- 1.5v output from a lithium ion battery!! Impossible - nope - very possible - this is the way forwards for 1.5v AA cells. These batteries perform quite well, a little under their "specifications" but still will be far better that Alkaline, Mercury, NiCd or NiMh in terms of life and their longevity. Lets put them to the test to see if they really do what the manufacturers say, and lets pull one apart to see how it works!!
Just bought some of those Kratax, they do perform really well honestly and I'm gonna replace all the batteries in my devices with them as soon as they die. I have some Ni-MH 1.2V in use right now, these are going to end up in my old camera, because it can use those without any issue, has a mode specially for them. Hope that the Kratax can be used extensively without dying prematurely. I'm tired of always buying giant packs of batteries only to throw them away after they're spent.
Yup, I'm still loving these ... they work a treat!!
Great comparison!!!
Thanks Matthias!
@DubiousEngineering Always welcome! I'm really curious about them. My Hixon's are on it's way 😊
Have a fabulous weekend ✨️
i got some kratax and i actually love them. 0 issues so far
Good news!!!
I was looking at reviews for lithium AA batteries because I have been tempted to try them. The EBL has an advertised rating of 3300 mWH hours and not 3300 mAh. So they may be performing closer to their advertised mark.
Yes agreed, they are quite useful, but not in RF or WiFi enabled applications due to their emissions. Very noisy!
I wonder how long they would last in constant daily use before their performance drops to unacceptable levels?
I think the Kratax will do quite well... the others just didn’t cut it for me... all the best Lee!!
I wonder if those values take in to account the Buck converter efficency? The "rated" values might well be for the Lithium battery itself, but with the conversion I'd say you got damn close to what was expected (in 2 out of 3 anyway :) )
Yes, not bad performance from the Kratax... I’d leave the others alone for now :-)
Tenavolts sounds a bit like another similarly named product 😉
Put on your Tenapants to use our Tenavolts.
I see what you did there 🤣
I nearly needed nappies... I was very nervous taking that unit apart!!
Perfect Video Production
We try :-)
This is a situation where being an early adopter seems very sketchy. I don't really want my AA batteries catching on fire. This video is a year old, already and I am not sure why the big battery companies aren't selling these yet. I suspect it is because they can't make them safe enough and they are worried about liability issues.
Agreed, none of the big boys have taken this on!!
I think the reason why big companies don't adopt this is because there is no money to be made the batteries are so good that they arent disposable right away it will many take you 2-3 years before you buy another one while disposables you have to buy new every three to 4 months that's my thoughts
@@noahherron827 LOL! Maybe the answer is the opposite - all these suck in daily life? The fact that you never know how much charge is left before they suddenly switch off is reason enough to avoid using them. Plus the much higher capacity of current NiMHs, which also run a longer time on > 1.2 V and have less self-discharging. Unless you have a specific mis-designed unit that doesn't run on NiMH reduced voltage there is zero reason to use these insanely overpriced Lithiums.
I wonder why Duracell and the other major companies do not make these. I ceased buying from them because they leave me no choice.
Yeah it would be nice to see a main stream vendor!!
I just got the AmpTorrent AA pro gen 2 batteries. They all tested from 1.52-1.54V. Interestingly it’s says in user manual to plug in battery charger first and then connect batteries
Very interesting! Hope they all worked well!
All my gizmos that use AA cells run quite happily on the reduced voltage of NiMh cells. Just wondered what the intended use/market would be for these cells.
NiMh tend to deplete over time... lithium holds its charge for years...
Lithium ion batteries are popular for game controllers/vr controllers that vibrate because nickel batteries tend to not have enough voltage to drive the little motors.
they work fine in xbox controllers
Yeah, NimH drop really fast in storage.
@@kaizen5023 drop about 20% in a year
Be wary of use in radios, or similar devices that are sensitive to RF interference. Basically unusable in radios due to RF emissions.
Yep ... almost exactly my point! :-) 😀 bahahahah... RF square waves, harmonics, damn noisy!
I can confirm; okay for FM radio, but not AM. FCC Part 15 Certification? "We don't need no stinking FCC Certification."
Seams like a good test. Except the meater was on the NiCd battery setting instead of the lithium one.
The important thing is the amount of current being drawn and for how long....
Great video. I think I'll order some Amazon brand rechargeable batteries. I have a young daughter that goes through batteries like crazy.
Yup the Kratax work quite well :-)
It's getting very hot!
Let's take it apart
What could possibly go wrong? 🥃 👍 😁
It's classic Howard 😂😂
@@JackBealeGuitar You have to laugh 🍺 👍 😁
Hahah - @jack beale @Sparky - I was pooping just a little :-)
@@DubiousEngineering 👍 😁
Thanks for your review, ill get the Kratax!!
one question, the li ion charger only charge li ion batteries? or i can charge Ni-mh ones too? thanks
The Li charger with only work with Li batts
Should you use the voltage actually delivered under load for energy calculation? About 1.3V instead of 1.5V?
Ahhh... you may have got me there! ... probably right!
thanks. can the cells w/ usb- Port can be charged in the covered charging device as well pls?
Some DAWAIKALA shop @ Ali was friendly and seemed competent. Is there any brand u prefer from Ali for the AA/ AAA 1,5 Volt Li cells?
keep up the good work
I think the USB cells can only be charged with USB cable
... alright then - might better use the USB plugs for these before I asked the shop or manufacturer ( one told me that a docking station/ external charger can as well be used but I forgot the manufacturer's brand)
That battery looks like the battery inside throw away electronic cigarette
It is exactly that!!
Lovely video. I bought the Kratax AAA cells. Can I charge them with the ISDT N8 AA/AAA multi-cell charger? Cheers.
I don't have an isdt charger so can't really comment - sorry!!
No, ISDT N8 not support lithium ion 1.5v. You can use A8 Air, C4 Air, A4 Air
Hi did you tried xtar green one rechargable battery ? If yes do u think they are better then kratax ?
Sorry haven't tried green!
mWh is a unit of energy. mW is a unit of power. mA is a unit of current.
Agreed…. Sometimes I just speak and then get a moment of … oh fek that’s all wrong, but I’m not re recording it…
Wow, was going to suggest using the other good battery to jumpstart the 0v battery until you said the battery was hot. That’s really scary that it was heating up without showing over 0 volts.
Yeah, something went wrong in the battery management circuitry... itnwas quite worrying 😟
@@DubiousEngineering Very glad it didn’t ignite, especially in the house. That pretty much removed Tenavolts from my consideration. Have you looked at Smartoools (yes, it’s actually spelled that way - lol), Keeppower, or Pale Blue?
@F16 kratax are my go to at the moment... not found much better yet, haven't needed to :-) 😀
@@DubiousEngineering Cool…thanks for the update. 🙂
How disappointing, but great video. Like the disassembly, just be careful!
Aha!! True ... dangerous work!! :-). I was nervous!!!
Can I charge them with a charger other than the one that come with the batteries ?
I have a IntelliCharger I4 .
Needs to output 5 volts
The fact you cannot fit as much lithium in the package is a poor excuse ! I have found as a rule of thumb with 3.7 v batteries, providing they weigh ok ( many lightweight forgeries used to be out there, not so much now ) 3/4 of the stated capacity is usually pretty accurate. Genuine Panasonic and LG are pretty much dead on however ' rounding up ' still goes on. I have found in the last 12 months most of the Chinese lithium batteries seem OK, the charlatans seem to have fallen away since the addition of compulsory VAT and the withdrawal of government shipping subsidies.
I’m with you... I’m happy that some of the really cheap crap 💩 that was coming over has been foiled!! ... the Kratax definitely did better than the others in my gentle tests :-)
Dubious presenting more like, when did mWh become arbitrarily interchangeable with mAh??
I may have missed something here, but the current drain over time at the voltage of 1.5 is the mWh. The maths still stacks up in the results
Shame you didn’t test the hixon li/ion as, as they are way more expensive and seem to be getting really pushed by Amazon atm
Interesting!!! I'll look into that brand!
Bro please tell were can i order them from i live in india
Sorry I don't live in India, Amazon is where you get these in UK
Do you know if I can use a standard battery charger for the kratax? Or do I need to buy the charger?
Its 5v to charge the cells so a standard charger won't work
@@DubiousEngineering Thank you!
Can they be charged separately? i mean, One or two at a time?
Absolutely!
What's the Best USB plug for the Kratax
Not sure what your asking there ... sorry!
Pallus us the same brand as Kratax if you see them.
Nice to know,thank you!! ☺️🙂
Regardless, that's a lot of power from a AA sized cell!
Agreed 👍
as you know most rechargeable of AA Voltage is Typically 1.2 Volts far less then Alkaline 1.5 Volts
That SAID..Did these KRATAX Brand Batteries Actually Test as high as a Full 1.5 Volts? ...THANKS Dubious Engineering :-)
Yes they did... with a multimeter they show 1.52V 👌
I've been trying to figure out which batteries I need for my devices and the rechargeable lithium has the benefit of consistent 1.5v at the cost of capacity and paying a premium. Cant fully discharge yet they die suddenly. When tested many seem to struggle when pushed and of course die faster depending on how much money you throw at it. If a magnetic charger can be used with the USB c port or even an adapter, it would be a plus for some devices but other than that maintaining 1.5v seems to be the only advantage. If your device is designed to use disposable AA, it doesn't need to maintain 1.5v as the disposable quickly drops in voltage. The 1.2v is better in that regard yet still outperformed by the alkaline in many devices. Idk of many devices that don't work with 1.2v or how they manage to work with alkalines once they drop. Am I missing something that makes these batteries worth paying as much as triple the cost of a 1.2v?
Hmmm your math is a bit fuzzy. To get mWh from mAh, you multiply by 1.5V, but it wasn't just 1.5V. Within seconds it was down to
I'm glad that battery makers are using Wh, but it's regrettable that the B6 doesn't give Wh.
Yes, agreed, fuzzy logic! You get the point though!
in your text Description here WHAT Do you mean by """better that" Alkaline" Did you mean Better "Than"?
Sometimes grammatical errors get by!
can i set up a skymc3000 to charge the Kratax ?
I use the images b6
Imax b6
@@DubiousEngineeringhow you charge the li-ion 1.5v in IMAX b6?
Same cell as used in electronic cigarette!!
Exactly that!!
I’m always disappointed with rechargeable batteries 😭
Yup... when technology changed from NiCad to NiMh I was slightly excited... this is definitely a step in the right direction, but they still need a little more developemnt to get the best performance. :-) Please don't hesitate to check out some of HooverLux's washing machine and vaccumcleaner videos... they will put a smile on your face!
@@DubiousEngineering Awwww bless mate, thank you. I’m a huge sci fi fan and I long for the invention of a power cell the size of a AAA , power enough for years, phones that charge in seconds and last for weeks! So many people say they wouldn’t want to live forever, sorry but I would 🤣
Keyword: almost.
So we’re good to go…
:-)
It looks like they're adding the ratings for the cells themselves and not taking into account an efficiencies of the buck converter or any of the others protection circuitry. It's a little disingenuous, but I guess technically it's not lying. Just feels bad. It is really funny though, I was just looking at buying one of these three brands and had almost settled on the kratax when I happen to cross this video. Lol
Tenavolts ? I'll not comment :)
I had more fire from my laptop batteries.
Teehee!!! :-)
@@DubiousEngineering you're welcome to use the video.
Must admit I’ve lost the link to it ... it would be good to keep on file for a future video release...
tene housefire haaaa
Hahah - yes indeed! Be careful! :-)
This very noisy battery ever, if you work with very sensitive radio frequency device this battery just bad. But it's okay for ordinary uses.
Just found the brand Smarttools USB C AA Battery just have a better performance than this expensive one, try it
Very good call, thanks! Yes, lots of electromagnetic interference
Can't stand videos with music. Gone.
Awww ... But it was my own home made music on a reconditioned synth... It's only on for a few seconds in the pre roll... All that effort wasted! Pffft
@@DubiousEngineering Just for me. I despise usic on elecroics typevideos.
