Mick Grant on the 750cc Green Meanie…..1977 he broke down in morning practice at Kirk Michael, opposite our house, I was 8 years old…..this Giant of a man in green leathers was stood with a cup of tea in our front door, I was in awe…..he patted me on the head , as he stood and watched the rest of the practice …..I’ve been a Kawasaki fan ever since , 👍🇮🇲🏆
Hilarious, I remember the 70's TT's well, Great laughs, great times.. I watched Mick on the works Kawasaki 750 2-stroke. Ron Haslem was hell fire quick too, And fortunate enough to see Hailwoods return on the Ducati ! & he won ! Thanks for the memories Mick,
Another great podcast, Mick was a great rider. Looking forward to the second part of the podcast ! The last year the TT counted for gp points was 76, Tom Herron won the senior that year.
What trill to see mick grant here him talk .i got his hardback book in the 80s about the tt fabulous thanks only taken till today am 62 gosh thats feels so long ago when i was 18 ❤
Watched Mick at Malloey park one year wen he slid off at the entrance to Garrards bend, As he walked back past us he picked up a large traffic cone, placed it on his head and bowed to the crowd who were shouting sympathetic comments to him! He wore that and waved to the crowd all the way back to the pits. What a great character, First saw him at Croft on his Velocette, he certainly made it fly!!! One of the very best of the era.
I remember Mick Grant at OULTON PARK BRINGING ALONG James Whitam to race in his early days wearing a set of MICKS leathers, i guess because in his early days HE DID NOT HAVE HIS OWN, Jamie was about 8 stone wet thru so plenty of room in Micks leathers but he rode the socks off the bike riding alongside some of the then top riders around I wonder if Mick remembers this happening HOPE SO?? wonderfull memorys.
How good are the stories from the older generation of riders, my era of being a fan, it may seem more glamourous today with the corporate events and money in the sport, but the pure sport and camaraderie of the era is just not there today, the more corporate the TT gets, the more we lose .
Great to listen to I remember that race of the year at mallory when jarno won it was a excellent race I think John cooper was second 1972 it was great times great era, I go with mick on thinking that was the best era.
I remember Mike in 1975 when you took the lap record...I Mr kneale at the grandstand telling his lisnters...just like me that you kawasaki sounded crisp and sharp
What about that picture Dennis ireland what tbrottle stuck open don morley prone on the ground bike went 12 oclock kr 750 omg thank you a hero to me mr grant dream come true so funny he to modest .❤
That's why you can't truly compare the records of Ago vs. Rossi. Ago was allowed to beat up on the lower classes while competing in the 500's. If Rossi had been able to do that, not only would he have OBLITERATED Ago's win total, he would have SEVERAL more championships.
Well, you can't win more than you enter, can you? And Ago won two of his world championships racing against possibly the greatest racer of all time - Mike Hailwood. Got to respect him for that (even if I think he won because his MV was more reliable than Mike's Honda at the time).
when you stop to think ,you didnt just have the track to consider which im sure was as bumpy as fook ,but the possibility of those big 2 strokes seizing up at 180 mph ,gladiators then and the same now ,boxers and motorcycle racers ,everything else is bollox

Please make part two longer than half an hour, could listen to much more of this!
Lovely man. Compelling interview
Proper legend and clever enough to know when to stop and move into other areas of the sport other than actually sitting on a bike.
Micks a very good trials rider still in his 70s

26 seconds in
So funny - working at height scared Mick to hate going to a 'proper job', but doing 180mph along IOM roads never caused him concern.
Get well soon Hutchy....another jab victim?
Yep he is
