There is something about someone who is committed to making sure they are not the only one who wins! My favorite part is your transparency that it won’t be easy. You have to be committed to bringing your idea to the world regardless of all the possible setback that may come. I’ve read lean startup many times and have used it as a reference or entrepreneurial text book since. The important thing I got from today’s video was the vocabulary and terms for manufacturing. I went to college for business and still didn’t learn this so thank you!
As a black female biz owner especially, I am SOOO grateful for how you never gatekeep Grace. The odds are very much stacked against people like myself but people like you and content like this gives me so much hope. I will never forget when you recommended the lean startup to me (great book) and the MVP point reminds me so much of it. 'If you don't look back and hate your first iteration, you launched too late' is so profound, a lot of us just sit around and wait instead of failing fast and focusing on learning and iterating and getting better. I can’t even tell you how perfect the timing of this series is for me. I launched an agency last year which is going well but I had a serious itch to start a product based business this year and have literally started conceptualising this week!!! Thank you Miss Beverley !!!!! My takeaway from this episode was ‘don’t just settle on one manufacturer straight away’ requesting samples from multiple factories to compare is a huge top tip as the cost of the samples versus cost of proceeding with one supplier without testing others is life changing!!

Omg this episode is so informative and SO IMPORTANT! Manufacturing a product can be so daunting and stressful. Personally I was going to stick with the first manufacturer that I found as I had a really good and smooth transaction with them, but then when it came to asking for certificates and stuff like that they got all icky and started guilt tripping me for not trusting them???? so yeah that was a huge red flag. I love how you mentioned requesting a final production samples as I actually never thought of that! It's something I noted already and I'll make sure to mention in my next production meeting, it can potentially save a lot of money and stress when something doesn't go wrong. I'd love to hear more about negotiating side of things! I feel like it's not talked about a lot, and I can imagine there's a fine line between simple negotiation and being unrealistic, where both me as a business and the manufacturer can gain something and create a good relationship. Also MVP method is great and I love how you mentioned your personal examples because it genuinely makes me feel more heard! At first I was pushing to create the most perfect product but then I started doubting if that's even reasonable, and now I know it's much better to just go with MVP method and test out the idea - I feel like it also builds trust within your customer base when you actually listen to feedback as a brand! What I didn't know/didn't consider was adding clauses, but yes, this is so important as you never know what will happen and it's really important to protect yourself and your business. I literally lay awake last week (the week before my first launch) worrying that if it’s good enough even though I think it is🤣🤞🏼 This video taught me that I can only get better as I go along and see what my customers want and dislike, what works, what doesn’t work etc! As you said, if I don’t look back and hate my first product then I didn’t launch soon enough 😂
What I found the most surprising in this second episode? The MVP method is what surprised me and fascinated me the most, I was so sure that my first drop would be the most perfect and refined version that could possibly be, in order to then immediately hook the costumer. This MVP concept not only opened my eyes but also gave me some kind of relief, because it immediately tackles 2 of my biggest concerns, which were perfectionism as something that could slow me down and ultimately block the process, and also my worry regarding the market. Personally, not having any background in economy and market, I worry a lot about being totally sure of the outcome, but now this method not only will allow me to overcome the "over-perfectionist obstacle", but will also give me the knowledge I need to concretely get familiar and learn from the market as I progress, without the pressure of being perfect the first time. This episode was so precious to me, thank you Grace for this series and for making it accessible for everyone!
Just finished the 2nd video. I knew there is a lot of work to do when creating/launching a business but, I was not aware about how much more you have to do after the product is launch. Things I didn’t know: -Production samples, they can be made different to what was agreed?! I really didn’t know and, it was great to learnt about that, always make sure that what is your vision, remains the same. - Adding clauses to protect yourself and your business, you shouldn’t pay for the suppliers mistakes - Also, creating an audience, doing a pre order. I have been looking at things completely differently and, I am going back to the drawing board but, with this new knowledge, I am very happy to doing so as I feel better equipped. I have been working with factories in my small business for some time and I NEVER knew of (or thought of!) requesting production samples before I have made the final payment! This is SUCH a good idea because my manufacturer even tells me the samples I receive pre-production are made in a different way. Grace once again delivering the golden entrepreneurial nuggets we all need!!
Back in 2012 I came up with a product/business idea. I had no idea how to make it, how to produce, how to make it a reality. A month ago I saw a RUclips video from a channel that interviews entrepreneurs, and this particular video that I watched was a group of three people that came up with the same idea as me, 8 years after, but were able to pursue it. Their company/business is now worth $30 million. I'm not angry or disappointed. The product was not a "passion" of mine, but I was intrigued and energized with the reality that my idea of the product was good and had a market. I have other ideas to which I'm feeling the same, "not sure where to go from concept to next steps". This video has already been so informative for me. This is exactly the time of video and information I wish I had back in 2012. I'm exited to watch the final video of this series and to regularly reference back to them as I pursue this new idea. I started my wellness business last year, having never had my own business before I have found it very overwhelming and confusing. Firstly, all of Grace’s podcasts and products have helped me massively, especially TPM daily planner. My biggest takeaway is that customers are more willing to wait for products that are more on the expensive end. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to up my prices respectfully. I really love how transparent you are with the process and how often it is a lot of trial and error.
What surprised me the most was the idea that you don’t necessarily have to launch a perfect product. I’ve always thought that every detail mattered and that everything needed to be in order at the time of the product launch, without considering that modifications could be made over time. Additionally, I was surprised by the practice of requesting samples from factories, as I had assumed you paid upfront to receive a final version with the factory's touch. I am in the sampling process and had no idea about production samples and I will now be doing this! I wish I had of known as my first run with a manufacturer they made perfect samples but when we received delivery of production it was not only incorrect but also damaged! I lost all of my my saving I had and have started again from scratch with whatever I have left over at the end of each paycheque 😅 Thank you for the information! X
I was so intrigued by the concept of production samples because I’ve never heard of them before but it makes so much sense that you’d be able to check the final product after production and not just hoping or expecting it to be the same as the original sample. Grace - just watched the second video and thank you so much! What I learnt was that: - You always have to continue improving the product along every step of the way, not just from concept or design but all the way to production samples, also who knew that production samples could differ majorly from the pre agreed product from the original samples received ?! - MVP is super important to help feasibility and incorporate feedback. - MOQ - less is more aka don’t order too much always go for MOQ to help cash flow and reduce risk if the product doesn’t sell! Further questions I have: - How do you actually search for the right suppliers in various industries? Is it a quick google search or are there central websites for sourcing suppliers? - Could you do a part 4 video for the actual set up of a company on companies house and other administrative items such as connecting with an accountant, setting up your website / other software etc. Thank you once again 🙏🏻💖

I learned that PDFs can be a good entryway into testing my MVP without having to wait for having the “perfect product”. I’ll be able to get real time insight from my ideal customer giving me space to refine along the way. As simple as this sounds I honestly didn’t think of this and did have the good big or go home mentality, now after actually hearing this I am rethinking my approach. Solid second video - really appreciated the insights. A couple of things that hit home for me: • Having terms in the contract to cover quality and issues? Absolutely taking that forward. • I didn’t even realise there was a first run production sample - super useful to know! A couple of quick questions came to mind: • Have you ever used a third-party inspection company to pass goods through before shipping? If so, is it worth the money in your experience? • Do you have any info on sampling costs across different categories? For example, I imagine footwear would have higher costs due to needing molds for the soles, whereas something like apparel might be lower. Really looking forward to the next one!

I am always constantly putting off launching my own yoga classes due to imposter syndrome and worried about how to gain clients to be able to actually sell my course. As a filipino business owner promoting my own culture is tough despite the constant stigma that I face on a daily. I would like to know regarding prototypes or samples, would you recommend offering my first MVP as a free zoom weekly class or to place at the cheapest price compared to other competitors? Ahh thank you for this video! I have been wanting to start a product based business but have been so overwhelmed about the MVP and finding manufacturers. Also didn't realize there was a different between factories, trading companies, and wholesalers. This has given me such a clearer vision in testing my product before investing so much time and money into it. I've never been so excited for a potential product release that *possibly* be the most aligned with myself of any so far! I'm so excited to check it out! I feel like the MVP approach is so helpful in creating an environment where customers can comment on possible products. My products are created currently by printing by sale, with print on demand. I'd love to switch to having more bulk product or even buying a printer myself for my art, but I'm not there yet but its given me great data for what would sell and what I could depend on buying stock of!

This video really helped me think about how I’m building my business. I think I’m definitely following the MVP method (starting off with mini cafe style pop up, then looking at concession stands in retail before launching the big idea) and evaluating the data along the way. I found the manufacturer process you outlined to be a lot more rigorous than what I have been doing for my packaging. I will spend a bit more time to get it right

Grace! This is legendary 🎉 I have 2 questions please: 1) how should we go about adding terms regarding returning production order if it does not match the sample? This recently happened to me and they accepted the return to fix it but how do I ensure I can always do this incase it happens again? I agree/ sign off an invoice proforma before bulk production but don’t have a specific contract. 2) one of our manufacturers produces the best products exactly how we want them, but they are often weeks late and I find myself constantly checking up on them and feeling like a hassle. Love love looooooove this series, seriously game changing! Can you do a branch of pre-launch for services/apps. Like lessons learned with the shreddy app and retrograde? A lot of this is transferable but what do MVP’s look like for apps and what kind of back and forth is key with developers as opposed to manufacturers, etc.

Another great video. Not sure if you experienced this feeling as well with any of your businesses, but (being a perfectionist) doing the MVP approach has been extremely challenging for me mentally. For context, we are launching an app. It's difficult to put aside perfecting small details in your MVP (such as the colors, fonts, imagery, etc) which can negatively impact development timelines and/or budgets. I'm honestly quite terrified that the MVP may be underwhelming or that I'll feel disappointed with the outcome - so my question would be how do you balance "good enough" with the ability to get conclusive feedback and traction when you pour your heart into something?

My takeaway from this episode was ‘don’t just settle on one manufacturer straight away’ requesting samples from multiple factories to compare is a huge top tip as the cost of the samples versus cost of proceeding with one supplier without testing others is life changing!!

Omg this episode is so informative and SO IMPORTANT! Manufacturing a product can be so daunting and stressful. Personally I was going to stick with the first manufacturer that I found as I had a really good and smooth transaction with them, but then when it came to asking for certificates and stuff like that they got all icky and started guilt tripping me for not trusting them???? so yeah that was a huge red flag.
I love how you mentioned requesting a final production samples as I actually never thought of that! It's something I noted already and I'll make sure to mention in my next production meeting, it can potentially save a lot of money and stress when something doesn't go wrong.
I'd love to hear more about negotiating side of things! I feel like it's not talked about a lot, and I can imagine there's a fine line between simple negotiation and being unrealistic, where both me as a business and the manufacturer can gain something and create a good relationship.
Also MVP method is great and I love how you mentioned your personal examples because it genuinely makes me feel more heard! At first I was pushing to create the most perfect product but then I started doubting if that's even reasonable, and now I know it's much better to just go with MVP method and test out the idea - I feel like it also builds trust within your customer base when you actually listen to feedback as a brand!
What I didn't know/didn't consider was adding clauses, but yes, this is so important as you never know what will happen and it's really important to protect yourself and your business.

I literally lay awake last week (the week before my first launch) worrying that if it’s good enough even though I think it is🤣🤞🏼 This video taught me that I can only get better as I go along and see what my customers want and dislike, what works, what doesn’t work etc! As you said, if I don’t look back and hate my first product then I didn’t launch soon enough 😂
What I found the most surprising in this second episode?
The MVP method is what surprised me and fascinated me the most, I was so sure that my first drop would be the most perfect and refined version that could possibly be, in order to then immediately hook the costumer.
This MVP concept not only opened my eyes but also gave me some kind of relief, because it immediately tackles 2 of my biggest concerns, which were perfectionism as something that could slow me down and ultimately block the process, and also my worry regarding the market.
Personally, not having any background in economy and market, I worry a lot about being totally sure of the outcome, but now this method not only will allow me to overcome the "over-perfectionist obstacle", but will also give me the knowledge I need to concretely get familiar and learn from the market as I progress, without the pressure of being perfect the first time.
This episode was so precious to me, thank you Grace for this series and for making it accessible for everyone!
Just finished the 2nd video. I knew there is a lot of work to do when creating/launching a business but, I was not aware about how much more you have to do after the product is launch.
Things I didn’t know:
-Production samples, they can be made different to what was agreed?! I really didn’t know and, it was great to learnt about that, always make sure that what is your vision, remains the same.
- Adding clauses to protect yourself and your business, you shouldn’t pay for the suppliers mistakes
- Also, creating an audience, doing a pre order.
I have been looking at things completely differently and, I am going back to the drawing board but, with this new knowledge, I am very happy to doing so as I feel better equipped.

I have been working with factories in my small business for some time and I NEVER knew of (or thought of!) requesting production samples before I have made the final payment! This is SUCH a good idea because my manufacturer even tells me the samples I receive pre-production are made in a different way. Grace once again delivering the golden entrepreneurial nuggets we all need!!
Back in 2012 I came up with a product/business idea. I had no idea how to make it, how to produce, how to make it a reality. A month ago I saw a RUclips video from a channel that interviews entrepreneurs, and this particular video that I watched was a group of three people that came up with the same idea as me, 8 years after, but were able to pursue it. Their company/business is now worth $30 million. I'm not angry or disappointed. The product was not a "passion" of mine, but I was intrigued and energized with the reality that my idea of the product was good and had a market. I have other ideas to which I'm feeling the same, "not sure where to go from concept to next steps". This video has already been so informative for me. This is exactly the time of video and information I wish I had back in 2012. I'm exited to watch the final video of this series and to regularly reference back to them as I pursue this new idea. I started my wellness business last year, having never had my own business before I have found it very overwhelming and confusing. Firstly, all of Grace’s podcasts and products have helped me massively, especially TPM daily planner. My biggest takeaway is that customers are more willing to wait for products that are more on the expensive end. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to up my prices respectfully. I really love how transparent you are with the process and how often it is a lot of trial and error.
What surprised me the most was the idea that you don’t necessarily have to launch a perfect product. I’ve always thought that every detail mattered and that everything needed to be in order at the time of the product launch, without considering that modifications could be made over time. Additionally, I was surprised by the practice of requesting samples from factories, as I had assumed you paid upfront to receive a final version with the factory's touch.

I am in the sampling process and had no idea about production samples and I will now be doing this! I wish I had of known as my first run with a manufacturer they made perfect samples but when we received delivery of production it was not only incorrect but also damaged! I lost all of my my saving I had and have started again from scratch with whatever I have left over at the end of each paycheque 😅

What I learnt was that:
- You always have to continue improving the product along every step of the way, not just from concept or design but all the way to production samples, also who knew that production samples could differ majorly from the pre agreed product from the original samples received ?!
- MVP is super important to help feasibility and incorporate feedback.
- MOQ - less is more aka don’t order too much always go for MOQ to help cash flow and reduce risk if the product doesn’t sell!
Further questions I have:
- How do you actually search for the right suppliers in various industries? Is it a quick google search or are there central websites for sourcing suppliers?
- Could you do a part 4 video for the actual set up of a company on companies house and other administrative items such as connecting with an accountant, setting up your website / other software etc.

• Having terms in the contract to cover quality and issues? Absolutely taking that forward.
• I didn’t even realise there was a first run production sample - super useful to know!
A couple of quick questions came to mind:
• Have you ever used a third-party inspection company to pass goods through before shipping? If so, is it worth the money in your experience?
• Do you have any info on sampling costs across different categories? For example, I imagine footwear would have higher costs due to needing molds for the soles, whereas something like apparel might be lower.

I've never been so excited for a potential product release that *possibly* be the most aligned with myself of any so far! I'm so excited to check it out! I feel like the MVP approach is so helpful in creating an environment where customers can comment on possible products. My products are created currently by printing by sale, with print on demand. I'd love to switch to having more bulk product or even buying a printer myself for my art, but I'm not there yet but its given me great data for what would sell and what I could depend on buying stock of!

This video really helped me think about how I’m building my business. I think I’m definitely following the MVP method (starting off with mini cafe style pop up, then looking at concession stands in retail before launching the big idea) and evaluating the data along the way.

It was interesting to learn about the different ways of working with manufacturers; I’ve worked with wholesalers and tried drop shipping but didn’t even consider that there was an alternative to be even more creative and specific with my ‘tech packs’ product specifications.

I’d love to bring it to life, but I’m torn between the thought of needing to keep it confidential and sharing it to validate that it will truly make this style of yoga more accessible for home practitioners-without it being copied too soon. Grace! This is legendary 🎉 I have 2 questions please:
1) how should we go about adding terms regarding returning production order if it does not match the sample? This recently happened to me and they accepted the return to fix it but how do I ensure I can always do this incase it happens again? I agree/ sign off an invoice proforma before bulk production but don’t have a specific contract.
2) one of our manufacturers produces the best products exactly how we want them, but they are often weeks late and I find myself constantly checking up on them and feeling like a hassle. How do I navigate it to set expectations without being pushy and keeping rapport?

Can you do a branch of pre-launch for services/apps. Like lessons learned with the shreddy app and retrograde? A lot of this is transferable but what do MVP’s look like for apps and what kind of back and forth is key with developers as opposed to manufacturers, etc.

Sounds silly now but I would have never considered that a product AFTER having the samples could then arrive not as expected. Could of just saved so many of us ££££££££. xox
This is all fascinating. I'm curious how much of this would apply to a digital product vs. a physical one? Obviously the manufacturing-specific challenges don't exist, but are there different concerns on the digital side? I know you started early days with digital only.
Another great video. Not sure if you experienced this feeling as well with any of your businesses, but (being a perfectionist) doing the MVP approach has been extremely challenging for me mentally. For context, we are launching an app. It's difficult to put aside perfecting small details in your MVP (such as the colors, fonts, imagery, etc) which can negatively impact development timelines and/or budgets. I'm honestly quite terrified that the MVP may be underwhelming or that I'll feel disappointed with the outcome - so my question would be how do you balance "good enough" with the ability to get conclusive feedback and traction when you pour your heart into something?

I’m wondering ir there’s a lot or differencw between an mvp for a physical product / consumer’s good, than a minimum viable product for a service based compant so let’s say an intangible product. I work on education with heavy focus on 21st century soft/transferable skill development and I’m wondering how much difference would you see when launching a course for example?
Im actually building the product myself, but once it is done, what should I do? I'm a little bit stuck in this thought and its doing my product some harm time wise and also other business related matters.

This was great- super interesting! I don't have a product-based business, but honestly, this made me want one. I would love to know if there is a similar pipeline to be mindful of for service-based or digital businesses? Of course, quite a bit of this translates to any business but anything service-specific would be interesting to learn.
I am taking tons of notes and particularly enjoyed the sentiment that the first iteration should provide the maximum amount of learning with the least amount of effort/investment- such a great way of thinking! That mindset will help prevent the procrastination/perfectionism hampster wheel.
