Thank you for this video, this weekend I’m replacing the the fuel and and have a custom powder coated red skid plate to replace my terribly rusted one on my pristine 01 GC with 174k. I’m using a Delphi pump ass’y which are considered outstanding ($174). Your first 12 minutes was outstanding, thank you
Thanks so much. Keep me posted on how your project works out.
I'm a little jealous of your lift. I cut the access hole in the spare tire compartment, partially because I'm lazy but also because I live in Massachusetts and with the amount of rot getting that skid plate off without snapping bolts would be a coin toss. The key to cutting the access hole is to drill first through the side then use tin snips to cut a flap so you don't damage anything. Mine is an 04 4.0L with 356k miles. I'm cheap and pulled a fuel pump out of a junkyard from a low mileage wreck. If you cut the access hold the road noise is kind of annoying so I took a real thin rubber floor mat and put it on top of the fuel pump assembly then put about a whole can of spray foam insulation in there to seal up the gap. No road noise after that.
Thanks for watching and sharing your story.
I've got a 2004 grand cherokee 4.7. When i pulled the spare tire out, there was water in the tire compartment. I was under the impression that mine had a access door to get to the pump without dropping the tank. May cut a access slot out to get to the pump.
Please don't do that, that is very dangerous. If you use a pair of shears maybe but don't use power tools such as a cut off wheel because Sparks and Gas = BOOM.
The trailer hitch bracket is b put on because of a safety recall remedies to protect Gass tank in event of a rear end car accident. The dealer added one to our 97 jeep grand cherokee
Thanks for sharing. Hope you liked the video.
Really liked the video! Very instructional! Great job!👍
Thank you very much for the positive feedback and thanks for watching.
You do not have to be a mechanic to make great videos. An awesome job well done. I would drop the tank as I would change the filter at the same time. Might as well do both at the same time.
Thanks for watching and for the positive feedback. I agree, change both while your in there.
Great video. Pops and I watched to the end. Working on replacing the old one too. 😊
Im glad you enjoyed my video and thanks for the positive feedback. let me know how you make out.
it worked out thanks, so much for this video
Great news Thanks
Having the same problem. If u have any other videos you could share to help me out. It would be greatly appreciated
This is gonna help me out here in the next few days.
Very glad to hear that Scott and thank you for watching my video.
I love the garage hes able to work in wish i haddd tht ive done tht already on my 04 4.0l
Thank you for watching and thanks for the comment.
With the latest recall, I think this aftermarket hitch on a WJ would have got you an OEM hitch installed for free by Jeep.
I forgot about that recall and you might be right.
I got the crank ,no start situation on a 2000 jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0. multiple problems. Replaced ECM, replaced fuel pump after 0psi diagnosis. Hoping it's just the cam position sensor. I am able to communicate with ecm via OBD2 port
I could be the sensor. Good luck and keep me posted.
I use a cheap 12 volt pump from wish that worked like a charm sucking the gas out,
Thanks for watching.
thank you
Thank you for watching
How did you end up removing the 2 bolts at the end of the hitch (the ones you said you had trouble with)? My bolt heads just spin and no access to nuts. Thinking about cutting bolt heads off or drilling hole just above them in sheet metal. (I took my bumper off). What do you think?
Your ideas sound like they will work. I soaked mine in penetrating oil and then heated them up and finally they broke loose. Thanks for watching.
Good one
Thanks for the feedback
I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo WJ inline 6. Spent more money trying to keep it on the road. Then what I spent to buy it. I can see why junk yards are littered with Jeeps. They are a money pit.
My Jeep is still here and running strong and it has 300k miles on original motor.
@@WATCHMEWRENCH Count your blessings.
Spent 2k on the jeep and about 8k on keeping it driving. Only had it 2 years
Yup. Completely agree. But can’t afford another car. That has 4x4 and isn’t a piece of crap with a lot of miles.
Hey Ik this video is old but quick question when u reinstall the fuel pump how does that gasket sit in the tank when u go to reinstall drop the pump
I dont recall so many years later, but if you watch part 2 I am sure you will find the answer to your question.
@@WATCHMEWRENCH I don’t think it really showed much in the second video but I’m having a crank no start issue would it mostly likely be the pump
Is this the same sputtering problem from the previous video where you replaced the plugs?
That was a different vehicle that you saw me changing the spark plugs on.
Cut an access hole in the spare tire well!?
Once again that is incredible dangerous gutting through a metal floorplan which will create sparks directly above the gas tank.
I wish I had a lift and a thing to hold the tank up. I don’t know how I’m gonna do this. It needs to be done asap. Mine went out today.
This looks like an absolute pain!
Its not a bad job actually to do.
Another informative video. Where is the vette Wrench? Any videos coming soon?
Hello Anthony, I will be posting a Corvette video in a few more days.
Nice shop bro
Thanks for watching
that hitch is to keep it from turning into a pinto
Thanks for watching
Hey buddy, Do you think this can be done in the drive way with just a jack?
yes I dont see why not
@@WATCHMEWRENCH Well I know what i'm doing tomorrow. Any tips? I'm really worried about locked bolts.
I would advise you not to rush, maybe spray WD-40 on all bolts now and let the fliud soak in over night on any rusty bolts. Also take photos if you have to this way you can reference the photos if you forget which lines goes where. Check for cracked lines, Im sure you'll have some as I did. Hopefully you watched both part 1 and 2 of my videos.
Sounds like an idle pull on the belts going bad squeal..easy to replace. Thanks for the video. My fuel system in the rear is wining...
Thank you for watching and your right about that squeal.
Wasn't the hitch an actual recall? Because without it it left the tank unprotected
you may be correct, but that is an aftermarket hitch I installed. My Jeep never came with a hitch.
Yes it is a recall, as without it, if hit from behind can cause a fire or explosion.
The recall was specifically to replace after market hitches. If you had no hitch they wouldn't add one. I had an after market and they replaced it with a factory hitch.
4:57 woah woah woah I assure you I take at least 3 minutes.
thanks for watching
DID CHANGING THE FUEL PUMP FIX THE MISFIRE PROBLEM ?
Yes it did, watch part 2 and you see the results
Screw that I'm cutting a hole 😂
I dont recommend that. The fuel tank is right under there. Thanks for watching.
Drill on the side then use tin snips to cut a flap and you are good
@@jenf1387 can u pleaseeeee tell an approx location of were to cut pleaseeeee
That plastic ring tho putting it back it's a bit hard
That ring is a bit tricky ozz zxp. Thanks for watching.
The guy who changed my fuel pump show me the old part and it was made out of plastic! He said that he got me a really good fuel pump and it should last up to 100,000 miles. Does this sound right to you? I just want to make sure I’m not getting ripped off.
I would have to know what part he showed you to help you out, sorry but that is all I can say with such little info.
Jeep WJ (99-04) Grand Cherokee's are a nightmare to work on. Avoid these as a used vehicle.
LOL. Thanks for watching.
@@WATCHMEWRENCH Great job showing the WJ tank drop and pump replacement. My rusty GC 2004 needs the same job so pre-gaming the work.
I'd just pull the spare tire out and make an access hole and pull from the top side
Please don't do that. Its dangerous and you would be cutting over the fuel tank and fuel lines.
@@WATCHMEWRENCH done it a few times on different vehicles. Minimize risks and go slow.
Awesome any chance you could give some advice on the procedure to cut that hole
@@davecody5997 can you refresh my memory, what hole? Its been many years since I made this video. what time in the video did you see that part?
Why is the pump whining
Thats not the pump that was a bad pulley
