    I have to say the game as it is now is a world of difference compared to the recorded game here. Every month a new build (update) comes out and the game is still in raw development stage, but we have a very loyal community with a couple of hundred players.
    This game has again the potential like UT in 1999 to be the biggest `unreal` FPS around with thousands of players and clans!
    Download the game, join the European UT4 community and test some!!!

    I'm amazed how many people can't wrap their head around the term "pre-alpha". Look for how long has the game been in development!
    All graphical assets you see are placeholders. Most models are placeholders. Maps are NOT in their final form. Gameplay is not representing the final game.
    All the complaints about graphics, gameplay and weapon models are absurd.

    Slow like UT3, brings some annoying memories. Hope this will end up more like UT99, speed of the game and everything.

      Sinbad Naiver
      Hey mr naive. If it's on alpha, they already should be honing down the core gameplay. If the gameplay is UT3 and they are "happy" with it, then it's a very bad thing because it's at this stage where the gamestyle must be decided.

    • @ablationer
      @ablationer 10 лет назад +5

      ssbj is right, game speed isn't something that "requires more dev time" it's something that's decided right off the bat even before your guy can move.
      that said, they might change it later if people complain enough that it's too slow, kinda like how d3 got darker after people complained about the rainbows and shit

    • @fluyd9
      @fluyd9 10 лет назад

      No, game speed isn't even movement speed to begin with. And yes it obviously requires dev to test and since everyone is so retarded the whole forum is a loop of the same post content "must b liek ut99 yadahhh".

    • @ablationer
      @ablationer 10 лет назад +1

      alex f
      You're obviously missing the point. It doesn't require any dev time to change player movement speed from say 10 to 18 or something. Jump height, projectile speed, those are all simple numbers that can be changed in a matter of seconds. The fact that they left them that way and keep testing using those settings means they intend to base the whole game off of these specific configurations.

      If the final game doesn't have the dodge + double jump mechanic, I will be seriously disappointed

    • @IgnacioGouk
      @IgnacioGouk 10 лет назад +1

      Not gonna happen, this is UT3...
      inb4 placeholders, I'm not talking about that...

    • @CanIHasThisName
      @CanIHasThisName 10 лет назад

      Matthew Johnson They already talked about double jumps and even explained why they won't be in the game. Essentially, what they said was that double jump doesn't make sense because if it's in the game, it doesn't make sense to not double jump all the time. It's like having weak and strong fire mode with exactly the same fire-rate and ammo consumption. Of course you're going to use the stronger fire mode all the time.

    • @IgnacioGouk
      @IgnacioGouk 10 лет назад

      CanIHasThisName
      That not convince me, that makes the game easier, you can't miss a jump that way, is what they are trying to do, the game easier...

    • @CanIHasThisName
      @CanIHasThisName 10 лет назад

      Pablo Perugino
      Missing a jump? Really? What's so hard about jumping twice?
      If anything, having only one jump makes more room for mistakes: hitting the right timing is harder.

    It's been a long time since I've seen a video from Fatal1ty, and what makes this great is that this is gameplay footage of UT4 in pre alpha. Things look great with the gameplay looking like Unreal Tournament, and I guess this is a good way of keeping up with the things Fatal1ty pushes out. Of course since this is pre alpha, things aren't up to polish yet, but the foundations are there for a playable UT game. Hopefully later on in UT4's development things are expanded on to bring a revival of the arena shooter with high levels of skill.

    People will see the UT3 weapon models, sound effect, etc. and already trash the game without even playing it. UT3 was a good game, and this will hopefully be better. It's better than having no UT at all. No need to hate on the game for no reason. Some people really do love to bitch about nothing.

    • @TomateGranate
      @TomateGranate 10 лет назад

      Why are you so stunned about the guns look? These guns were already used in ut3 and they are probably just placeholders which means that there's no reason for giving the mini-gun an animation because it's gonna be replaced by another weapon anyway. I like that you're so excited about the next ut game. keep it up ;D

    • @needsLITHIUM
      @needsLITHIUM 10 лет назад

      semy28|Gplus sucks and I'm not gonna link my original account with google+ yeah, I like the gun designs from UT3, but my favorite iteration of the game in regards to gameplay was UT2k3. I was far more impressed with the apparent game play mechanics and style than the guns, though the old UT3 skins in the new engine do admittedly look about 3 times as bad ass, lol. appearance and overall art style/vibe play a big role in modern gaming, because immersion is a thing. The visual and game play styles need to mesh well. Also, I get that it is an alpha test, but 90% of the textures being alpha channel is taking that a bit too literally, lol (j/k). The game is far from finished, but when it comes out, I will be playing it :D

    I hope they keep the graphics as smooth as they are right now.
    I don't want the graphics to be bad because there're a lot of people who prefer graphics over gameplay, but one of the things in ut3 which I didn't like was the graphics. They were incredibly good but there was too much eye fuck in there unlike ut2k4 where the graphics were a single delight.

    • @Qtoyghs
      @Qtoyghs 10 лет назад +15

      All the designs in 2004 were delightful. The maps were well crafted and told a story about an interesting arena and the character designs were varied and fascinating. It's what appeals to me so much even today, heck, I just played a deathmatch on Morpheus and Hyperblast on 2004 today.

    • @CorneliusFractogram
      @CorneliusFractogram 10 лет назад +5

      +1 for "eye fuck". UT3 looked shit in all its technical glory. Graphics should never get in the way of the game itself and in UT3 I felt they did.

    • @ROSSNEWHAM
      @ROSSNEWHAM 9 лет назад +2

      This is a problem with alot of modern shooters. Can't see properly because of all the textures and clutter. Ut 3 suffered from this as does csgo. They just need a clean design, sharp but with easy visibility.

    Weapons don't have any animation yet, so it's hard to tell, but does the minigun have windup time? I know it did in the old UTs, but personally I'd prefer if it didn't. The windup just makes it feel so heavy and forced. Like you can't just quickly switch to it to finish off someone trying to escape as you're hit with that windup.

    I just want a time machine to go back and play UT99 and Quake 3 Arena and Tribes 2 back when they first came out and had that fresh community of gamers who brought them to life. Such good times can never be replaced. Everything FPS is either going COD, Battlefail, or some indie junk that uses pixel art and tries to market their game like it is some legendary title. If that is not enough, it is going to be some Free 2 Play title that adds 200 gun DLC that makes you "better" because the developers make the damage and accuracy higher on each weapon that you buy.
    Oh, and I know the game is Pre-Alpha, I am just talking about this because it is youtube.

  • @WinterPwnd
    @WinterPwnd 10 лет назад +5

    Why is everyone so INSANELEY ignorant? You kids have no idea what this is about and keep bitching about the looks of the "textures" "models" and "weapon models". The pre-alpha was to test ENGINE STABILITY and allow people to test their creations directly ingame without having to make a topic, wait for the "devs" to test it and reply back (hopefully within a month) about what they think, this way the guys can test it (since its community made) and share the files directly onto the forum so others can test it as well and if this one thing was done well, it might make it into later game development. This is nowhere close the actual aplha. Alpha version will be after testing has been done and basic models + textures + fuctions have been placed.

      @AndAbel-AOD 10 лет назад

      I'm judging not based on this alpha footage so much as the last 3 terrible UT's(UT2k4 isn't as bad as the other 2 though) They took the series in a cartoony, flashy, cheap looking way with weird looking, disproportioned characters that fly around the map like monkeys. They changed so many little things to appease the Quake audience. Take the IG rifle for example. Instead of it having a solid beam that instantly causes a person to explode they opted for the super thin line a la Q3 rail gun that sort of the penetrates the enemy and then causes the person to explode. This makes it feel different(not in a good way) from the original and its all the little things like this added together that make the previous games a big steaming pile of shit. I still say their best bet is to just remaster the original. They clearly lost whatever sense they had when they made the original. If they go forward with UT4 they need to focus on making the movement original, nuanced, realistic yet stylish. I'm so tired of stiff looking characters that strafe in a super stiff way. I realize that looks aren't everything but I truly believe that if they get the overall vibe of the world right that the good gameplay mechanics will almost naturally become apparent(from a development standpoint) If they understand the right mix between grit and futuristic, keeping realism in mind but not strictly adhering to. The damage, the weapon's and their fire and even the gore will be obvious. The core gameplay is pretty much already done and has been since the original UT.

    • @WinterPwnd
      @WinterPwnd 9 лет назад

      stupaod So you're judging UT3? I don't see how this is related to ut4 at all, they are using the ut3 weapons as placeholders, everything else will differ. They are actually listening to the community so far.

      В чём "осом"-то? Какой-то непонятный мод к UT3 без нормального мувмента (всё какое-то тормозное и прямолинейное), да с пушками, стреляющими искрами во весь экран. Даже модельки пушек из UT3 не меняли, работа над игрой считай не началась ещё.

      Eli Opts, ты в UT3 играл? Я часов 200 наиграл и вот в упор не вижу в сабжевом ролике "осом", потому как кроме режущих глаз и мешающих концентрации на противнике вспышках нахер не нужных спецэффектов отличий от UT3 ровно 0. А, нет, вру, отличия в минус - мувмент тормозной, динамику съели куда-то.

      @TheOptz 10 лет назад

      лол, часикков эдак тыщи под 4 наиграл.

      Я знаю, что только начинают, читал блог эпиков. Даже Артиста по такому случаю на радостях в UT3 затащил (всего на один вечер).
      А недоумение моё вызвано 3 фактами:
      1) Нахрена показывать кому-бы то ни было (кроме 3.5 тестеров) настолько сырой билд, что он даже хуже имеющегося предшественника?
      2) Зачем вытаскивать из чулана старичка Фаталити, у котрого уже суставы скрипят, а тупит и тормозит он так, будто первый раз за шутер сел? Полно молодых именитых ребят с великолепной реакцией в QL, CSGO, BF3 (четвёрка не взлетела ещё, если судить по просмотрам ESL Кёльн).
      3) Чему тут восхищаться? Самому факту начала разработки? Так Кикстартер уже должен был приучить, что громкое начало разработки в 9 из 10 случаев не заканчивается ничем. Даже Питер Мулиньё зафейлил, помниться, игрулю. Вот когда покажут играбельный билд с контентом, можно будет ахать. А пока они показали демку на нгвом движке, куда просто перенесли старые пушки. Целый вечер потратили пять про-девелоперов из Эпиков, wow!

Whilst I'm heavily against them doing any kind of leveling system or persistent weapons like many modern shooters, the idea of custom aesthetics in the form of drops sounds like a good idea to keep people playing, just look how well it worked for games like TF2 and CS. :P

    When I played this game, you have to realize how un-responsive the game was to actual inputs to the game. When I fire, it fire literally 1000ms later or something crazy. Don't give EPIC such a hard time for Pre-Alpha. If you want to see more of my skill, watch ruclips.net/video/KibbuugIQT8/видео.html - PainkilleR had such great responsiveness to shots! I miss that in games. I hate when there is a delay of when I want to shoot. I want to overwhelm my opponent with speed! PainkilleR was the best for this! Also no sniper rifle so you could actually fight as much as you could handle.

    • @RealDavoX

      The problem here is not the looks... I work in the games industry and honestly see no difference between UT3 and this... I know this is alpha, but what's the point if it looks exactly like if you made a concept room in UT3editor and playtested it?.
      I'm not talking about the looks, the mechanics seem to be exactly the same. It almost looks as if you guys aren't doing anything at all, sorry.

      RealDavoX I was wondering the same thing but it seems to have worked for counter-strike but counter-strike has maintained a bigger following all along. If they would just release 99 and 2k4 with better graphics and built in voice chat for teams I bet they'd make more money than trying to please both groups with a new game and it would probably be a lot cheaper.

      what the heck are you talking about, all the material in this "pre alpha" is from UT 3, what should we expect after all these years, a graphic mod for Unreal 3? There's no difference between this and UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3 (2007) at minimum graphics -.-

      lol, people have been playing ut for just as long and the movement flow is still not there. Also, people have been bunny hopping in quake since q2. I really do not see any point to your reply.

    • @cameronpurdie1204

      All the UT games play differently. This one surely plays different than the rest of them, and nobody has mastered the mechanics yet. I disagree that Q3A has more "flow" than Unreal Tournament, aside from the ridiculous bunnyhopping.

      zimThuet I haven't played UT in years, but it seems to me it would be much better to have dodge bound to shift. I'm sure it's possible to do, and if not someone is probably telling them it needs to happen. I remember I hated the double tapping bullshit, and I won't accept it when I start playing this game. I too prefer the quake movement, but I'm hoping Epic can do something interesting with their movement system, they still have lots of time. Besides, we don't have many options in the Arena Shooter genre atm (other than hoping a few indie games turn out good).

      Do you guys also hate the "double tapping bullshit" of opening an icon on your desktop? It's not hard to double tap, this is like computing 101. If you find double-tap dodging to be challenging your are simply a bad player.

    wow, I made one of the earlier comments, and it was vastly misinterpreted due to the troves of ignorance that comprised the other comments made by other people afterwards, as well as those directly before... pre alpha, people. it's basically just a general map layout/engine test, as several other commenters were all to eager to point out... they wouldn't have to keep reiterating that same point if people weren't all to eager to not have a brain... then again, this is youtube comments, which is only a few steps above the internet's armpit (if you know that to which I refer, good for you :P want a cookie?)

      Early stages in game development is where the gameplay core is decided at. This seems like Epic want to stay in the UT3 gameplay department :/ If you don't complain now, then it's later on already gonna be too late because Epic has locked down the gameplay. Once stuff is locked down, they aren't gonna change it since they got so far in the development. So this is why it's essential to bring up the flaws of Unreal Tournament 2014 at this stage already.

  • @KackBratze001
    @KackBratze001 10 лет назад

    What the game really needs is higher speeds ... for the projectiles! Rockets need to be used to hit directly on target like a projectile, not for the splash damage. Link gun primary needs speed to be usable to all. Biogun the same. Shock rifle secondary perhaps too, with some other nerf to counter imba shombos.
    Projectiles need to work directly, be themselves, not for an extra effect. Otherwise Link will forever be useless.

    Unreal was always different from Quake, because of different strafe jump system and movement system u need to spam strafe all the time, maybe this is the weakest part of it - idk. But always nice to see something new and i hope this time its gonna be better...

    Looks like the movement is as high gravity and limited as UT3.
    UT2003/2004 allowed you to do more with just character movement which I think is a big part for why it had such a long living community and a core game that supports many maps, mods, and game modes.
    This looks like UT3 which died off pretty quickly and was my personal biggest game purchase regret to this day.
    Also projectiles seem to fly pretty slow. I don't like where this is going...

    Epic pretty much burnt all bridges with UT3, if they want to be taken serious at all again its them alone that has to step up on the platter and SHOW it this time around.
    Instead of the hot air they where spweing and heavy censoring they did back then.

    Dear people who have never seen a development cycle: this is Pre-Alpha. Nothing is done. Shit breaks. This is not UT3. This is not UT4 (yet).
    Graphics are as basic as possible because textures are constantly changed and broken because nothing is done.
    Weapons are placement weapons or weapons from UT3 because shit breaks and the new models aren't done.
    Gameplay is slow because the design for the new game is not done, needs to be tested, and will break and break and need tweaks and break and tweaks until they are acceptable. They will then be tweaked, broken, and tweaked again for the next 1-2 years.
    Maps are simplistic because they are not done and may be broken by broken textures and other tools that were not done when the map was added.
    If you don't understand this explanation in it's simplest form: You don't deserve to complain about any bugs that arise in the later development cycle, because you didn't understand what went into causing them, nor what will have to be done to fix them. You also should fuck off and just wait for open-beta, so you can complain about lag when you have dial-up.
    Thank you for your attention..now take your ass back to playing COD.

    This looks slower than UT3, unless it's the FOV or Fat's style. Very mixed feelings about this. It's like UT3's engine trying to emulate UT99, but the scale of the maps, all the assets they're using, and the weapons themselves look highly reminiscent of UT3. I know this is an early stage of development but I hope they sort their shit out.

    • @Harkz0r
      @Harkz0r 9 лет назад

      Well, I've played it some and I must say that it feels a lot better in practice than it actually looks. I quite like the feel of the gameplay though it'll take some getting used to coming from 2k4 which is a lot more hitscan dominant. Funny to see how uncomfortable Fat looks with the movement though - I guess UT2k3 was quite some time ago!

    I miss the more rugged ancient Roman type armor in a gritty modern setting and less of the flashiness that UT has become known for. Its all cartoony with lame movement animations(UT had THE best movement of any shooter that hasn't been topped IMO) It was as if they tried to make a UT/Q3 hybrid instead of a true UT game. I have a feeling this new one will be more of the same. They just don't seem to understand what made the first one great. I wish they would just remaster the original so it would be more compatible with newer hardware(including mice) custom crosshairs for every weapon, graphical upgrade while keeping the original gameplay physics etc. Don't make it flashy, make it gritty(graphically). Lots of hud options ETC Make sure you release the proper amount of information(source I guess?) so that Anti-Cheat can be implemented so its not completely ruined by cheaters a la UT3. UT4 should have realistically proportioned character models. Example of what I mean by "gritty". The sniper rifle could look like a more old fashioned realistic rifle(similar to the original) You can render it well(I hope you do) but it doesn't have to be some super high tech flashy, super colourful, alien, cartoon looking thing. The overall vibe should be like a bleak, unprosperous, desolate future, almost steampunk but not. Some maps could even seem like they are falling apart with lifts/elevators that stutter and shift with a grinding sound and sparks as they rise because they are falling apart.
