New Owner here! Man i really do look fly in that car! Though i kinda feel bad taking her from you. @@OnkelPHMagee yeah its definitely a learning experience. almost got rear ended by a fedex truck after braking to get her started again. you need a lot a patience and a clear calm state of mind to operate a car of this vintage. though i am young (just starting college) i have a lot of experience and am able to get lots of tips with these cars as my dad has a collection of 2 ahb's and had one civilian slant six dip which was wrecked. the most I'll to to spruce her up is slap some dog dishes on her preferably with beauty rings as well. about that car show, I'm not much a fan of going to the DC part of the state and i live closer to Baltimore than DC and i plan to to the car to the Hunt Valley cars and coffee just outside Baltimore. anyway I'd like to see a vid of your fifth. just uploaded a short clip of the fury

You glued in the headliner fabric wrong. Spread out the fabric on the backer, fold half of it back, spray the contact cement on BOTH the backer and the folded fabric and LET IT DRY... Then carefully spread out the fabric on the backer... it will stick when it makes contact Repeat on the other end.

Growing up in a GM and Ford family, Chrysler jokes were only ever a few minutes away. The M-Body cars were what first opened my eyes to the fact that Chrysler did make some really cool, good vehicles. Sad to see you sell yours, but I know you'll replace it with something as equally worthy of the attention. Unfortunately, the only local M-Body to me recently met it's end in a crash that totaled it out; and the owner replaced the 5th Avenue with a 90s Buick Century (big downgrade, if you ask me). It's sad how few of these have survived to the present, but I'm glad that there are still some people who do appreciate these old Chrysler boats.

So many are ready to bad mouth the Mopars of the Iacocca era and the years that followed, but Chrysler really did try hard to keep their down sized cars handsome on the inside and smooth riding. Under appreciated at the time, but it seems that the collector hobby is starting to realize how good these cars could be.

12 mpg the lean burn was acting up..these were 17 average combined mpg...Over 20 on the highway..Lean burn kills all performance/power it's only 1/4 throttle of a non lean burn version albeit you change the carb, still using a 2bbl..
Dad had up to 26 mpg with our 1985 Chrysler 5th Avenue, lean burn replaced when brand new and a non smog 2bbl carb put on,car had nearly same performance as our new Monte Carlo SS 305 4bbl,it sat right on its rear bumper from a start...Adjust the shift linkage so it goes from 1-2 nd gear at 50 mph instead of 40 lol...like the old Mopars it went from 1-2 at 50..not 40...before that the 5th Avenue was about 8 car lengths behind it ,after that right on its bumper..at certain rolling /passing speeds it was ahead. ..Both cars were brand new! 318 had Recurved distributor that alone adds min 10 hp some even closer to 20 hp.(yes my buddy has a dyno and a shop and years later he tested all things like this as he builds engines),2bbl off a 68 Dodge 318 2bbl(I even used the same 2bbl off a 77 Dodge Van it worked great on another car I had)cat removed..this was brand new,my Dads business car..He also had a new Monte Carlo SS being a Mopar guy that was tough but wanted the last 2 door V8 cars,Mustang was a tiny compact car..
If you would have changed the lean burn system/deleted it..Mopar orange box ecu, vacuum advanced distributor and a 2bbl cant remember the part number but its a non smog version(they made many 318's with a smog 2bbl that had no lean burn and the cars had zero performance)...If you would have swapped that out,or even added points/distributor the car would run smoother, have more power and the engine would rev up..Yuo know what I mean when its removed and the performance goes from night to day..The car with lean burn when floored is a non lean burn car at less than 1/4 throttle!! Yes,it's true..
I converted many 1976-1989 Mopar's in my life!

    • @pkranz937
      @pkranz937 5 лет назад

Pure bullshit. The ESC with feedback carb gives the most power and best fuel economy because of the precision timing and fuel control via the computer. If that weren't true, none of today's cars would have a computer, either. But they DO.
Most - actaully, close to nearly ALL - problems blamed on the ESC were carb issues, tune-up issues, vacuum leaks, and/or wiring and connector problems. Basic diagnostics.
Unless the computer is 100% to blame, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to be gained by hacking up the car and tearing out the ESC.
Even then, a reman computer is FAR cheaper than a new non-feedback carb and electronic ignition kit.
Those are facts. Keep the computer, and you'll have a very nice, reliable car. Or sell it to someone who will appreciate it more than you do.

    M body production plants:
    1977 - 78 - Newark
    1979 - 83 - Windsor
    1984 - mid 87 - Fenton
    Mid 1987 - Mid 89 - Kenosha (Main)
    US Models:
    1977 - 81 Chrysler LeBaron
    1982 - 83 Chrysler New Yorker
    1984 - 89 Chrysler 5th Ave
    1977 - 89 Diplomat
    1982 - 89 Plymouth Gran Fury
    Notes:
The A38/AHB police package was only available in the M body Dodge and Plymouth between 1981 (Dodge and LeBaron) and 1982 (Fury), and mid 1989. It was NOT available on the 5th Ave or Diplomat SE.
The 4bbl E48/ELE engine was always optional on the squads, as was the SureGrip rear.
The 3.7 Slant Six was standard on all models through 1983. The 318 2bbl V8 (P,4,or R in the VIN) was standard on all models from 1984 through mid 1989. That engine received hydraulic roller lifters, 302 swirl-port heads, and a Holley 2280/6280 in 1985. 4 bbl cars received a QuadraJet and revised intake the same years. 4bbl heads went from the E58 360ci castings to E48 318 castings (larger cooling ports) in 1983, and the valvetrain remained unchanged through 1989. Better sealing heads in 1986 resulted in a slightly lowered CR, which was made up with significant improvements in timing schedules and fuel mapping in the ECM.
Mid - 1986 saw improved torque convertors in the A998/999 transmissions, along with one of the first known requirements for ATF+ Mopar trans fluid.
1987 saw stainless steel exhaust across the board
1988 saw revised colors, inside and out, and new alternators and engine harnesses. In mid-88, several changes occurred: new radios appeared, tilt wheel and delay wipers were standard, as was the new driver air bag. Revised engine cradles/k-frames were used to eliminate problems on the '86 - early '88 models.
1989 models got a part-throttle torque convertor lockup solenoid, which delayed lockup under heavy throttle.

An acquaintance of mine has a '78 Diplomat 4 door in gray with a silver vinyl roof and about 75K on the odo. The vinyl roof needs to be replaced as well as the headliner. Overall though I'd say it was not in quite as good shape as yours.

A 1980 Dodge Diplomat as my first car. I had so much fun with that car. Got my license right before prom. On prom night ended up hitting a rabbit. I killed the rabbit unfortunately and named the car Thumper in honor of the rabbit. We had so many memories in Thumper. Lots of dates with nice girls, including three that would become my girlfriend, and one of those that would become my wife. That front bench seat could recline so far back and it was like a little bed or something. It was awesome for making out. And the slant 6 engine was totally indestructible. Finally I hit a deer going at 65 miles an hour. It pushed the engine fan and radiator up against the engine. The state trooper said that the car was going to be towed and I said why it will get me home and he laughed and said no way. I hopped in and started it right up and drove forward if you fit in stop. I told him I was driving home. And I got it home. I drove it for about six more months until it finally started having problems and I had to say goodbye. I love that car.

Hahahaha, for some reason I'm thinking EXACTLY like you. There ain't no way I'm gonna make it cross country in that BMW without some sort of issue. Hopefully it just isn't anything major! Thanks man for watching and following along too! -Chris

A strange video, good mind you but things left unsaid like are you friends with Eddy or what, did you lose part of the video as it cut of while your speaking... just strange. It still looks nice and there is a place for four door cars. They can't all be two door hardtops with slap shifters and four hundred horse power.

Hello Chris I really enjoy your videos. I’d love a nice clean 2011 Delaware State Crown Victoria like the one you sold to Frank. Please let me know if your able to help :)

Hey man, I'd like to help you find a nice Crown Vic, but pickings at this auction seem to be getting slim. Not to many really good cars are showing up. There is however an auction this Wednesday that I'll be at and I'll check them out for ya.

Headliner is still not repaired. In Australia that would fail a roadworthy certificate for registration

So you broke even? That means you drove that Fury for 6 months for free! Try renting or leasing a car for six months, see what it will cost ya. Good deal.

Hey man, thanks for checking out the Farewell vid on the Gran Fury. Brotha, there's so many other cars on my bucket-list that I want to get. But today, I''ll be checking out an early '70's Riviera than a Chevy 'box' wagon afterwards. Fingers crossed that they're in decent shape.
