I think the 2024 version uses a multicolour engine to produce more colours per 8x8 square than is normally possible. There is probably some sort of timing issue with the Next causing the flickering. Maybe it's something they will fix, I think they did some timing fixes in the most recent update, if I recall correctly :). BTW how are you capturing your Next? I can not get audio to work via HDMI when using my Elgato Game Capture Pro. Thanks for the link BTW!
Cheers man! Yeah it's like some HDMI timing related issue -The flickering and the colors issue that. I fixed it now by updating to the beta 3.02.01 core. Dropped a video on that. Regarding the framegrabber, I'm using the simple Avermedia live gamer mini and have used an older Elgato Game Capture (not pro) in the past too. For quite some time I couldn't get sound from the MEGA65 and the Nintendo Switch with this Avermedia one though, while my Elgato worked fine with all my consoles and computers. Also I actually never had problems with the ZX Next (or Atari 2600+ either) on both capture devices. When I run into problems though (like with the MEGA65) I run a cable from the headphones jack to a soundcard input and capture the audio like that. Would have done the ZX Next like this too, if it wouldn't have worked for me out of the box.
The latest release is really good. Seen this game originally posted over at AtariAge on the Spectrum thread. I hope they do another Spectrum Next kickstarter this year.
Didn't even know there was a spectrum thread on AtariAge hehe.. Learn something new every day! Next kickstarter - I hope so too. Simply for everyone who likes to get one. That thing should just be kept being produced and kept in stock or something. They sort of worked that out with the MEGA65 too it seems. They're awesome devices to have on the shelve and I think in time more and more people will flock to these things, or feel bad for having missed out on a kickstarter or something.
Yeah I guess anyone on a speccy back in the day would've loved the original one regardless of how simple and hard it seems. Maybe I was a bit too quick to write it off and probably just need to put some more time in it perhaps 😄
Ah cheers man I'll look into that. Will try to capture the full 128k experience in with the best hdmi experience asap. I see the developer released the 128kb AY version so all the more reason to do another vid
Very much messing up yes! I've been playing around with some settings afterwards. I think it's less pronounced on 60hz, due to the flicker being faster and maybe scanlines also seem to give off the effect it being less pronounced. If I revisit this one on the channel I'll try to capture a better experience on the Next.

I'd have been pleased with any of those versions, but the new release looks really good (flicker aside)

You are running core 3.02.00 now. Update to 3.02.01 and HDMI should work better!
Ik ben benieuwd!
