I was looking at the amber speakers for atmos use my ears like the ribbon tweeters I own Airmotiv Speakers from Emotiva love those speakers , I wanted to keep the ribbon tweeter throughout my room
It really wouldn't matter (as long as the play 80hz-20khz), but you most likely won't find too many 3 way in ceiling speakers. Larger setup than a 2 way and not necessary for the presence surrounds.
i have Klipsch RP-140SA but i not like the up firing thingand i cant install them like in ceiling speakers bcoz no mount for it , what you recommend to use ?
If you don't have a way to access the ceiling and run speaker, upfiring is the easiest option. You could always buy some L brackets and mount your current speakers to the ceiling and run speaker wire up the wall and across the ceiling. Not the cleanest look, but I've seen that done as well.
Thanks so much for this review. Super basic and stupid question... I'm looking at installing a complete 5.1.4 Atmos system with Monoprice Ambers. I'll use the 3-way 6.5" for L&R, the dual 5.25" for C and most likely the 6.5" 2-ways for surrounds. However, what's your guidance on 6.5" vs 8" in-ceiling height speakers? My room isn't all that big (roughly 15' x 16' seating area) and the ceiling is 9'. The difference of $50 or so for both pairs isn't really a factor for me.
I think you would be just fine making the atmos speakers the 6.5" just like the surrounds. If all of your speakers were bigger, then sure, go with the 8" just because, but you'll do fine with the smaller ones. I went with larger just due to the fact that my surrounds are 10" and my mains have dual 12" woofers.
@@pdalbey yea if you go with 8" surrounds, might as well do 8" atmos if the cost isn't an issue. I feel larger speakers give a more accurate replication of sounds.
Haha I have been eyeing these as well ( I commented on your 1299 video) did you ever get a chance to a/b test them? I was considering these or the ones with the 15 degree angle so it can be pointed to the seats for atmos use. Btw I saw your shirt LE?
I really need to take some time this week and do a comparison. Just got done with my 7 on shift, I'm 7 off now. I'll do that this week.... While they are good speakers, I'm actually thinking about doing a conversion to the Volt 8s. Saw a guy do that and it seems to be a pretty easy swap. But I'll obviously keep the channel updated if so. And no LE or MIL. Dad was LE though. I went to school instead. Got my PharmD. Did teach CCW for years and have nothing but respect for the LEO and MIL.
Lol yea they make in wall speakers like this as well in a few different sizes. They should fit between the studs. We gotta get that basement of yours hooked up!
I know, I really need to make that one soon! I've been busting it trying to get the bar done lol. The ribbon tweeters definitely have a little more clarity than the dome tweeters. And the cans/ports really helped the bass, but unfortunately not in a good way. The ports make it sound boomy and inaccurate. I didn't notice that until I listened to the ceiling speakers alone. Going to put the port plugs back in and see how that sounds. Once I finish the bar and can put the plugs back in and compare, I'll throw up a video. But that's the situation currently. I think once the plugs are added they will have an overall better sound with the cans. Thanks man
@@LifeofBliss I know this is old, and you made the other video now, but I had a question about this. I know you put the foam plug in the port. Was that just so you didn't have to take the speaker back out? Would it be the same if you just left the plate on the back side?
@@matthalle2071 yea I got the best results doing it that way. Helps with noise transmission to the above space and I got a better sound plugging the ports

Fan of the can.
How hot could those cans get?
I doubt they get hot at all. The speakers aren't subs, and they don't see a ton of wattage continuously. Heat was never a concern for me
Kevlar is Dupont trade name for aramid fibre and it is yellow in colour..
for in ceiling atmos should it be 2 way or 3 way speaker ?

Do they make wall mount! I put all my wires in the wall.

What was the difference compared to the other speaker without the cans and the different tweeter? Follow up video never came. Lol

@@LifeofBliss cool. My bar and theater are in the basement, so you'd recommend getting the boxes but leaving the plate on then.

Personally, I'd put a strip of dynomat or equivalent, oround the outside of that metal can.
That would work well too. Didn't have any, but had plenty of foam from other projects. Not a bad idea though
