What’s with the dolphin sounds?
@@alanross7694 thats a swearword-censor
There'a just a lot of dolphins in those parts of the woods.
@@mcmcgregor65 Thanks for the clarification. I should have been able to figure that out!
You gotta come ride in Arkansas, some of the best riding in the south
Phil has been making BANGERS in 2021 and seems like a happier guy. I remember he had asked us to critique his channel earlier in the year, and he's been bringing 🔥🔥🔥 ever since!!!
Thank you Topspot! :)
@@SkillsWithPhil Thank YOU Phil. Big inspiration and you make my day a better one everytime you upload 👌
@@SkillsWithPhil No thank YOU. Agree with TOPSPOT... these last few videos have been top notch!! Keep up the great work brotha!!
You guys and Seth are killing it. 🤘🏻
@@karicallegra8194 the one at Mountain Creek was insane. If you've ridden there you know how steep and technical that is ... I've been there at least a dozen times and didn't even know half those trails existed, and Phil was just bombing them.
Phil is about the only RUclipsr that I can watch an entire video of GoPro footage. It's so satisfying to watch him ride that fast and smooth in less than ideal conditions. I almost feel like watching his videos makes me faster through digital osmosis or something.
I love how Phill is just hopping at 6:55 waiting for him to move 😂
The GT designers were smart for putting the Force logo on the top tube where it's visible during POV footage
Dam, Phil always rides with the confidence of someone who has never crashed before. Gives me sweaty hands just watching this but i love it.
It’s the confidence of someone who’s had every type of crash and is in complete control of the bike- he’s on another level of skill compared to nearly anyone.
@@BikingWIthPanda stevie died riding a motorcycle tho???
Phil is so underrated when talking about RUclipsrs I’m sure he has helped you learn skills and put out content for us to be entertained by, this blokes a legend.
I've been watching your stuff for a week now, almost all the videos. For me this is like meditation, I'm sure it's nothing like that for most people. However there is a specific type of tranquility that I get from watching the beautiful scenery combined with the speed, I don't ride myself but I imagine that the freedom one feels going down these trails is amazing.
Love the work, cheer from Sweden
Alex is not a slow rider, how fast you close the gap is amazing.
Single track has superb memory! A walking single track encyclopedia or a rather a riding encyclopedia.
That 2nd lap was epic!! All that speed..
Phill is like a surgeon and cut thru lines with such a sharp precision 👏👏
Only one thing better than hearing your laugh...it's hearing Alex laugh with you. :)
So sick! And this speed on the leave’s…just crazy🤙🏻
Classic MTB POV. Seems odd to say it was 'old school' since MTB RUclips is less than a decade old, but that was old school and I loved it. Good stuff fellas.
What a place to ride... Beautiful autumn colours
This is what I wanna see! The Sampler and Phil ride together!
Two of my favourite mountain bikers sending it, love it !
I've been enjoying these videos almost as much as you guys I think :)
That lighting + the foliage is amazing!
You guys coming in from Asheville always miss the third downhill, Paint Mountain. From the top, descend to the southwest on Paint Mountain trail down to the French Broad. Turn left and ride about a mile then climb the Chimney Rock trail. that takes you to the awesome overlook and the beginning of the second downhill you did, Paint Rock trail. I agree with Phil about the northern downhill, Paint Creek trail. You do it once for the views and the cliff edge tech, then stick with south side in the future. Speaking of cliff edge tech, I was looking forward to seeing how Phil handled it, but much of that part doesn't seem to have made the cut. I know that section Alex was going on about, and dude that scares me, but you smoothed it!
Cause they know that next climb back up from Weaver's bend SUCKS!
I'm no rider. I have a yard-sale Mongoose that hasn't been touched in a few years. I'm 46, have bad shoulders, heart palpitations, a touch of asthma and half of my left Achilles tendon. But I like crazy speed and the twisting through the woods kind of stuff. So whether it's rally cars, rock-bouncers, quad-copters, dirt bikes quads or mountain bikes, if it's fast and insane, I dig it.
Seeing this makes me wish I could rewind the clock and get into this stuff from my teens. But I grew up in Kansas, so no hills to bomb or woods to shred. I just had small-town streets and bumpy sidewalks, and the occasional ramp my friends & I built out of cinder-blocks & plywood. Probably the craziest thing I have done on a bike was when we had the plywood, but nothing to prop it on. So we took turns being the ramp ourselves. Yeah We'd lie down and put the 4X8 sheet of 1 inch plywood on our backs. the others would come flying down the "hill" (more like the gentle slope of the sidewalk in front of my house) as fast as we could, and hit the ramp with one of us under it. The only two rules: Don't brake, and don't go slow. It wasn't bad being the ramp. I felt a little push, but the 4 ft wide plywood spread the weight out mainly across the shoulders and butt. My mildly obese friend going over didn't even bother me. But he did make the best ramp though. Little bit higher and just a tad of "spring". Yeah we were crazy teens. But damn I miss it, and wish I would have stayed interested in bicycling, especially now since I live in Pennsylvania now, and there are a lot of places one could ride. Nothing I have seen as well maintained or extreme as this, but better than what I had growing up in the flatlands of Kansas.
Totally agree with you on the Crankbrothers shoes! I wanted to like them so much because of the fit and boa system but I almost died multiple times because of the lack of grip compared to Five-tens
That was super sick! The leaves hiding the topography made your speed all the more impressive! Great video, gents!
I feel the same about the crank bros. Was a bit disappointed after I got them. Been using them on my easy rides and I think they're just now up to par due to all the little holes that have cut them up and softened them.
1:02 As someone who grew up in NH, people often say "Aren't you used to the cold?". My response is, "You can spend 20 years getting kicked in the shin every day and you'll get used to it. but you won't enjoy it..."
That is why I moved south.
Aren’t you in Colorado ?
@@gaberomero1740
Isn't Colorado a desert?
Felt the speed through those fallen leaves. Whew.
Phil you are the real mvp. Thanks for the videos this year. Had a baby in June and haven’t been able to go ride at all really. You’re videos make me feel like I’m still out there. Appreciate you brother
Hey, exact same situation here. April baby so I got a few rides pulling him in a carrier before temps dropped. Have really been appreciating all the trail videos from all of the youtubers.
Phil you finally hit 500k subs!!! CONGRATS!!!
Phil's view of climbing, a man of my own heart.
I was scared just watching! A lot of that would be doable for me, but not anywhere near the speeds you were rocking. Keep it up! (And stay safe)
Every time I watch your videos I have to double check to make sure it's not in 1.5x replay speed. Crazy dude.
That is some speed there man. Much respect and love from Cornwall in the UK
Hahahah Phil. I am a Vermont escapee. Folks around here will say "you should be used to the cold!!". Nope. I tell them I EARNED my scorn for it!
Love watching your RUclips videos Phil. We all knew you were good, but WOW....your skills are without a doubt, the NEXT LEVEL we all dream of having on a mountain bike. To be honest, I'd be lost trying to ride through all those leaves, but you ride down them like a knife through hot butter....very smooth. With that said, it was awesome seeing the past few of your videos with your fellow RUclipsr Mountain Biker friends (Alex and Seth.)
wooow, amazing place and you are really fast! 💪
I subscribe to a lot of MTB channels but Phil is definitely my favorite. Great content and I genuinely like his style! Skills w Phil is my fav.
Hope I get a chance to cross paths (or trails?) with him someday.
ive been running the same shoes for a couple of months and so far absolutely love how they feel and grip my pedals
My 2 favorites MTB RUclipsrs! thank you for riding
7:10 I love tight, techy, exposed switchbacks. I lived in Chamonix Mont-Blanc for quite a few years and half the turns are like but narrower and fewer leaves. That's why I prefer a 27.5" as they're more manoeuvrable in those situations.
Sick Riding Dudes!! Love ti see you two back!!
So great to see you back in western NC flying downhill. Classic Phil!
Man that last trail looks awesome! Looks like it could rival some of the highspeed runs I rode recently out west even!
Alex, and Phil!!! sick!!! Gawd Phil, slow down dude! LOL I can't see a firkin thing, still going 100 mph. hahaha!
I was scared when you yeeted the Bike at 8:29 , cause thee Go-Pro was too low to see the rhododendron branches :D
Really cool little moment there.
Awesome video Phil! Love to see someone representing true east coast!
So much good riding in the East!
Yess
Place looks fun great vid man 🤘
I wish i could ride 1/4 as fast as Phil. Makes it look so easy
From one Phil to another, your vids are sick!! Really great riding matey, I don't know how you ride with balls so big!! 🤣🤣✌🏻
Phil you should ride Slate Valley Trails or as its called around here SVT sometime next year. Its in Poultney Vermont there are some really cool trails there. SVT is also my local trail system and I have to say that Hunker Down is one of the best trails on SVT. Hunker down is pretty flowy with some sick rolls and drops. I got a pinch flat in 4 places from one of the rolls because I was being dumb lol.
I ride put there few times a month. You know what's terrifying? Popular equestrian spot, Horses go up that last trail. I've only had positive encounters, but it's worth noting because of how fast that rip is
Yeah, that’s pretty reckless going that fast on a multi-use trail, especially since it’s hard to stop/turn with all those leaves.
Way to rally, Phil. for the tricky section!
Love when you 2 ride together! Great video!
Alex video of this ride really showed just how fast Phil was. Pretty awesome stuff.
That 2nd lap looked hella fun 🤩
Definitely a case of the whole being better than the sum of the parts . In this case the parts were already superb. Great work guys :)
Phil please go to windham bike park the jumps are so freakin huge. It would be really cool seeing you do the uci pro downhill trail.
Man that speed with such a hard trail to read. Very exciting and stressful watch, haha
Thanks for a great ride.
What a great mtb channel 10/10
I’d love to see some tips and or footage of leaf surfing on your bike. It absolutely blows my mind how you ride through those leaves. Where do you find traction?
Your recent videos have been excellent!
“I’m not about putting constant effort” finally someone who understands me. I get it! I totally get it. Life lesson in there as well. 😉
Every time I watch one of Phil’s video it makes me want to immediately grab my bike and go shred a trail lol
Oh yes
I think you'd like Oregon Phil. 4-5k feet of descending on some trails and good shuttle options limiting the climbing to a 1k feet or so.
I always enjoy your vids bro. Thank so much for putting your real self out there, always. You are the genuine article.
Quick question Phil, do the Etnies run smal or LG etc. Are they the same size as your CB BOA shoes? I totally agree with you about the CB shoes. Really wanted them to work but they always make me a bit nervous and move too much in chunk. Keep shredding & posting. Living vicariously through your POV is humbling. 🤟
Awesome 🤙🔥 Nice 2 see you two "sampling" 👌
Sick trail sick raiders !! Dude please whats the shoes you mention !! Thks keep it on !!
Those views look amazing!
You have to give the CB shoes some time to break in I thought the same thing when I bought them but I'm 2 months in now and it's the best shoe I've used so far. I also use the stamp pedals.
Great video , makes me want to go ride right now!
The absolute anxiety I get from the sound of those leaves is crazy!
You each dressed to match the other one's bike. If I didn't know better I would think it's intentional :D
Awesome vid Phil!! Thanks!! ✌🏽
What a great adventure you guys rock!
I'm from mass and living in Asheville for 4 years now, I'm such a wimp when it comes to the cold
11:05 wow what a view!
Did anyone else just find it so funny on that climb when Alex didn't make it a Phil is just hopping right behind him, waiting to go and Alex doesn't even realize but Phil is so courteous he just waits till alex moves. that had me crackin up
8:21 good thing you didn’t hit that booter! You would’ve ran into the down tree on the trail! 🥵🤯
Tells him that it's wide open, and Phil was like light speed it is then
Great ride boys! This is such a fun area to ride in. So many great trails!
What trail was the second descent? I want to ride that
@@peterlang5047 I'm honestly not sure, but yeah it looks sick.
So you're trying out new shoes. What's your favorite so far? Have you tried any Ride Concepts? I'm pretty new to this and they are the first specific shoe I've had. I got the Sam Pilgrim sig yellow ones and love them.
Ride concept were the first alternatives to five-ten that i really liked and i was on a set that didn't even have the tackiest rubber. They are one of the best shoes on the market.
I've also tried unparalleled shoes which had great grip but the sole was super flimsy and your foot would get really tired.
Awesome! Thanks for the reply. Yeah I am super impressed with the RCs for even an all around shoe. I have found myself wearing them more and more as my everyday shoe and they are holding up great! Love your videos man! Keep em coming!
pokemon cards))). I remember those, thanks Phil for reminding me how old i am
Phil "prepare to make the jump to lightspeed" Kmetz
Absolutely hate riding in the leaves, even if its my usual loop. ONLY good thing is that the leaves are off and you can see ahead better without the foliage. Lesser ridden trails are the worst as minimal traffic doesn't ride off the leaves at all. Anyway, killer ride!
Leaf surfing... I've been doing it every year for 30 years and each time I feel like a noob...
Any idea when Alex will post a video?
Probably not this year!
When you used to race pro, did u ride clips? And also you don’t ride clips now right?
just unbeliebable.
What grips do you have on your bike. Looking for new more comfortable grips. thanks
I love the paint creek area!
Phil, you're my goto MTB youtuber. What's the possibility of getting some data on speed and descent rate? That would put some serious "dolphin sound" to the content. Thanks for doing what you do.
sad that those two hikers didn't know they were passing two legends of the mtb community
does anybody else experience blurry image on the videos on this channel? when i am watching the image gets blurry for about 2 seconds every 6-8 seconds
love the Etnies review!!
Getting the bike over deadfall technique "with Phil".
What is the name of this trail? I live somewhat close to paint creek and did not know this was here.
great ride as always
Love your videos!
Since you don't like to climb, when will we see you on the GT E bike ?
You going to the new Vee Hollow trails in Townsend Tn?
Not this trip, but I will eventually. :)
Hey so I have a backyard mtb trail and I don’t know if I should build a rock garden or rollers what do you think
I'm kind of old school but imo rock gardens are found, not built. Its hard to mimic natural line choice and they always feel awkward when man made.
@@SkillsWithPhil ok good to know so do you think I should build rollers
@@SkillsWithPhil I know you probably won’t see it but the video of me building the first part of the trail is on my RUclips channel
i was wondering wat hapend to the Singletrack Sampler?
