  • This is the story of how Maldives lost its independence to the British, and how we gained it back- the story about a battle of politics and diplomacy, and how Maldives emerged as an independent state following an imposing agreement.

Great job on the documentary! Really raising the standards of Maldivian journalism!
Don’t like how Nasir is portrayed as a martyr though. Perhaps would be good to explore the southern rebellion in a separate documentary or something. The central Male’ government and Nasir were not at all benevolent in how they treated the Maldivian citizens in other islands (especially down south). The ill treatment of the citizens down south by the central government contributed to the gadubadu just as much as the British perks

How the Maldives' decentralized system evolved into a central system, compelling people to depend on a select few influential families in Male'; marking the inception of Male' elitism and forced dependence. The reasons behind the significant migration of people from Addu and Gdh to Male', attempting to maintain the lifestyle they had. Also, the reasons why Addu and Gdh represent the highest migrant population in Male'.
