On movement: players very rarely use keyboard turning but rather use a combination of strafing and holding down the right mouse button to change your facing.
The best part of Guild Wars 2, the MMO RPG that tries to revolutionize the genre is.....platforming. Not because the rest of the game is bad, but because the jumping puzzles are so good.
I would definitely recommend getting to level 10 so you can start your personal story. What you have experienced so far is what is called "Open World" gameplay, and is only really mandatory to get to level 10 and to get some levels in between story chapters. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with sticking it, but it is just one of many ways to gain experience. And yes, you can level by crafting alone, even if its one of the more expensive options. Tips aside, I'd love to see more of your GW2 adventures, if the game pleases you, of course. I've been playing for years, but it is always nice to see a fresh perspective.
Your F1 turns you into the true form of the Necromancer: Death Shroud. You'll have new powerful spells. Also, at lvl 10 you'll learn the ability to weapon swap during combat, therefore you'll have 2 sets of weapon at hand. For example you can mix staff for aoe damage, and axe/focus for single-target damage. These mechanics form the basis of Gw2's combat; I'm sad you seemed to stop the review at lvl 8. Ps. You also get a raptor at lvl 10.
ArenaNet may be very light to nonexistent on the tutorials for a reason other than being lazy. When people figgure out things themselves, they feel more invested. When they feel more invested, of course they're more likely to stay, and create revenue. It's also the thinkers who will be able to absorb everything and really enjoy what GW2 puts on the plate.
Welcome to Tyria even if your visit is brief! For the cooking (or any crafting really), you'll gather the resources in the open world once you have gather tools. You can also buy them from the TP (Trade Post) for in-game currency
The cinematic conversations are a remnant of the core base game from way back in 2012, subsequent improvements in later expansions and the Living Story addons have story conversations play out in the game world or in fully rendered cinematics.
I liked your video, it was well made and informative and now I'm binge watching the series you have made 😁 Guild Wars 2's lack of Tutorial and Guidance is the biggest flaw of GW2. The thing about sideways progression is just personal preference and some hail it the best thing ever (me) and others don't like it at all claiming there is no point playing then. The best thing about GW2 after Engaging Combat is the freedom to tinker and change your build free at any time outside of combat. You can swap weapons which alters your skills. Staff vs Axe/Horn vs Scepter/Focus ... You can swap utility skills which you unlock at level 12 (I think) and they can offer different things You can swap Traits which you unlock at level 21 (I think) to alter your whole build. All those things can be altered outside of combat freely. No extra fee tough you have to own the weapon to swap it 😂 The annoying thing about GW2 is the LFG is a window where you can see what people are Looking For and you can also advertise your own group. lvl 30 you will get mail about first dungeon you can do. Just write "Doing the story first time, everyone welcome" and you should get nice people. You can also join those who say "Story, everyone welcome" and so on. These groups usually are nice tough you can always get unlucky. No automated LFG system in GW2 :
Like probably others here have recommended, I would recommend trying the action camera. Cobbled together by 1 dev in their free time, it does change a lot of things in my opinion: - Aiming feels easier. - Movement while Casting/attacking is simpler. - Left/right (or A/D turn) slow turn are replaced by a quick strafe with the same movement speed as walking forwards. 2:00: What do you use instead of WASD? WASD has the advantage of a close 1 to 5, so you can hit the number skills to quickcast the skills mid-combat. I know you can also change those skills, so in case you put it at the numpad, you could turn 9,7,5,3,1,0,/,*,- and + into the weapon/utility skills?
Yes definitely should try the Action Camera (pressing Left Alt toggles between the camera modes) one of the many reasons GW2 is my favorite mmo, when i found out ff14 didn't have some thing like this i lost interest in the game.
Today I learned that turning the camera without the mouse is really slow. Also, it's not for everyone, but if you go into the keybinds you can bind a key to switch into action camera, it makes the mouse disappear and the camera turns with all mouse moments, just like any other action game. I think it really suits this game better than the default, but each to their own in that regard.
If you decide to continue exploring GW2 I suggest you do the following (if your char is still at lvl 9 or 10 or close to that) 1. Type: /wiki et in chat window, you'll be redirected to the event timers on GW2 wiki 2. Find out when Svanir Shaman event is going to be, wait till that time and get to the place where event takes places 5 minutes before event. This is the lvl 10 world boss for your starting area 3. Take part in the event This way you'll be able to get some taste of GW2 large(r) scale open world events, yes at endgame they are elevated to another level but you'll get some idea. Open world events are one of the strongest sides of GW2, you're not forced to speak or coordinate with other players, just damage the boss so it's "massively multiplayer" on one side but still somewhat solo-friendly meaning you don't need to form a party or type anything in chat, just come and fight.
The movement problem was probably caused by yourself when you changed the keybinds, recently they just changed those settings to remove the strafing by default, so you move more freely, what actually change the gameplay quite alot, other option is to use the action camera, althoug I prefer the normal one.
There is a slider in menu options that allows you to increase the rotation speed. It is under Options->General->Camera->Rotation speed. Hopefully that will work for you.
they story delivery changes in season 2 onward into a far more organic, in-engine conversation system between characters. the bunnies.. LOL yeah back at launch that heart event was on a cliff face, not fun. it is designed to let people organically play together since you don't need to talk to anyone to help them.. once you get mounts that heart goes by in a blink.
Just recently they introduced a "demo version" of the mounts upon reaching level 10 (it is a permanent account wide unlock if you buy the game or any of it's expansions). The mounts in gw2 are considered to be the best in the genre. So, there is a lot of things to test and learn about just two more levels ahead.
Pete, these videos are fantastic. You have a great sense of humor and the delivery of your experiences through these MMOs are both genuinely funny and interesting. Consider me subbed.
Yeah, don't use the keys to turn.. Or you will have a turning radius the size of Canada. Use your mouse. What I do is just hold down the right mouse button as I move the mouse left or right, and you turn immediately.
Lol entertaining watch. Glad ya enjoyed your experience in GW. And though I'd like to see more of that, I have a feeling you're going to be explorib other lands. So good luck to ya there.
idk if u know but there is game camera i think its called, which bind camera with mouse movement, check option need to add key combination to activate...there are also options for ground aoe
Go into settings and turn on action camera mode and set a hotkey to toggle it on and off mine is middle mouse button. THIS WILL COMPLETELY POSITIVELY CHANGE HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME. it turns it into 3rd person shooter
Best things about GW2 for me are the friendly community (excluding pvp, that can get toxic) and how casual friendly it is. You'll definitely want to start practicing moving during combat, it's essential later on. As others have said, keyboard turning is bad, use right mouse button instead.
2:11 This changes later after you finish story of the core game (stuff that was there on launch in 2012) 2:22 use mouse (mouse right button) for turning this will get rid of turning circle you can also try action camera but not everyone likes it so you do you.
I've moved onto FFXIV after playing GW2 for 4 years or so. It didn't hold up in the story or gameplay department for me in the long term, especially after Path of Fire launch, but I had a lot of fun over that time before I decided to leave.
@@ROCKNROLL947 It sounds like you just don't like it lol, and that's fine, but it is the biggest MMO now for a reason. But personally I prefer the depth of GW2s combat, and it's story is.. fine.. its not super deep (like ffxiv) but it has some nice spectacle and really does some crazy things. I play both games on and off now, GW2 scratches my gameplay itch better, but FFXIV provides me a deeper narrative and better social experience.
My problem with Guild Wars 2 as a story is that it's still missing a chunk of story that happened during a limited time event back in it's beginnings known as living world season 1. They are working on it though and a few episodes are out for free already and the rest of it will come sometime this year but til then it's not a complete experience in my mind and then they charge extra for the other seasons kinda understandable with a buy to play model but it still adds 50 something dollars as a hidden cost to see all the story of season 2 to 5.
It's possible to get the other seasons for free as well with ingame gold though. Once you reach level 80 and start branching out to more content, it becomes very easy to make substantial amounts of gold without much trouble. Fractals for example will at Tier 4 (which isn't bad to work up to) net you about 120-140 gold per week just from doing the daily fractals. So in just 2 weeks of daily fractals, you'd have enough gold to get a Living Story season without spending any IRL money. Something with an even easier entry-level is Silverwastes. Any lvl 80 can roll-up and join one of the RIBA farming squads in the LFG. Then just follow the squad. Even without seeking these out, normal gameplay and selling off the materials you earn on the tradepost nets you a good consistent income of gold and allows someone to save-up and get any gemstore stuff they want :)
So far the thing i really miss from season 1 is the Southsun cove part. Everything else is lined up pretty well but slimmed down as you said. As for the rest of the seasons you can buy them with ingame currency as well which means if you do not want to spend real life money you can still get the seasons by exchange ingame gold to gems.
You are products from another age than me the concept of sudo play to earn quite frustrate me when I engage with it trying my best to ignore such features focus at what makes the game good.
I don't like 99% of MMOs out there, but love gw2 because does almost everything differently from what other MMOs, and I love exploration in RPG.
On movement: players very rarely use keyboard turning but rather use a combination of strafing and holding down the right mouse button to change your facing.
On top of this - you can head into the options and keybind a setting called action camera that allows your screen to move with your mouse
Action camera changes the game
ah yis. the keyboard turning is hard to watch :D
Right mouse is almost always held down for me in MMO's
You can even change the sensibility on horizontal mouse movement.

At level 10, you get to try one of the best systems this game is known for... Mounts!
Well, mount (singular). It's just the raptor, and without the masteries, but still, you get to feel the difference of gw2 mounts vs other mmos.
There is a setting in keybinds that you can apply (preferably to your scroll button) called action mode that creates much more fluid movement
Neat tidbit about the Norn male character. They're voiced by Matt Mercer himself.

You can make the turning super fast in the options, there is also an action cam lol I love this game
I highly recommend you to try the action camera, you can set a key to toggle it on and off in the option menu :)

Did you do something different to the voice volume?
It seems a bit quiet compared to the other vids
Yes, I recorded whilst very tired. Probably had an effect on it
@@PeteSmells Got a good tip then:
Dont record tired
You're so wise
gw2 turned into a game of 1 spamming. this includes engame
Did you never use your F1?
I did not
wait...not wasd??!! what do you use?!?!
I will never tell for fear of being shamed
Turning the camera with keys what is this 1995 fix ur binds dude
Nice 🥕🥕🥕
TL;DR Yes, it is worth it.
