I have wanted to go with a silent instant hub, but the thought (and sometimes talked about) chance of pedal kickback has me hesitant... I remember riding an old Jamis Bam years ago that a buddy had, and it suffered really bad from pedal kickback in rock gardens and even when landing jumps to flat....It was a very unsettling feeling :/ Thanks for your help :)

The tricky part about making youtube videos is that people are impatient and won't hesitate to click onto another video. I try to find the balance between giving context to the ride, and moving the story along.
Love the vids. I'm a little surprised how often (it seems) that Phil has to tighten his thru-axles. Is this due to how tech and steep the riding is - higher disc brake ejection forces and more vibration/flex in frame/fork. I'm a much tamer (less skilled/more chicken) XC guy who likes some tech so I don't know how common it is to need to tighten wheels mid-ride. I'm also riding on QR wheels and don't have thru-axles. Thoughts?
When traveling I take my front wheel off to fit it in the car. Sometimes I don't snug the axle down quite enough and it loosens up enough. Since I always carry a multitool it's not an issue.
I wish i went tuesday to meet you. I'm riding there next tuesday. I live an hour away, towards Trois-Rivieres. If you have a chance to explore, check out Mont SM near Shawinigan. It's a super well built park, about 1.5 hour from SDM. Enjoy your stay in Québec.

@Internet Person yes not being allowed at many bike parks sucks but also a lot of not lift bike parks don't really have anyone checking and there are a good chunk that do allow them. They are also quite expensive but gt bikes, his sponsor, may be able to send him one.
Pretty much everything is like this in Quebec.. probably on the east coast of usa too. We don't have fireroads like in BC thank god!! They have insane downhill trails but I would certainly need an ebike to go up for so long, on a boring road! I would need more motivation to go biking.. or some chairlift even if I ''hate'' those. lol
phil did you drive up to Quebec? are they still wanting pass ports. i have heard for a while that they are but when i asked when i crossed like 4 years ago they said only for flying you need it. im in NH so thats not to far for me
Maybe pre 9/11 you could travel to Canada without a passport but I can't ever remember not needing a passport to get into quebec. Obviously you can get an enhanced drivers licenses or a passport card, but those are basically still a passport.
@@SkillsWithPhil thanks I was curious. i have passed many times without a passport. not so much in recent years. I have been to Canada a ton, you know norther NH snowmobile country. I am only 38 so i never been before 911 and also never had a passport in my life. i would snowmobile across and passport was never a issue. they would ask and i would say i dont have it. they never gave me a fuss. i have been to Montreal many times as well to party and we would drive. we would go all the time when i was 18 in 2003 because we could drink up there and go to the bars and strip clubs. also Sherbrooke for that as well, but not since 2018. i always said i dont have a passport and i gave them my license and insurance info and that was good enough. coming back sometimes the US would fuss about it but they never left us stranded in CA, Also if we went thru the road way on the NH boarder car would never be a issue truck or SUV they would get the dogs every time. also make us wait inside take out ids and background check. often on snowmobile as well. I have had friends turned around cause they had previous DWI. CA dont let drunk drivers in without special note like a death in family stuff like that. i haven't been in a few years tho. most of my trips across on car or truck was in my 20s. my friend last told me they would not let him pass last year on snowmobile. i have never gone thru the Vermont boarder tho. i have been to that town that's half in Vermont and CA. thanks for answering me.
@@incredible5587 We didn't need a passport before 9/11 but since that, we always needed one to go to USA! Maybe they let you in here but I'm pretty sure you needed one...anyway you need one to go back for sure! If you can have one, I would buy it, its probably like between 50 and 150$ for 10 years? I really don't know for you but anyway not that expensive if you go outside usa from time to time. If you cannot have one, that's another story. lol The story you heard about flying is maybe for the covid vaccine?

Makes sense. Thank you and keep up the good work.@@SkillsWithPhil
What a rock solid brave girl! Lock this one down!
Hi phil i leave to the Quebec and i like a mont. It is bromont a really good montain for DH
I've raced the quebec cup there many years ago. Very cool place indeed
i got nervous watching you on the rocks and skinnies!
some of those slabs on the climb looked perfect in place, was that concrete mix or just granite?
That's bedrock dude
what gears do these guys stay in just a low one?
you got hops on those stone structures.
is the Santa Cruz Chameleon a good beginner bike?
02:45 Now you got me curious because I also work in (kind of) a lab. What exactly does she do?
The TLDR is that she's a Lab Manager and doing research on lung cancer. But in reality she wears a ton of different hats from mentoring students rotating through the lab, to animal lab tech, to bench work, and beyond. She's impressively good at learning new things unprompted and time management.
@@SkillsWithPhil OKAY!!! That's just a galaxy beyond my lab.
She's one helluva woman. Don't you dare ever let her go!
If your into technical climbs but not the fitness side on the way up you should get an ebike. They are amazing.
