the best rally sim of all time, but to experience it in all its glory in the past meant wading through the thousands of files and tutorials which explained how to configure this legendary title. But now its easier than ever to set up RBR with the highly regarded "Rallysimfans" version released just this past year. This version of RBR incorporates many of the best addons in one easy-to-install package and can take you from installation to racing online in the matter of minutes. RBR is more accessible than ever and its just as great as they all say.
Thanks again to Janne and team for the warm welcome!

I think it is important to add few words about Richard Burns.
Born in 1971, a talented and hugely popular English rally driver in WRC series between 1990 and 2003. Driving for Subaru, Mitsubishi and Peugeot rally teams. Winner of individual WRC championship in 2001 with Subaru, runner up twice in 1999 and 2000, also winner of manufacturers' title twice, in 1998 and 2002 (Mitsubishi and Peugeot).
Richard Burns sadly died on 25th November 2005 at the age of 34.

To add Burns was on the way to pull a real upset championship season in 2003 by leading the championship for majority of the season with 0 wins... could have actually won the championship with 0 wins if the brain cancer wouldn't have had an early affects to his performance as early as Rally Finland of 2003

I truly believe that it's enough to show someone 2 specific Anti Kalholla's videos to make them fans of rallying:
    1) Age of supercar - awesome video starting with first shots of group B machines during testing, through its peak, tragedy of Toivonen and final uplifting note about whole era.
    2) Drive for your life - short, under 5 minute montage of everything romantic, emotional and heart grabbing about rally.
In my case both of these videos have almost 100% success in transforming non-car people into rally fans.

You should try E-Larc. It's an official Lithuanian rally championship that recreates rallies a week before real stuff here in Lithuania with the number of stages, kilometres, services and even real tracks from here. It's also a part of Lithuania's automobile sport federation (LASF) and at the end of the season you get awarded together with real rally drivers. It's super cool, super realistic and the closest you can get to a real rally championship on simracing

Well deserving of the 100k plus views it's had so far. Absolutely brought bang up to date with the Hungarian mod - or the Czech mod deserves a mention too. Here on Brazil, more specifically in Minas state, every weekend there is some sort of rally. I have seen a group of 10 people just taking their off road cars, buying the permission from the land owner, then rally. I went on just to test, see how it was... I never stopped. I've played every rally game. Richard Burns is much more relaxing while Dirt 2.0 is a nightmare attack like the real world as far as I've compared to reality (but when I'm gaming I want to forget that very stress). If you want to game, but not just some silly arcade, but still don't want to suffer too much, RB is pretty good and approved by my humble experience. Graphics are not trying to look good, it is as it is and works nice enough in a limited engine like pro.

Definitely going to be focusing on this one in the near future as it runs very well on my dated laptop and I'm just not mentally prepared enough to get into online competitive circuit racing.
I started sim racing with the Dirt games a couple years ago and now I'm back with a nearly two decade old game and loving it.

I worked with the creator of RBR like a decade ago, nice guy, he really was not happy with the physics, particularly the tarmac tire models.... imagine if he had time to finish it properly, who knows what he's working on now.... anyways, for what it is, RBR will always have a special place in my heart, i ordered it directly from the UK since it was released there first, i had one of the first copies in north america and played the hell out of it. Golden days......

Great video mate. Rally is pretty engrained over here. A lot of gravel roads out in the country, I grew up on gravel roads pretty much. Can't say I didn't slide a few cars off the road in my teens lol. Escorts were pretty popular, also late 70s Toyota DXs were the best! I had a wee Starlet for a while with basically no suspension, cornered CRAZY fast but when it let go you totaly lost it instantly cos it was so short. Deathtrap! Hey I have a good challenge for you to try, check out the Ledgends mod on AC, have a race round a bendy circuit, like Ahvenisto or Riverside, man that is some tricky driving!

One thing great about Rally is you never think you are going fast enough. When other cars are around you can know, but when its just a clock ticking? Also not knowing the turns, by memorization adds to the on edge feeling. All racing is about finding the edge and riding it, Rally just seems to have you teetering the finest part of it...the whole race.

It's interesting. I'd have to say that some events of the World Sportscar Championship in the 1950s and '60s had a lot more in common with rallying. Earlier on, you had the Mille and Carrera. In the '60s, you had several hillclimbs, plus events like Rallye Wiesbaden and the Tour de France for automobiles.
I thin I need to load up Antti Kalhola's Top-30 rally stages video, and then see what I can find off of that list in the various rally sims, at least as far as playthrough videos of those sections.
And going nack again, you had a fair few of those little TCs or GTs that would run in both Sportscar and Rally events regularly decades ago: Alpine A110, Lancia Fulvia, Alfa Romeo Giulia.

Well, of course they don't, because no other motorsport has a co-driver, so they have no knowledge of making pacenotes and then running the stages according to them. Then there's braking - circuit racers have fixed braking points and rally drivers... well, they brake when they feel they have to. And then there's sliding, especially on gravel - a thing that circuit racers are not very used to.
As for 'magic' reflexes and other 'supernatural' driving skills - those are just fairy tales rally fans believe and tell among themselves. In other words - I've seen gravel rally drivers embarrass themselves on circuits. And on contrary - Kimi Raikkonen did pretty good in WRC, also Valtteri Bottas, considering, how little events he did run

@@mantasbabenskas2761 Bottas was driving a WRC car and getting beaten by R5 cars, he never took it really seriously. Räikkonen and Kubica did well in Rally, however they're some of the most naturally talented drivers of all time so it's expected. When Loeb tested in F1 he was competitive as well, so it's impossible to compare.

@@Brenooliveira8989 - likewise, Loeb is a racing genius, like Valentino Rossi. It's not fair to compare him to some Bottas. Which, by the way, still did pretty well, considering he had to do a crash course in pace notes, which requires a ton of experience in rallying.
Just the other day Chase Elliott from NASCAR (which is known for drivers that have no talent, right? [sarcasm] ) beat Tanner Foust in rallycross. On his first try. So good drivers are more familiar with sliding, but the pace notes is the thing that you have to learn your whole life and there's no other way to learn them but experience.

I enjoyed the rally stages so much in Forza horizon 5 that I went back to dirt rally. I used to play with all assists off but I found it just wasn't fun once I got into the faster cars. Just way too temperamental. So now I just turn up all the assists and just enjoy ripping through the wilderness! Still hard as heck but a little more enjoyable. Just a heads up for people looking to check out dirt rally but afraid of difficulty. Also starting with a FWD slow car makes things seem easier than they are, start with the RWD Alpine to get a better idea of difficulty

Hello, if I may give a tip. You said that it is best to drive on new stages and not when they have already been used a lot, but in the real rally world it was a big disadvantage to have to leave first, especially on no asphalt stages. The called that cleaning the road. The best moment is when a car of 4 or 5 had already driven over it. Perhaps a tip to not go all out the first day but see that you could start fourth or fifth on the last day. In a real rally the pilot's stop sometime just the seconds the needed so they are 4 ore 5th on the last stage of the day before the last day. So they can start on a cleaner track the last day. I hope this was helpful...nice to see you rallying...👍

Question on the rally sim fan version, what I still can’t figure out is with the changing NGP from what I see is seems that some cars aren’t available because they use an older version only, while some people only like playing a certain version. So does this version have all cars even with different ngp? Also with this client installer is there any need for different vehicles or tracks or do they have it all covered? For mods period like different dashes or pace notes voices cars and tracks, is it easy to add them to this or can you? Lastly I heard that this mod continues to update on the server with everything to keep it up to date, if something goes down even temporarily with their site can you still access everything and play offline?

My two favorite race sports are rally and F1. This is because I've always viewed them as the purest way for learning car control and you never stop learning even if your a beginner or you last name is Hamilton or Schumacher.
