The Las Olas downtown and beach are too big of tourist destinations to not have a better options to get to-and-from. There are all kinds of options! If don’t want the hassle with the costs such as digging a tunnel, how about hiring an HOP ON HOP OFF electric cart shuttle service that’s consistent? As a downtown resident this has FRUSTRATED me for years why this hasn’t been done. Yes, we currently have electric cart options but must call for appointment or see one by random. Instead I’d rather have a station somewhere downtown on Las Olas and another near the A1A intersection so you always know where to find one without relying on random or luck. If done right the cart drivers could make a good living (tips $) and customer can get service at half the cost than Uber or Lyft. If carts can’t handle the volume then get a bus or tire trolley system that that comes every 10/15 minutes and you pay $2 one-way. Whether cart, trolley or bus, there would be no enormous pre-construction costs and you could start this system immediately. Maybe a shuttle system wouldn’t be a huge money maker but the convenience and better connectivity could mean more business for the shops, restaurants, etc., on this 2.7-mile community loop that’s just too far to walk yet too short for taxis, Ubers, etc. If city can benefit long haul, pay the drivers a livable wage! Everybody wins. At least try either a routine bus or trolley shuttle or electric cart system on a seasonal basis (aka November to end of April) as a trial and see how it goes. If it catches on with more riders than expected, then expand operations to every month. If it lacks business, then shut it down.
Hope they dont allow this its all gonna benefit tesla and the mayor. They are going to charge an arm & a leg for this sensless crap but cost tax payer money to fund it then they make their money its all a round buisness they never loose. But yet the streets are full of pot holes its rediculous
