So this is what world class musicians look and play like. :).
THIS IS MY 'NEW' FAVORITE TUNE....DESERVES A GRAMMY NOMINATION...!
Could listen to this forever.
Me too
isnt it amazing how the master can take a simple hornpipe and turn it into a classic....
Gorgeous music. Cathal, Martin and Seamie, well done. Love this, one of my favourite pieces of music for sure. Live too! The best way for sure.
Sublime.. 10/10 in every way. Cathal's playing on this never fails to move me
A timeless classic, an absolute masterpiece.
Beautifully haunting fiddle playing
Warning-maestro at work.Entitled to their opinion but I have often heard criticism of the likes of Martin Hayes also from the guardians of purity. They are performers doing what all artists should strive for .Freshness and vigour of approach.Magnificent .
Three of the most impressive musicians......such a perfect rendition of these tunes...thanks for the music
This goes very deep. Truly soulful and all on board. Go raibh míle!
Words can only get us so far, music carries us the rest of the way.
Truly stunning lyricism, tone quality and phrasing, Cathal Hayden!
Doesn't get much better...great version
Takes a great tune and adds soul and longing...
could listen to this all night
Beautiful
"Music transports me immediately into the condition of soul in which he who wrote the music found himself at that time". Leo Tolstoy
LEO WAS SPOT ON !!
Normally I don't like to hear players getting too 'fast and loose' or even 'slow and loose' with traditional tunes, but these three make me realise that if it's right, it's absolutely right. And when they play it sounds so natural and instinctive that it can only be the result of playing these tunes for years and years and loving what you are playing. Sublime.'
Stunning playing, and a fabulous rendition, well done Cathal --
The most tender a hornpipe ever played I think.
Yes, it's an extraordinary transformation. Just think what he would do with other session standards.
Stunning. Played with such care, lyricism; free-flowing and inventive.
Just absolutely superb 👏🏻
Exquisite! Thank you for reminding me why I love traditional Irish music.
that man must have been born with a fiddle in his hands, magical.
Yeah, this man and Oisin Mac Diarmada!!! They know how to play the fiddle!!! Sleep well. Dorothea
Tears, magnificent!!!
Yes, goosebumps and moose bumps!
Is that moose as in "moose aboot the hoose" as in mus/mouse? Just kidding or joking around
beautiful.... fabulous......
Chuala me Cathal ag seinm an tiuin seo rud beag nios luaithe i nDoire ar na maillibh, agus creid no na creid e, bhi se nios fearr na an leagan seo!

... Xtraordinary fine tune and performance, the fiddle strings sounds like 'crispy velvet' - cool! :-)
He's playing in Eb which is why it sounds so good!

Just so exquisite.
Завораживающая музыка и исполнение,
Cathal, Thank you so much for your signed poster of the band, now enjoying a prime position in the Shamrock Bar Pattaya, and a great inspiration to my fiddle molesting progress !
Well if I'm ever back in Pattaya I know where I'll be going for a pint/wee dram - doon to the Shamrock!
❤️🙏
Well fair play to ye shams, tis more than glooming, much more. As Tansey would say a RFS to ye boys - Royal Fucking Salute or a Reel Flute Solo. Beautiful .....
The two
Upyahboyyah!!! 😀
I wish the camera man and the sound engineer would get together when deciding where to put those bleeding great microphone stands. Great playing, but I would like to see what's going on.
Ta an ceol sin ar fheabhas.nior chuala me a leithead le fada anuas.
Where can I get the notes? Is it in an unusual key?
Anyone know the name of the reel on the back half of this?
Thé Maud Millar
Anyone know if he has the fiddle tuned up to Eb?
i think so, I'm just learning the tune and I've had to tune my fiddle up, unless he's using some sort of the amp that can change the key?
Cathal plays in Eb tuning most of the time.
GOOD QUESTION...IT IS IN Eb....I';M GONNA TRY TO LEARN IT IN THAT KEY....
what's the second tune called
I believe it is Maud Miller
Second tune is Maude Millar - reel, with exceptional interpretation by Cathal.. in case you didn't find out before now.
Maud Miller's
Chops
Sorry what is a hornpipe
It's a type of Irish dance tune, always in a dotted 4/4 time. However this first tune, which is a very common Irish hornpipe, is masterfully treated here in a much smoother, sultry rhythm than what is commonly played at sessions. If you listen to standard versions of it and compare to this, you'll hear the genius in Cathal's rendition, it's breathtaking.
The Home Ruler? I can’t even recognize this tune.
The Irish ain't pretty but they sure can do music.
