- Retired Army War Veteran Alan and Muzza look at average daily and monthly living costs in Bali.
We visit a local international supermarket in Sanur to show you the REAL cost of Living in Bali
Thanks you 3...always enjoy watching your little Bali adventures. I look forward to meeting Alan the next time we are in Bali!
IT'S NICE TO SEE AL AGAIN,
HE HAS HIS DAILY COST WELL PLANNED OUT & ENJOYING LIFE .
You’re brave Muzza, on the by pass on Al’s scoot.
Looks like a good spot. Close to The Man Shed and the Hidden Garden Bar. 2 of my favourite places in Sanur.
Nice to see a kiwi doing well in Bali. Murray is obviously very proud of his heritage as it's on full display for all to see.
Good on you Al - love how you are settled in there now and loving it!
Away from Kuta, Legian and all along the southern tourist traps it is so much nicer and more cost effective.
No issue getting your pension in from the CBA I’m guessing.
Enjoy and thanks Muzza for the vid - a good one this time! 😜
PS - be great to save that $5 a day and heal your lungs Al!
Loving your videos Muzza. My wife and Iwill be there from 8th to 19th September 24. 🎉
It's a great supermarket Muzza shopped there a couple of times the selection really good 👍
Another great vid Muz. Good on ya Al, enjoying life mate xx
Thanks Murray, that was interesting.
Looks like you’ve settled in really well Al.
You’re an inspiration to others that it can be done and a good retirement can be had. 👏
Ps. Love Curtin radio too.
What I like about Bali is big lush villas, everything done for you, top notch grub out and Gojek for home, and a beer or two at a bar a few times a day . I think this would cost me a bit more 😊
Thanks Muzz I really enjoyed this one . Hi All.
Ill come and live with you. Vicki, Nurse, Australia ❤
Chiang Mai fairly cheap here in Thailand. Lot cheaper than UK. I heard that back home even Warwick Davis is struggling to put food on the table. Joking apart 4 bed 3 bathroom £289 per month rent £100 utilities, scrambled egg in the morning and cottage pie every night with baked beans
Sad
@@spizzenergi2292 very sad 😿😭
Love Sanur ..breakfast on beach front only $6 ..swim in lagoon every day .. a beer at Casablanca in evening ...lots of entertainment ...warm people 😊
I love staying in Sanur.
Golden syrup is just sugar and water, if you can get the brown sugar with molasses, heat in a pan with small splash of water, any sugar will work but brown sugar will get the closest taste to the golden syrup you know. If you can't make it let me know and I will post some to you.
I wish we still had hardware stores like that.
Great tip
Fairly dumb comments here. If you are living in Indonesia and eating western, the prices are going to be high. If you shop at a western supermarket and eat food Indonesians don’t normally eat, the prices will be high because wastage will be high and freight will be higher as demand is lower. Go eat a Nasi Goreng and you will pay $0.50, eat a steak and potatoes and you will pay through the rook. Simple
Not dumb comments, to start with 50cents is 5000 rupiah, nowhere can you get nasi goreng for that price. maybe 20 to 30,000 from cheap warung. Also traditional Indo food is extremely un healthy and full of carbs. So yeh, food is cheap if you want to destroy your health. Diabetes anyone?
Allan looks like the blokes off dads army with his helmet on the back off the bike
Here. Real aussie
The prices are nearly same as Perth.
That's why u only eat local fruit
Spot on bali a rip of
💯% agree 350gm of beef $75 + $21% taxes and services in medium warung in Sanur and Seminyak e.g.
Yes you are very right ! I am in shock 😮 you will have to go to open markets in Denpasar where the locals buy. Our supermarkets in Melbourne are cheaper. $3.50 for a kilo of drumsticks which is nice, But Council Rates, Water Rates, electricity & gas are killing peoples budget
Yeah, and beer is the same price. If I want to sit around doing nothing and drinking beer all day I will stay in Australia.
Seeing how a couple of fellow countrymen live I'll be there winter next year thank you
Great video, the sooner we learn to cook & shop at Local market the better.... tourist zones are not for long stay people...cut down on booze, pack up the smokes...etc...😂😂😂....👍👍
Great video
Hers a good idea if you interview someone, let them talk
So sweet
@bradley1313 here's a better idea, if you think you can do it better start your own channel.sometimes the person you are chatting to goes off on a rant and it is not suitable, a good interview stays on point and keeps the audience informed
@@MurrayWilkinson1 Geez Muzza you don’t take constructive criticism well do you. I have done100s of interviews in my previous profession, short question and long answer is the way to go. The questions shouldn’t be way longer than the answer with a hole lot of other added commentary. Ps I have no desire to do what you do so your safe 😳
Love this. Thanks. ❤
Fascinating and insightful 🎉thanks for this video
Still crazy expensive compared to 20 years ago. AL could have brought that room out right for 10k when they built it
It's brand new and would cost closer to $60k today to build..
Of course it’s more expensive than 20 yrs ago just like in Australia, everything is 4 times the price it was 20yrs ago
Fruit in Bali as expensive in Victoria..BLOODY EXPENSIVE
Yes but it's exported from aussie
Grows your own, cheaper! 😂 eats local fruits not imported.
There used to be a place like a hardware store in geraldton yrs ago Alan that you'll remember in marine tce the old fellow used to know exactly what he had and where it was everything you could think off . Enjoy bali ❤ ps love watching your stories muzza 12.00 dollars each last week for cauliflower in Aussie bugger
Wow
Great info muzza cheers!
I can't believe what you can get now in supermarkets in Bali now I have not been since 1993. My first time was 1980
Things have changed lottttts
Great video Muzza 🍻👍
Love MD will be there in a week.
I was a Heinz baked Beans man all my life but living in Indonesia Cirio Baked Beans are just as good but half the price of Heinz.
You should also buy your fruit and veg at a local market, cheaper than supermarkets.
@@michaelblack2334 I assume organic as well not spraying with chemical
Hi Muzza another great vid...how would you compare that Supermarket to the new Bintang Supermarket ? Cheers
@@noeldenney7782 bigger.. more options and higher prices
Thanks Muzza, very informative and helpful, Something to consider.
A few points
You can stay at an executive homestay ( which is similar to what Al has) for half the price and it will include WiFi and water .
You can buy a huge range of slow cookers in Bali.
It is illogical to bring one from Oz as the power voltage is different.
Smart expats shop at pande putri supermarket.
One very close to Al.
Hi Gary
What is the name of the executive homestay for half the price and where is it ❓
Alan stays at a managed facility where they make his bed and look after him, I don't imagine we are comparing apples to watermelons
@@MurrayWilkinson1 Does it include the "Female ? " sitting on the floor ? .
The voltage is the same as Australia....need a plug adapter and that's it.
@anthonydowling3356 no that's my wife. She is optional.. lol
I like going to Massimo Gelato in Sanur for brioche with 3 flavours of gelato for a fraction of Aussie price
Yum
😂😂 Love the shopping trip. Muzza, the look of joy on your face is gold 🤩
The look of a BOGAN.
That's a top notch grocery store.
I live in a retirement village in Tassy.
My total outgoings are $735 a month.
Retire to Bali?
No way.
Lying in hospital watching and getting hungry thabks buddy lol
Really good to see AL....and hes looking good. 👍
Now MUZZA......IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE YOU'VE MISSING OUT OF ANY FOOD.....LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE MANAGING JUST FINE.....
BUT MUST CONFESS....WITH ALL THE GREAT WORK YOU DO, YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR STRENGTH UP 👍🍳🤯😁
Prices dont seem to be too different to what we pay here and it could be easily be cheaper if you were to get the fruit and veg from the traditional market and just get the home ( OZ ) favorites from the Mega Special Market..
Really good to get a bit of a reference of potential food cost for long term stays....I actually think the prices are better than 10 years ago, most likely that there is a greater market now with so many westerners that things are more competitive and import in greater quantities.
Thanks AL, MUZZA AND VIE

I’m a born and bred territorian from Darwin, now living in Alice Springs. I’m 45 years old and now single after being in a relationship for 25 years, lost it all to my stupidity. I’m sure that’s the same story as a lot of these lads. I assure you I’ll end up there in the next 15-20 years when I can get my superannuation. Lastly - to the exe pats, thank you for your service boys if it wasn’t for you we would be speaking either German or Japanese
Hey Peter, Expats are just people living in a country other than their own.
I'm ex army retired in sanur, wouldn't mind catching Alan up for a beer
The amount of plastic needs to be addressed . Bali has a huge problem with plastic , but nearly all the food in that supermarket is wrapped in the stuff!
"Pave paradise , put up a parking lot ............"
And a lot of that plastic ends up washed up on Northen territory and North queensland beaches.
Looks like it’s a little better then Australia maybe.😉 people living in 🚗 and camper vans and on the street we have the most expensive living costs and average property prices of 1 million 😮 in Australia stay as long as as you can there 😀👍🥂
Love your videos and insights. My concern is medical/hospital treatment. How would you rank Bali’s hospital and medical facilities compared to Australia or Thailand/Malaysia?
And would you consider having a major operation in Bali or go elsewhere?
Thanks 🙏
The local system is good, if it was major it is only a few hundred dollars to get to Perth
Go elsewhere my mate who lived in Sanur passed away because of a bungled synopsis and treatment, go to Singapore, Thailand or Australia. He thought he’d be ok in Bali as he’d previously had a hip operation there and it went ok. But It’s too late when you find out it’s not.
Serious medical issues do not get done in bali😢
We have had some serious medical issues while in Bali, we have been coming here for 40 years, and I can guarantee you that the service we received from BIMC and the local doctors in Kuta was a 1000% better than Modbury Hospital!
There are a lot of bad motorbike crashes in Thailand. When I was in Bali I never seen any crashes. They just know how to drive in congested bike traffic.
Deaths all the time amongst the locals, not just tourists.
Fish and vegetables....perfect
Thanks for the Video.. very cool to see how you Guys live in Bali 😎😎🦘🦘
Air fryers are the best. When I’m in Bali for a long time the one thing I will spend $’s on is my cheese.
Vegemite, Weet Box, but did you find any Salt and Vinegar chips
New subscriber here. Look forward to watching your videos 🇦🇺
Welcome aboard!
Good fun Muzz
Top video you two blokes 👍👍❤️
The supermarket is more expensive than Australia 🇦🇺🥴
yes it is considering that many of the things we priced had to firstly come from Australia, its not surprising...
U need to eat local for cheap stuff
Great content mate! Only the video quality gives me a headache :D Is it settings or are you filming with your mobile phone? maybe something to look into^^ i'll still give you a sub & thumbs up.
My camera is having an issue and a replacement is still on its way
Hey,@@MurrayWilkinson1, no problem, I was worried because older videos of you had less off that issue. Seems like an Action 4 would do wonders for the channel! (Great dark recording also!)
It's depend on the life style or some one life style .. as a local here i only spent 5usd a day for meal , 45usd a month for a room to stay ( rumah kost )
Hi Muzza, can you give out the address of the hardware you visited, we're beachside Sanur, and need some stuff😂 cheers
Great up load thanks muzza Bali is still very affordable
Bali a rip of it’s got way to expensive cheaper to go to the Gold Coast
I will probably end up in Bali or Thailand or Vietnam. Can't afford to live well in Australia as a retiree.
Sad
Vietnam smokes bali
I didn't like it. I did love their food though.
It would be good to see a local market shop visit to compare.
uploading today
Good video Muz More vids on places that are cheap to eat and drink local .chur
Awsome Vid Muz
Other than the accomodation being cheap ..the rest of it food and beer is Aussie pricing .. I buy a carton of coronas here in Perth for $55 .so just over $2 a stubby and that’s what you said Bintang stubby was and Bintang is nowhere near the quality of a corona .. sadly Bali is no longer a cheap holiday destination
@VietnamViking2021 try and buy a beer in a pub or restaurant in Australia for $2.50.. last one I paid for in Perth was $14
@@MurrayWilkinson1 im talking about the carton of bintang you said he gets delivered for $46 AUD
Bintang - $1.80 wholesale and $2.50 in many of the bars. still beats aussie prices
Agree with you
Cheaper to drink bali tap water
Kiu lem, lem means glue. You can buy it anywhere even supermarkets
MUZZA
Where is this lucky shop located
We normally go to the Bintang market
Al
Its on the Hwy in Sanur
Muzz bypass it's the bypass and if you live on Al side like we did for 15 years it will do your head in trying to cross it half a dozen times a day
Has Al got any private health insurance or is he just relying on Bali’s health system?
Thank you
hey muzza try the Chiki Net, Potatoe BBQ flavored chex chips, I just ate a whole pack..... Hope to see you all Wednesday night....
Bali isnt cheap at all anymore. Not sure what you are trying to say there??
Huh? Try living in Sydney. Bali is still cheap in comparison.
@@EricGrotheJr I'm not talking about Sydney ya mong. There are cheaper places than Bali now also.
@cryptomafiya268 lol
Been going to bali for 40 years cheaper to go to the Gold Coast I never go back again
@@curtisthomas469😂😂
Groceries seem to be around the same or more expensive than Australia, haven't finished watching yet though so shall reserve judgement.
i never saw 1 e-scooter...i reckon they would be better than scooters eveerywea LOL
My thoughts exactly 💯
A consideration should be the July change in the retirement visa laws. You now must show you have an income or in the bank AUD 4,400 for every month of your visa term.
Yes, you have to maintain a minimum balance.. Al is on a veteran's pension and saves money every month.. it all depends on your situation
@@MurrayWilkinson1What type of visa is Al using? I have a 10 year permanent resident visa.
ill be there tomorrow mate, ill bring you some sour worms / anzac bikkies
Muzza
You should know !
Never go food shopping Hungry 😜😂
Hello Muzza, have you tried a Vegemite and salt & vinegar chip sanga.
Yeh i think theres smarter ways to shop than that. But prices still ridiculous, bali not an option but plenty of other countries more reasonable
Just curious I noticed al smoking can I please ask the cost of cigarettes in Bali thanks
$2.50 - $4.50
Wow I don’t smoke anymore but there 50+ here
If you roll your own tobacco, equivalent to 120 cigarettes will cost $2.
Hi Al ,, any licorice allsorts in Grand Lucky?
Couldn't find any. Bugger.
Bali has been ruined in the last 30 yrs. Expensive, and corrupt officials, including Police. Not for me.
Like everywhere
Yep it’s ruined way over priced now cheaper to go to the Gold Coast
Promite yummm.
I’m seriously thinking of moving to Bali to how do you get a property in Bali from
Australia permanently tho ??
I have done so many videos on the subject, look up my retire in Bali playlist
ruclips.net/p/PL8GuyZkhbN1MRBRCn8bGF1fS_GYgSxME9&si=wLzf7uZdmsbfoYLn
Also drink just a littleZoda for integration Muzza
What could possibly go wrong 🤔
That super market is a rip off.
Aldi in perth wa is so much cheaper
The food's the same price as Perth if not more 🤯. All I think of Bali is sucky sucky, or is that Thailand 🤷🏻
Muzza, majority of you recordings are of your mug, we can still hear you and I'm not sure we all want to look at you constantly. Point the recorder to the views of what you're talking about. Just a tip.
Mate, the microphone is on the front of the camera...
Get a new camera 😂
Had to stop watching my guts hurt from laughing so much
Mate, the living here in NZ (and Aussie) sooooo much better than Bali. You poor buggers living there.
How much is health insurance for someone Alans' age
Alan is on the local BPJS and it costs him $15/month
Hey Al
Will probably be seeing you
J no. 9
The trick is send you girlie to shop for you. Much less for her to buy..
Muz I'm heading over in a wk, staying in kuta how serious are u on these spur worms 🪱
Ginger ant in camera top left corner
Food is very expensive in
Al, do you have your age pension paid into Australian bank account or have it sent to Bali bank.
Aussie
Hahaaaa you need a shopping list love 😅
Love you posts
9 mil for Sanur.... Better than that here in Bali just saying
