This is certainly the best game going on Dien Bien Phu. Some of it is a little unorthodox but makes great sense historically.and plays easily after you learn its logic. The supply “game within the game” is wonderful. Thie campaign holds a wonderful tension to the bitter end. Both players have to not only battle each other but also their own weakest elements, morale for the Vietnam Minh, time and supply for the French. Definitely an all time favorite of mine. G
Just for a fun fact. Many french soldiers said that the female name you see on the map (which are the name of the stronghold of the camp) were based on the camp commander's mistresses. Also Isabelle which can been see in the map was not a part of the camp. It was an isolated camp 5 kms south of the main camp defending the south airstripe. It will fall at the end of the battle but wasn't the theater of the main battle.
Download the living rules 2.5d, if you wish. They hardly differ from those in the box, but there are some words here and there that clarifies some sentences that players have asked about. Contact me at CSW and/or BGG if you have any questions while playing.
Thanks for the unboxing. I have Nemesis & I've been thinking about this one for a while. I like that designers/publishers are moving away from the NATO symbols and are using larger & more graphically appealing counters - it can only aid accessibility. _If_ there is a down-side it is that I prefer mounted map-boards to paper (but that is a small niggle).
I'm kinda torn on the shift away from NATO symbols. It really depends on the art direction of the game though. Typically, I'll like having armor units and special weapons represented pictorially, but infantry can be hit or miss. The infantry seems to work here since the counters aren't trying to present too much information, and they do a nice job to evoke the scale since I would imagine this to be a step above tactical.
Went to Dien Bien Phu in Feb this year. A remarkably beautiful part of the world. But you stand at the Victory Monument and wonder what the hell were the French thinking?
It's a long, long game, but brilliant. The map and counters are fantastic quality. The French Air Supply sequence is almost a mini game in itself. Hope you guys can get it played and share your thoughts soon.
Do you have a reprint of the game? My copy does not have color rules....just black and white. This is not usually my type of topic but I found Kim Kanger's video soooo compelling. I've tried reading the rules but the trench rules are confusing to me. I did't know that trench map existed, I'lluse that next time
We just got it a couple of weeks ago, so I believe this is the second printing, or newest version at least. That trench map might be new, but I can't say for sure.

I bought it and our group played it. We found it a bit too complicated for our tastes. But to each their own.
Love the Oak Table!
This is our kitchen table, hand made by my FiL about 7 years ago.
@@ThePlayersAid well done he is a craftsman
Looks pretty good. Might have to add it to my want list:)

Would really like to see a review of this, heard great things.

Soon might be a stretch with the current situation =/
@@ThePlayersAid indeed. All the free time in the world, and no one to game with.. More importantly though, stay safe chaps.
Is the info on the map also in the playaids or
Rules? On map makes sense for 2p but solo that’s a pain ;-(
Counters look like something from Avalanche Press
Check out the video series on this game by Games with Bjorn. Might help flatten the (learning) curve.
8:18 😂. I guess we know which title is coming up next
Hahahaahah. My bad.

@@ThePlayersAid I was just looking through my copy and I *do* have the trench map.
