Beautiful message. My wife died 20 years ago at 46 from lung cancer 6 weeks after diagnosis. Healthy non smoker. Our Daughter was only 9. I cried so much all the time and didn’t give a fuck who saw. I’m a tough guy born and raised in Brooklyn NY but could not bear seeing my wife suffer. My Daughter is the only thing that kept me from ending it. Raised her alone and now she’s a beautiful 29 year old woman. I never found another mate but still hopeful. I was never ashamed to express my emotions in front of people
Real men show their emotions. I've lost alot of friends during the military and after and recently along with my wife and step daughter. All I have left is my 3 sons . We're not okay but it's all gonna be alright but I still let it out everyday

Since the beginning of COVID-19, I started drinking heavily. Being alone and separated from people had a major impact on me after my GF left me for another man. I never drank hardly anything before COVID-19. I drank over 180 half-gallons of Bourbon within 12 to 18 months. As a result, I now have permanent nerve damage in my hands. I used to be an artist, but now I cannot draw anymore. I never knew alcohol could do that. Sometimes I would wake up on the floor naked and lying in my own vomit. I blacked out sometimes for days. I went to rehab and was clean for 2 years. I started drinking again a few months ago. As a result, I am losing my job where I have worked for 23 years. This song really hits home. Jelly Roll spoke directly to me with this song. Currently, I don't know what to do except to pray as I am about to lose everything.
I may or may not be able to speak for some men out there. I know I got extremely good at hiding my depression throughout high school and in my early 20's that no one knew. Eventually it got to the point where I just stayed in my room and it felt like there was this hole in my chest. I got to where the sign on the road said "Road Ends Here" and rather than taking the next step I plugged up the hole and decided I was done feeling that way after a while. I think that's why I try to occupy my mind for every minute of every day that I'm awake because if I stop and think too long about it, my life hasn't turned out the way I wanted. However, I am taking the steps to make my life a little brighter and hopefully over time the feeling of disappointment will be nothing but a memory.

The last person who told me to "man up" while dealing with depression, suicide thoughts and MS at the same time eventually ended up taking his own life., may he rest in peace... If only he opened up a little more instead of "manning up" then maybe his 2 daughters and wife still had their loved one!
I myself am still breaking down some of my own walls in order to get the help I need, but tearing down the walls is something I need to do myself.
It's okay to have a shield to protect you but building up walls will isolate you.
Can we stop telling people that being vulnerable is wrong and being open makes you weak? Being open is the first step to getting help when you lost your way. Pretending you are okay, putting up walls and suppressing your demons will always backfire when it becomes too much.
Told my whole life to "suck it up" "don't cry" "be a man" "handle your business" it took me almost 17 years to finally tell my friends and family I was diagnosed, with clinical depression. Talking about it makes it easier to continue and process how I'm feeling. I am now almost 6 years off medication and working through my daily struggles.
*very long sad sigh* You know how bad this year has been for me Ash....god its been so hard....so goddamn hard...this hit so hard. Im definitely not okay but I truly hope I will be soon. Thank you so much Ashley my sweet friend for keeping me here. *hugs*

I have alot of days where I overthink,have anxiety,depressed and think im going to actually happy but I always turn to God knowing he knows me and gives me the strength to get through anything in life. I attend church with my grandma every Sunday

Its GRUM here, I have a song I wrote called Surrender on sound cloud,I sound like band T00L its just me on guitar but its sounds like a whole band because of the emotion in it, I went trough a wind shield at 65 mph in my early 20's, I don't play much anymore due to my neck problems, my guitar is the only thing that saved me back then, the doctors were no help/ simular to rens story. I'm 52 now and I can't stand doctors.

Hi Ash. I think a good mental health song that I love I'd Fear Campaign by Fear Factory. Now it's specific to outside fears but it def shows what the fears can do to a person.
