    December 2021,.........A great way to end this year,....wishing this was still 2015. Back then, life was less stressful, for the whole world. Nobody in 2015 could have imagined that a plague, would sweep across the whole globe, and kill millions. I'm a vintage a model,..I just turned 68, & the plague made mincemeat out of my generation. Here's hoping 2022, is better for humankind.

      Great band, all in all, but as an older drummer, I am loving the light, showboat-free approach your drummer takes. With all those cameras going, and he never once felt driving to throw in something unnecessary. Though I would have liked it if he did, too! :) I notice your other drummers are all great as well. YOu are blessed.

    Thank you, Jim, Larry and Randy for the music. I am going through many of Jim's recordings while waiting for my own Hammond to arrive this week. I record much, but it is all by myself, and I have dreams of playing in a band, but also like being solo on my synthesizers, where I can control better abrupt key changes without telling anybody on the side of me. If I could route midi key into a bass and/or electric guitarist I could have so much fun on stage, but well, though that would be my ideal way of changing keys, it still seems a far off possibility. Have you ever heard of a keyboardist doing this, transposing the other players using midi messages while playing live? Or have you ever tried it? As long as they would play mostly rhythm backing, unless it is time for a solo, it seems like a way to create another kind of playing togetherness. Well, off to another video. Keep up the good work!

    Sure, it ain't Hiromi, but nothing will ever be Hiromi... Digressing aside, all the online presence of Jim, Tony, and the Hiromi of the organ: Joey, that's all good news to preserve our civilization. Hip-hop, DJ'ing and EDM are bringing our culture down to stone age.

    i just got a b3 and a leslie 31h and its being wired with a 1/2 moon to a 6h socket which should work for a 31h,or 21h, or 122
    I also want to have it wired it for a leslie 3300
    I am considering a trek cheek block with a fast/off/slow switch for the 3300 would you recommend this? - or some other way?

    Greetings from Denmark. What a great performance. What's that hole in the middle of the Leslie3300?

    • @JimAlfredson
      @JimAlfredson  8 лет назад

      +Morten Gjesing That a custom back panel made by Valhalla Woodworking. The idea was to add bass ports to the 3300 in order to increase the low frequency response. It didn't really work all that well. Hammond switched from MDF to plywood a few years ago and those plywood cabinets have much better bass response.

    • @ostesvinet
      @ostesvinet 8 лет назад

      +Jim Alfredson Hi Jim. Interesting. I didn't know about the MDF/plywood. I have a Leslie3300 myself, but I don't know what it's made of. I play organ/piano in a band with "left hand bass" and had a little issue with my bass sound in the '3300 (I use the Electric Bass sound from my SK1-77) and thought it was a bit too unstable and "shaky" when the leslie was running in tremolo. Now I have bought a bass combo (TC Electronics BG250-210) and takes the bass signal from LINEOUT while running the organ sounds through the 8pin cable. It works very well. All I need now is practice, practice and practice. :-) By the way: I love the way, You play the old classics Hip Hug Her and Green Onions. It's sooooo good!

      @@JimAlfredson This is really swinging and maybe one of the best examples of organ playing with pedals I have heard among the YT videos of this organ. I'm looking at the newer XKS model. So is your left hand doubling your pedal line for emphasis, as if you are filling with another tone or click or something? Your right foot plays the pedals and your left foot rides the volume pedal? I used to play church pipe organ and would imagine I would play the pedals with my left foot, volume right. But I like the concept of groove with the right foot and left hand for balance. I've produced the late Great Dick Hindman jazz pianist great for his final 2 decades or so of recording, and I can honestly say your pedal groove was excellent here and inspiring. I will try and pick up pedals with my purchase. How many pedal notes is big enough? I thought you were syncing to a prerecorded bass from that lap top in the background until I read you were kicking pedals below. Super cool.

    • @JimAlfredson
      @JimAlfredson  3 года назад

      @@downpatmusic Thank you for the compliments. The laptop was just for the actual audio recording. All music is played live, no pre-recordings.
      My approach to bass pedals for jazz on the Hammond is to treat them like the lowest string on a real acoustic or electric bass. The left hand is doing most of the heavy lifting and the pedals accent and produce the really low notes. Since this particular tune is kind of a 'boogaloo' / Latin-esque feel, almost all the fundamentals in the bass line are on the pedals and the left-hand is doing the fifths, the passing tones, the lead tones, etc. This frees up the left hand to also do little rhythmic flourishes, switch the Leslie speed, change drawbars, etc.
      This tune is available on our live recording Live At The SpeakEZ which you can find on Apple Music, Amazon, Spotify, etc.

    • @downpatmusic
      @downpatmusic 3 года назад

      @@JimAlfredson Makes sense, thank you Jim. Wonderful playing and feel. So it seems like for today's market the Hammond XK-5 with its latest engineering is a good choice. For the pedals go with Hammond XPL-200L 20 Note, or would the smaller XPK-130G suffice? The SKX, with extra sounds, would also be a good choice for live. But it seems for a studio piece the XK-5 would be a better instrument. I have all the other sounds in many incarnations in the studio. Keep up the great music and creativity.
