This music was on the radio when I started playing in "67". The next year at Xmas time I was with my older brother and Dad in NYC. We went out to dinner at a club and I didnt understand why we paid to get in to eat. The special was Southern fried Chicken N Waffles. We sat at a long banquet table and behind us an organ player rose up from the stage flood behind us it was JIMMY SMITH. This was one of my best memories. The sound of this Hammond reminds me of that. It was the Jazz sound of that time.
Sort of like borrowing a classic car and going for a drive through beautiful country landscapes, this version honors a great song in the process of taking it to new places.
I used to play Green Onions back in the day with a Beach Music band from NC but I never played it like this. Jim gives his version of this song new meaning with his mastery of the Hammond. Outstanding my friend. May God continue to bless others with your wonderful talent.

MAN JUST FLAT OUT KICK ASS INCREDIBLE ! My squeeze--she plays keys in our band--and I were just glued to the sound system listening to you guys. JUST GREAT !
Truly inspired. As a drummer I have been wanting to play Hammond organ for 40 odd years now and this guy and his band smokes. They have respected this Hammond classic and carefully applied their own creative layer. The solo is definitely JS inspired and afer hearing Booker T live recently I reckon its a credit to his legacy. Over to the haters! Mark
OMG I love this song, and your performance is absolutely great! I am very glad to hear someone playing such song with such quality. Best regards from Brazil.
Thank you for the compliments. I like a clean organ sound; its just a personal preference. I like the organ to start to grunge up only at the very top of the dynamic range, when you're really pushing it. That's just me.
I remember when this first came out. Always enjoyed the shuffle pattern. I was playing drums in a trio, with a B3 player who could run some fierce bass on the peddles, and a screeming blues guitar player. Fun times for sure. And triplets were a great break up to the shuffle. And the bass player here, is sure layin down some solid foundation. The rebar before pouring the cement, if you will.
I gotta say, this is probably about the 10th time I've watched this... and I can't believe that it's got less than 500,000 views! It's the best performance I've ever seen of this work, including posts by Booker T. Washington himself. Bravo, Mr. Alfredson, an EXCELLENT performance!
Sounded great. Caught how the drummer got a little 'sly' around 1:40... and, how the organ player smiled instantly after he picked up on it. In its own right... This is an excellent version of the song!
Wow 😯 playin this at sept reunion gig , and hopin to pull off getting xk5, I love booker yet , what and awesome 😎 9 minute version , love all the minor 9ths and tremendous chord changes. Spectacular is all I can say. Rock on bro
Excellent. This has been one of my favorites since it came out (yeah, I'm that old) and this is a really good rendition. I still prefer the original, which no one seems to do anymore. 😕
Sweet! Green Onions - One of my fav songs to play. Wish I had the Hammond - I make do with my Yam Motif - nothing like that Hammond sound. Of course your skillful mastery of every lick in the book doesn't hurt one bit! Nice job.
You always know you are in for a real treat when you show up at a show and they is a B3 set up. Rarely would someone go to the trouble lugging it around if they can play the tone wheels out of it!!!! Nice playing!
Jim. Just know that whenever I want to smile from ear to ear, I play this video. The way you build it is truly inspiring to me, a person who's played the organ since I was 4. I get too excited too quickly (ok I know what that sounds like but keep on track:) and I lose focus. So, the focus and control that it takes for you to play this song is what makes me smile. Come to Cleveland! There's an awesome room in which I've seen Brian Auger, called "Night Town" where you'd go over well. In other words, the crowd can appreciate good music. Keep it up bro!
Awww you hot dawg .I thoroughly enjoyed that performance .you mentioned Keith Emerson .when my dad worked at rich's piano and organ 1960 to 70s he tuned the concert grand at Atlanta municipal auditorium I think they rented the piano from Rich's not sure ..

Ah, this is the kind of performance that leaves you something to think about. It is so good, it makes me appreciate Green Onions more.
Just figured out why this sounds so good ---- very clean playing ---- so good
That’s fantastic Mr Alfredson
This is an AWESOME cover of Green Onion. Awesome. Thanks for such gorgeous music!
Best version of Green Onions I've heard. Keep up the good work Jim!!!
Jim, you are so awesome to watch! Effortless! The Satriani if the B3!
lrblouie Agreed!!! It is the effortlessness of it that makes it so impressive!
Arguably one of the two best known instrumentals ever written in the history of rock music, along with YYZ by Rush.
Jim love this performance. This tune couldn’t have been covered any better.
wow...this is such GOOD music...LOVE IT...

Would've been neat if you asked Steve "The Colonel" Cropper to sit in on this one.
ABSOLUTELY THE GREATEST arrangement and performance of Green Onions of all time!
Your playing a song from one of the great's. Booker was and still is great inspiration. You guys sound great. Thanks for posting.
It's only braggin if you can't back it up... and you got it all backed up and then some... A real joyful listening experience..
Thank you

The viking, son of Alfred, sure has soul. The band nailed it, really good stuff. Thanks!
Большие мастера!
@omrixeren I use the Hammond XK3 with the Traditional XK System (lower manual, pedals, and legs) going through a Leslie 3300. I love it.

Jim Alfredson I wonder if you guys ever cover songs by The Beatles
Belchmaster41 Yes, we do. In fact, we're working on an album of Beatles covers right now.
what about doing a cover of The Dance by Fleetwood Mac? for Tusk, you need to have a Marching band come in at the 2 minute
siete formidabili grandissimi tutti un saluto valerio
There is just nothing like that Hammond tonewheel sound. Some things can never be improved.
Браво! Шикарно! Потрясающе! Восторг из России!
Love it!
This was incredibly awesome! I am a new fan of yours with an SK1 and M100. Will keep an eye out to see if you ever play near Pittsburgh.
awsome!
We want them for the Palisade Peachfest next year! Hot B3!
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you :)

@Keyboardman88 The reverb is within the XK3. You can switch it on or off with the push of a button.
I believe the same still now !
Nice,, makin that hammond sing.
This is what I'm talking about. I used to listen to this on a 45 rpm record when I was about 10 years old, about 1966.
That B-3 is a "beast" & must be fed.....so is the Fender guitar some mean licks on both !
" WOW ".
