- Day 3 on the coast over Easter 2020, we take my V8 Land Rover Discovery 1, the Suzuki Samurai and the Racelux (Toyota Hilux with a Supercharged Holden Commodore V6) through Tailing's track on the West Coast of New Zealand. What a 4WD track! Proper proper tough! Enjoy!

Really enjoyed the video. Looks like a brutal track! What winches are you guys running? The sound like electric lowmounts but they pull too quickly 🤔
Thanks!!! Yep it’s a proper gnarly track, can’t wait to do it again! 😂 we all were running Runva EVO winches, they’re very affordable and seem to do the trick. Very fast for a low mount, have an 80:1 ratio. Not particularly high quality so I think a couple of us are planning to move on to something a bit nicer soon. They get us out there tho!
@@Crawlerer79 ah! That makes sense! 80:1 is cookin'! M8274's are 130:1. Is the Runva in the HiLux mid mounted?
Yep, it’s almost too quicker gearing in my opinion, especially on my Disco that’s a little heavier it really slows down on a big pull and puts too much load on the motor. Going to be changing it out soon to something slightly slower geared but hopefully spins happier once it’s all loaded up! And it sure is

I know I’ve said this before brother, but it’s ironic that we used to drive all these tracks in standard land rovers with a light foot, a low gear, and ZERO damage 🤷🏼♂️

Been watching your vids for a while and I have to ask, what on earth are those big wedge shaped things you guys carry on your rigs? I feel like thats a silly question but I am not from NZ, lol
They’re ground anchors 👍 we carry them on west coast trips and are used in comps too. Occasionally break them out in my videos, they are really handy when there’s no trees to winch from!

That proper steep hill I have been 1 of a very few trucks that have ever driven that hill, have driven it unassisted both ways on 2 separate runs through Tailings

Yea it’s probably my favourite track or certainly a contender! Certainly a tough tough track, a lot I couldn’t film cause it’s too hard to get outta the truck 😂
