"Reason To Believe" , "Have I Told You Lately", "The First Cut is the Deepest", "Downtown Train", "You're In My Heart" are all excellent as your next Sir Rod Stewart selection.
That was written for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves the movie. It was a massive hit and lovers anthem for YEARS because of the audience reached by Sting fans, Rod Stewart fans, Bryan Adam fans AND everyone who watched that movie.
I've heard you guys say many times how much you like artists more when you hear their expanded volume of work. I really don't understand why you don't take this concept and apply it to the Bee Gees. There is a whole new experience waiting for you by listening to some of their early work. "Massachusetts".... I Started a Joke, Lonley Days, and a hundred more. Take the Leap
Glad you are getting more into his 80s stuff, which was the same decade I started listening to him in earnest. Other songs from the 80s are "Infatuation", "Baby Jane", "Love Touch", and his cover of "This Old Heart of Mine" (with Ronald Isley of the Isley Brothers). Great choice!
This song was originally recorded by a group called The Persuaders, who had a hit with it back in '73. Robert Palmer also did a cover of it, & after his passing (he died in 2003), Rod Stewart started singing Palmer's arrangement in tribute at concerts. Palmer's cover is worth listening to, but the video is NSFW.
I remember Rachel Hunter saying they lived on the same street and all got together for holidays so that all the kids could be with Rod. It takes work to put your children and family above the hurt that occurs during a divorce. Good for them all.
I just saw Rod in concert last month and HE'S STILL GOT IT at 70+ years old!!! Swag, style, sex appeal, and his voice has matured beautifully with him!!! Great performer and entertainer too!
Actually his breakout hit was the "Reason To Believe"/"Maggie May" single released in May of 1971 and shot right up to #1 on charts. "I'm Losing You" came out 6 months later and was his second hit song and hit #24 on the charts. But yeah, all three were great songs.
@@pttp5509To be honest I had to check myself. I was sure a friend of mine was doing Maggie May in a local band before we heard I'm Losing You, but like you said, it was a awful long time ago so I wanted to make sure my memory wasn't confused (sometimes it is) 😉
I went to a $2 outdoor concert in 1971 and unknown Rod Stewart was the lead singer for the Faces. The only thing that stands out is him singing I’m Losing you and singing the harmony cheek to cheek with Ron Wood. They looked like twins Loved him from that moment on!
I saw him for the first time in concert a few months ago! Wow! What a fantastic show! Absolutely one of my favorites! He’s still got it at 78 years old! 💕
Fun Rod fact: His home in LA... The upper level is a train layout. He would take models of buildings on his tours and work on them in hotels. He has had write ups on his layouts. Rod songs: You're in my Heart, The First Cut is the Deepest, You Wear it Well, I Don't Wanna Talk About It, Tonight I'm Yours, Rhythm of my Heart, Infatuation.... He is a favorite of my older sister... BTW He did at least one Christmas album too
One of my favorite Rod Stewart tunes. Love it. Very 80's. If you're ever looking for a down-tempo song with brilliant, heartfelt lyrics, listen to "I Was Only Joking.' I'd argue that it is his best. Prior to going solo, Rod was lead vocalist for a band called Faces, which also featured Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones) on guitar. Perhaps their best song was 'Stay With Me.' Stewart also recorded the Faces song 'Ooh, La, La' which is among his best. Absolutely fantastic.
I grew up during the 60's,best music ever, we had Motown, beach boys, British bands , folk, hippie rock... 50 years from now they'll still be playing this music
Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck both started out together in a band called The Faces. I Know the song you mentioned. When it got radio air time I was hoping so much for a reunion tour .
Rod Stewart was a pretty versatile legend. You could always recognize him and his unmistakable voice but he always managed to tweak his sound just enough to keep up with the ever changing times in music. He had one hit after another for like 30 years.
agreed! the songbook albums are masterpieces. these foolish things. the very thought of you. that old black magic. his interpretation of all these songs and how they sound in his voice is magical.
"Sailing" (became a title song for the documentary of HMS Ark Royal), "Young Turks" , "Baby Jane" and the more serious "The Killing of Georgie part I & II" are also some of his biggest hits.
I love when he sang "This Old Heart of Mine" with Ron Isley (of the Isley Brothers who originally sang it). They look like they had so much fun in that video and their voices together are just amazing. I think y'all would love that one. I also love "Rhythm of my Heart," "Downtown Train," and "The Motown Song" is a fun one!
The great Rod “The Mod” Stewart. In ducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, twice. Once as a member of Faces & his solo career. Really need to listen to his MTV Unplugged “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You”. He wrote it for his wife at them time. Excellent song.
This is my favorite song of his. It brings back happy memories of hanging out with my best friend going to soccer matches in the 80's. We saw Rod on tour in CA and FL. We met him before the 1988 MTV awards show. We saw him get out of a limo, we were five flights up in the hotel. We saw his blonde hair, I asked my friend, "Does that look like Rod Stewart to you? It does to me!" We ran out our room and ran down those five flights and caught him at the elevator. He was really nice and gave us his autograph. We got his picture too.
Rod Stewart has always been my favorite artist, seeing him concert three times. My favorite song is Lost in you, some of the other hits are my heart can't tell you no,This old heart of mine. Downtown train, and infatuation and baby Jane
I saw Rod Stewart YEARS ago when he did his Tonight's The Night Tour. He wore ALL pink ... shoes, suit and all. He's great. I think the first time I heard him was on a juke box at college when he sang Maggie May!
Killer tune...and who doesn't have moments where these lyrics or thoughts in a similar vein go through the brain? *Infatuation* off the same album is my suggestion, another keeper... Rod Stewart is another 70's artist with a huge legacy and in interviews he impressed me with his intelligence and wit.. Thanks S.W.
Rod has a lot of good songs. "The Killing Of Georgie", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "I Don't Want To Talk About It", "I Was Only Joking", "Sailing", "Handbags And Gladrags" are all good tunes, more on the mellow side but really good.
I have got to say, one of the best concerts I have ever been to was a Rod Stewart concert. I went to see him later in his career when this song, and young Turks came out. He is such an entertainer. And I like his music. Great reaction!
My mother grew up going to American Bandstand live and was always a very snappy dresser and a great dancer. She LOVED Rod Stewart but always laughed at the fact that he flat out cannot dance. :) Watching this reminds me.
I love Rod Stewart!!! Ever since I was a child. This is one of my favorite songs. You got hear his songs Infatuation, My Heart Can't Tell You No, You're In My Heart and Lost In You. You can't go wrong with Rod Stewart, but these songs are some of my all time favorites.
Rod is one of the best selling artist all time, and in the age of 78 he is still sells out concerts. "People get ready", "Infatuation", "Every beat of my heart", "Love touch", "I was only joking" and more... I like his songs from the 70s, but his era of the 80s is the best for me.. I think it's especially thanks to the video clips on MTV. He still looked like young. And his charisma is a big part of his success.
If you love raspy rock and roll voices, I strongly suggest you do the song All for Love. Not only is Rod Stewart in it, so are sting, and Bryan Adams. Makes a triple threat of a rock and roll rasp!
“You’re in My Heart” is one to check out for Rod’s softer side. He is an avid soccer fan and, when I saw him live, he played with a soccer ball in between songs. He’s very entertaining. 🌺✌️
Rod made this song for radio play and money. The thing is, his earlier stuff is his best, but he evolved and kept his career alive. Now he sings the oldies and he does it very well. 😁❤️
My mom had such a crush on Rod! Anytime any of his videos came on MTV I would yell to my mom & she would drop everything & come & watch his videos. This was one of her favorites.🥰
Rod Stewart is just classy! Best hair, great eyes, notice how his clothes just fall perfectly! His voice is strong and sexy, his moves are on point. He’s a lot of fun live!
My bias is young Rod. “I’m Losing You” is outstanding. Killer instrumental break too! Or, when he joined forces with Jeff Beck on the Truth album. “Ain’t Superstitious” will blow your minds. Both his vocals and Beck’s awesome guitar riffs.
"Reason To Believe" , "Have I Told You Lately", "The First Cut is the Deepest", "Downtown Train", "You're In My Heart" are all excellent as your next Sir Rod Stewart selection.
Don’t forget ‘Motown Song’ with the Temptations
Has to be the MTV unplugged version of Reason to believe
Oh I love Downtown Train!!!
INFATUATION ⚽🥇🎊
All excellent suggestions
the 80s have something no other era has...uplifting relatable songs!
Rod Stewart’s version of “The first cut is the deepest” is one of my favorite songs ever. I listen to it on my record player often.
He did it- originally a Cat Stevens song- and much later Sheryl Crow covered it- all good!
"All for Love"! It was written by Bryan Adams and sung by him with Rod Stewart and Sting! Such a massive hit!
Actually written by Bryan Adams, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, and Michael Kamen.
That was an incredible song!
That was written for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves the movie. It was a massive hit and lovers anthem for YEARS because of the audience reached by Sting fans, Rod Stewart fans, Bryan Adam fans AND everyone who watched that movie.
I know you'll hate me for this BUT I find it a mediocre song for each of them (when compared to their catalogues).
“First cut is the deepest” “you’re in my heart” is also a great one
You really can’t go wrong with Rod
“Rhythm of my Heart” is my favourite. It has to be your next reaction by Rod Stewart. It’s an absolute gem you’ll definitely like
Glad you are getting more into his 80s stuff, which was the same decade I started listening to him in earnest. Other songs from the 80s are "Infatuation", "Baby Jane", "Love Touch", and his cover of "This Old Heart of Mine" (with Ronald Isley of the Isley Brothers). Great choice!

@@yusergname Senior '88 here and yes!!

Downtown Train- Rod Stewart. Beautiful heartfelt song which was real popular in America. Love to see you react to that one.
"I don't want to talk about it" , Live at the Royal Albert Hall, with Amy Belle.
Simply amazing
Better still check my you tube at Wembley 86. I was there. Best singing ever! From the Wembley crowd. Never beaten
This song was originally recorded by a group called The Persuaders, who had a hit with it back in '73. Maxi Priest also did a Cover of this great song.
Fun fact----He had many wives, and they all were still good friends through the years!
Great for the kids in his families!
They were all into fashion so his look is so good ❤
He also said “Instead of getting married again, I'm going to find a woman I don't like and just give her a house.”
I remember Rachel Hunter saying they lived on the same street and all got together for holidays so that all the kids could be with Rod. It takes work to put your children and family above the hurt that occurs during a divorce. Good for them all.
Another great 80's song of his to react to that is really catchy and up tempo is "Tonight I'm Yours (Don't Hurt Me)".
and all those girls in the swimming pool.
rod also did a tom petty song called leave virginia alone. and it is perfect.
You wear it well, Baby Jane , are two of my favourites.
Rod Stewart still makes my wife melt. We just saw him in concert last month and she was a giggly school girl again :)

Rod exploded onto the scene in 1971 singing “I’m Losing You”. It’s his best song IMO - really showcases his voice
nice! also i dont wanna discuss it,and good morning little schoolgirl, and an old raincoat won't let you down
