Perry Como and Dean Martin were two of the greatest entertainers that ever lived. Both so relaxed, they played off each other perfectly. It is truly a shame that we don't see entertainment of this caliber anymore. And what we saw of Lena Horne in this clip shows another top caliber singer/entertainer. What I like about them is how they respected their audiences and themselves in the way they dressed. No ripped-at-the-knees dungarees here or tee-shirts. I, personally, can't see how anyone who watches MR> Martin and Mr. Como could not possibly be entertained. Maybe if one doesn't remember this type of entertainment, maybe if one was never exposed to it, but now there's youtube and one came become edified. We'll never see the likes of these people again, as someone wrote, and that is truly a shame. But then, they were out there to entertain and not make fashion, or any other type, statements. As far as being advertised by cigarette companies, well, what show then wasn't? Let's not put 21st Century morality in the way of viewing great entertainment. The problem today is there is no "show" in show business. No one knows true entertainment any more. I remember watching Perry Como on Wednesday evenings as a boy in the 50s and Dean Martin on Thursdays in the 60s. They were the type of acts I patterned myself after, along with their other contemporaries. To me, they'll always be the best the entertainment business had to offer and I'm glad I remember them in their prime and love seeing them in the clips youtube has to offer.
John Primerano Can you even imagine Dean in ripped jeans and a scruffy t-shirt? I have seen pictures of him in casual clothes, either dressed for golf or in slacks and a polo shirt relaxing with Jeannie and the kids, and he always looked the epitome of cool and classy. What today would be called ‘smart casual’
Im a Deano and Perry fan Since i found music they have always been top of my lists I hope the memory never fades. two of the most relaxed singer around.
bewiseasowls It would be interesting for us fans as well, to know which year a particular show was recorded. Sometimes you can pick up clues from the conversation, like here, with the references to the Beatles, it was obviously in the mid-60s. But that's not always possible to identify the particular time, and a 'date stamp' would be useful.
I think I figured out a date for this by googling Dean Martin on Perry Como by looking through the video posted there was one with Horn, Martin and Como. It was 17 min long, Lena was dress in the same clothes she had on here. It was the beginning of the show, they mentioned was the day before Valentine Day. The year on this was 1964.... So according to the one I found date filmed at least would be February 13, 1964 They did the beginning of the show, then jumped to the very end of the show, caught Dean coming on at the end and talking about Perry next show which gave me proof it probably was the same show .
Always apleasure to see these greats in action. It would be fantastic if a cable channel could air these old shows, in their entirtey, to give the younger generations a glimpse into true showmanship plus provide us older folks a trip down memory lane.
Wonderful! No need for flashing lights, rockets or scantilly clad dancers surrounding the performers. Just pure class, its only a pity that there are not more clips available of them working together. Only found 3 on youtube. Great to see them and hear them, Perry taking off Deans drunk act is hilarious.
I cant figure if you're throwing shade at Miley Cyrus and the like for their pyrotechnics and lack of clothing OR if you're a Perry fan sore that Dino got his own show with lights, rockets, and lots of dancers wearing very little. So is it Gaga and her light show or Dean and his Dingalings that's got you down? LOL! Either way your comment is very amusing.
La Penserosa Though Dean DID have the Ding-a-Lings, I don’t recall any fancy flashing lights or fireworks on his show, nor on Perry’s, Andy Williams or any of the other variety shows of the time. These REAL entertainers didn’t need any such fancy distractions because they could actually sing, with proper live orchestras, instead of miming to computerised backing tracks. What they also had was Class, from the way they dressed and presented themselves to the stylish studio sets. And the female singers were just as talented, and also always dressed elegantly and stylishly instead of looking like cheap tramps just dragged in from the gutter. And for those who disagree, I suggest you compare any performance from the likes of, say, Peggy Lee or Ella Fitzgerald with any of today’s so-called ‘superstars’ - it’s like the difference between the Hope diamond and cubic zirconia.
These guys came from humble beginnings. Dean from Ohio and Perry from Pennsylvania. They had talent and made it big for our pleasure being entertained.
When Perry croons a song, 90%of the time he makes it his own and it seems that it was written for him. We sure do not have this today especially in the so called reality shows.
caterham7jpe And just a year later, and for 9 more years after that, it's exactly what he did do!! (And even longer if you count his Celebrity Roasts) 😉👌
So very true. We only have trash these days. Nothing to be desired at all. This was a period in time when everyone looked classy, acted comical in a decent way. Just having fun and you could also watch these shows with your children. It was a joy those days!!
I loved how at the end of the show Perry took Lena's hand and wouldn't let go. This was 1964, so the end of the show would have been cut in the South. It has a 50s feel to it, except for the Beatles reference.
+Lynn Lobliner Dean had an affinity for this woman, when he got his very own show, the following year.he brought her on frequently as his guest.but, can you blame the man?.he and perry had pretty damn well taste in female singers particularly of color.
Loved how Dean show his friendship with Perry. He kept his hand on Perry shoulder throughout there song together. He did that when Harry Mills was his show, cause he meant so much to him. It was explained that Dean imitate Harry Mills from when he saw the Mills brothers in steubenville,Ohio when he was young. So Dean having his hand on Perry shoulder was a way of showing his feeling for a other entertainer he thought the world of.
great singers including Lena Horne..it was surprising when she died I thought she'd live forever...still can't belive Dino no longer here that Christmas he'd been dead 17 years...it hurt when I heard he died...wonder who the four idiots who dislike this are???!!!!!....must be Justin Bieber fans...at the beginning of the first part when Dino sang I'll get you on a slow boat to China (I think) I said oh Dino I'd go with you anywhere not just to China god that man was so sexy so handsome
From the "PERRY COMO'S KRAFT MUSIC HALL" special of February 13, 1964, originally telecast in color {a bit of topical humor ensues when anouncer Frank Gallop "makes like a Beatle" at 5:11- they had just appeared for the first time on "THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW" the previous Sunday, February 9th}; Bob Hope plugs his next "Chrysler Special" [Friday, February 14th] over the credits at 9:12.
How unusual two male singers actually competing for record sales and fans, collaborating with songs and entertainment. Refreshing! I saw Andy Williams with Tony Bennett sing together on Andy's show. Self confident and not worried about losing recording $$$.
Ray Opezzo I think the way they may have looked at it was a way of gaining new fans. I mean, you may not be familiar with the work of, say, Tony Bennet but would tune in to watch Andy Williams and in the process also become a fan of Tony (and vice-versa of course). I know this can happen because since finding all the old Dean Martin shows on You tube, I have also discovered such wonderful American comedians as Jonathan Winters and Foster Brooks etc who, as a Brit, I had never even heard of before.
"Next week, 'KRAFT SUSPENSE THEATER' will present 'The Action Of a Tiger', guest starring Peter Brown and Telly Savalas. This is Ed Herlihy, saying good-night for the Kraft Foods Company, creators of good food- and good food ideas...".
On a different clip someone asked why other Italian-American singers with beautiful voices such as Vic Damone and Jerry Vale (and there were others) didn't become huge stars like Perry and Dean. Part of the reason can be gleaned from this clip. Disarming stage presence and personality have a lot to do with it.
DINOLOVER6717 I think he was surprised and amused by Lena's comical twitch of her head to the music. Right after that he said to Perry; "see, she's funny, she knows what to do!"
It's amasing how in those days it was cool to kill others along with you with nicotine. I imagine more people smoked then than didn't. Core that other fellow looks half dead beside Dean and Como. Strange days although Dean had a lovely voice but can't listen to much of this music as too old sounding. I love some of it (and not so much other bits) and yet at the same time am bored by it - strange!
No matter how many people sang with Dean, all eyes were on Dean! He was the coolest!
Two of the most relaxed and easygoing singers you'll ever see
Both were of Abruzzese origin.Abruzzo is a region in Central Italy. We Abruzzesi are proud of these faboulous entertainers...May God bless them..
Dino Crocetti ( Montesilvano) Pierino Como (Palena).
Si,entrambi Abruzzesi.
Grandissimi...
As a wise man once said......didn't matter who Dean was singing with ......Dean always commanded your attention. He was a true performer.
so true as his producer once said " Dean was a performer and whoever he was with was a great singer. Nothing against Perry here he was a great singer.
It doesn’t get any better. Loved both of them and their shows.
They are so good together, no jealousy, only amity and mutual respect, miss them🌹
they are both Italian so brothers ...

I most certainly prefered perry ❤
its good that you tube, can let us hear some great singers like dean and perry.
Im a Deano and Perry fan Since i found music they have always been top of my lists I hope the memory never fades. two of the most relaxed singer around.
This was true entertainment with great artists.
Mark Giardina
Two of the Very Best! terrific!!
Two of the most beautiful men on tv-and the most talented!
These great clips should all be "dated"' for historical accuracy. Priceless clips and the greatest entertainers we will ever know in this century.

These guys were so awesome!
Two real, cool, nice Italian boys.
Two lovely men thank you.
people who should not never die
No one like Dean...so relaxed and wonderful, the best.
What great performers. I still enjoy hearing them. Thanks for posting.
I love both of youuuuu.. mr. Super Smooth Perry Como and mr. Super Cool Dean Martin ❤❤❤

@@LaPenserosa1 You should have left it at "I can't figure", you were ahead there.
These guys came from humble beginnings. Dean from Ohio and Perry from Pennsylvania. They had talent and made it big for our pleasure being entertained.
Such repartee and relaxed warmth and humor
When Perry croons a song, 90%of the time he makes it his own and it seems that it was written for him.

HAHAHAHA I love the irony of Dean at 8:00 "Hey I could do this, sit on a stool and read the cue cards/"
caterham7jpe And just a year later, and for 9 more years after that, it's exactly what he did do!! (And even longer if you count his Celebrity Roasts) 😉👌
amazing, great no words left to say more
When TV was TV, when Stars were Stars. They will never have the quality and quanity of stars of the past. GOD bless them all

Did these guys look like they was enjoyin' themselves?
great clip. thanks for sharing.
I'm 27, why am I so addicted to watching these Perry Como shows? Hahaha.
Claudia Fuentes Because true class is ageless...
These legends are timeless
@@lindashelley3635 exactly
I love the part when Perry kind of makes a Dean impersonation. Haha.
In Italy say Abruzzesi are strong and gentle.
Just perfect!
Pure talent!
Met Perry Como in my Black Beards Rest...Great Guy....
This was great, how can anyone vote 12 thumbs down?
one thousand thumbs up for dino and mr c

BOTH CLIPS ARE GREAT I LIKE HOW THEY PLAY OFF EACH OTHER, THEN HERE COMES LENA HORNE. I'M LOVING THIS. THANK YOU...
Deus do céu, deixe-nos retornar a esse tempo? Uma época onde havia sentimento e musicalidade, romance e amor. Salve Dean, onde quer que esteja.
Wonderful! Where are the likes of these today?
HOW LIKABLE & TALENTED CAN 2 PAISANOS GET? NOT MUCH MORE!!!
This reminds me of being a kid. I would stay up late and watch these shows in my pajamas before being led upstairs to go to bed.
I loved how at the end of the show Perry took Lena's hand and wouldn't let go. This was 1964, so the end of the show would have been cut in the South. It has a 50s feel to it, except for the Beatles reference.

Man ! How did we go from that to what's out there today so so sad 😭😭😭
These recordings are worth more than anything!!!
Como, great singer was a good host ... allowed his guests centre stage ...
The wonderfully talented Lena Horne. She had a remarkable voice that captivated audiences.
I'd take these guys over the Beatles any day of the week.
This is why I fell in Love with HollyWood.. this is Soul Pure Talnet/ Love.. Gos I Love this I Really Really DO!!

Those were the days...
When was this recorded?

Is it me or was Dean Martin the only one who could make breathing smoke out his his nose look cool?? lol
Little did Perry Como know just how long 'this Beatle thing' was going to last!

perry commo, as in australia is grouse. that means good. thanks
First song?
What year is this?
Any idea what year this was? My guess is late 50's early 60's.
Keith Wilson I think it must have been the sixties as they mention the Beatles.

To me personality is everything. Perry and Dean was not afraid to let their real self hang out.
Como was a fine singer but he disappeared when standing next to Dino. And Lena Horne was so fine!
Lena Horne...Stormy Weather!
I think dean's feelin a little come along for lena at 4:30 lol perry rolls his eyes! Still love em though. 2 great voices
DINOLOVER6717 I think he was surprised and amused by Lena's comical twitch of her head to the music. Right after that he said to Perry; "see, she's funny, she knows what to do!"
Just a handshake for the great Lena Horne at 7:30. 🤔 I wonder ....
@Nabokov50 February 1964
I never knew this...do tell. Being serious. They performed together without a hitch...so it would seem
yes, but bad is that on tv we see only bull shit of rap and never that what was real musik, only hte money play a role in this world!

but not as good as
Mick Jagger, Robert Plant or Ozzy Osborne.
This is so perfect
