I tried the Hobonichi Weeks in 2019 but fell off after a few months. I’ve wanted to try again but didn’t want to waste more paper and money so in September, I pulled out some white out and just re-dated the 2019 planner. It was so wonderfully pressure free and I spent three months figuring out what worked for me. It has given me the confidence to buy a new weeks now and I’ve already started using it. I really appreciate videos like this that talk through the psychology of planning. Looking forward to watching more of your videos
These are all great reminders. I think any RUclips channel can have the problem of "if I'm not buying new stuff, what will I be able to talk about?" - some interests more-so than others, but it's a very common problem. BUT I think watching people on their no-spend years, seeing how they're doing each month, how they're using or repurposing items they bought previously, is much more interesting than the home-shopping-channel style videos.
Don’t be scared… I’ll be watching you BECAUSE of the no spend! I’ve unsubscribed from quite a lot of RUclipsrs lately because of the constant buying and hauls and just general over consumerism. I’m all for people changing and trying, but sometimes it just feels gross, like the changes are happening because something is new, not because of a need or a want…millions of set up videos with zero consistency to see how anything actually works or is used… good luck with your no spend, I’m excited to watch it unfold and see how it boosts your creativity by using what you already have.
Thank you so much! It’s gotten to a point where enough is really enough. So many things I’ve never used, it’s overwhelming! I’m scared, but also excited!! Thanks for being part of the adventure!
@@samplans well thank YOU for the content!!! It'll be nice to see how you use things up, I'm sure it'll be a great exercise in creativity! I'm on a no spend too and am only spending to replace empty items. Also I've promised myself that if I stay in my beloved rings system for 6 months I'll treat myself to a new cover in June 😬
Can't speak for everyone, but I watch your channel specifically because you prioritize using your planner and not chasing trends. So I'll keep coming back all next year :)
Thank you! I have definitely caught a trend here or there, if I really thought it would be for me, but I generally gristle at trends (overall) in life. I was one of two without bangs in high school. I didn’t want to do what everyone else was doing. 😂 Individualism!
@@samplans When trends work for you, that's just luck and a good time to stock up on things you'll use for a long time! I've never been one for trends for the sake of trends, either. (Apparently my mom kept getting mistaken for a substitute teacher in high school since she had short hair when all the other girls had long, then grew her hair out the summer everyone else cut theirs!)
I’m with you! 2024 will be a “no spend” year for me too and I’m determined to stay in one planner for the entire year. I think it will be really nice to have everything in one place and not have to remember where I wrote what notes.
Yes!! I want to have that loved on, lived in planner that weathered all the storms with me! I also REALLY want to use up all of the items I’ve spent money on through the years! Good luck!
I haven't really planner hopped but boy was the temptation & time spent thinking if what planner to choose for next year been real... I'm just sticking to the tried & true for me. Not waste more time on thinking of a new planner that could've been spent on doing something more positive. As far as stationery & planner supplies, I'm right there w/you. Stationery has always been a weakness but I too want to get thru what I have.
Hi Sam, I have really been dealing with mental health problems for about 3 years now and planners are causing me to feel anxiety right now that I hope you understand…I think you do…I think about what planners to use for so much of my day that it frightens me. I have been physically trying to remove myself from YT to help myself regain a little sanity. I won’t tell, you what I bought because I already feel ashamed enough. I love your videos and please keep making them. You are helping me so you must be helping many more of us who got stuck in the planner quicksand. ❤
I love planner chats like this, probably because I’m eternally having them with myself in my head! Regarding things that haven’t worked in the past, I try to hang on to one example of each planner or system that hasn’t worked for me, so when I suddenly get the itch to try it again, I can pull the old one out and hold it and walk around with it and remind myself why it didn’t work out. Thanks for your fun and insightful content, I’m always happy to see you’ve posted a new video.
I will come watch your channel even when you go on a no-buy because I appreciate ideas about how to use the planner you have, and because the constant buying stresses me out so not seeing constant new purchases is reassuring 😊
first off i love planner chats so these are some of my faves haha anyways thank you for mentioning the mental health aspect because I've also seen a huge connection between my state of mind and current mental health with my relationship to my planners and journals. and understanding that I should give myself a few days before going into a spiral and buying a million new planner related things.
Yes! How many times I’ve been in a bad state mentally, searched far and wide for the “perfect planner”, stayed up late ordering all the things and regret it all in the morning. Sigh. I just don’t want to do it anymore!
My planner really does reflect my mental health! I have anxiety and depression too and somehow I always end up thinking a new planner is somehow making life easier...
Although I keep trying out new planners all the time, I can’t ever find one that fixes my anxiety and stress and depression and ADHD, but for some reason, I seem to keep trying! I feel like I’m on a quest for a planner to do all of the above (and maybe the dishes and laundry, too). In the meantime, 2023 is drawing to a close, and I’m realizing all of my important information for the year is strewn among a dozen or more planners and I can’t find anything I need. Definitely not letting myself get into that same dark hole next year.
These are all such great ideas and tips! I feel like the planner hopping I've seen this past few months, amongst "planner peeps" have been exhausting, and such money traps! That being said I too have struggled to find what will work for me for 2024....I think I found it finally, but only time will tell. I am definitely on a no...or maybe low spend for next year, I am truly just coveting a Sailor Pro Gear Slim pen, and that is it. 😁 Loved this video Sam!
BEST comment in the video: "... but not at the cost of your individualism." That's the real key to contentment - finding what works for you regardless of what the others are all using or how many times you need to make adjustments within your system.
who's going to come and watch you channel? Me! :) This is the video that made me subscribe. Thank you for exploring mental health and the adverse effect of trends!
Hi Sam. Long time subscriber. I have enjoyed your videos during your leather and non-leather and everything in between. After watching your videos, I think about the actions I have taken over the years and still trying to figure it out. The main thing is to use something. For me, if it is not noted in my planner, it does not get done and often forgotten. Which is not a good thing.
Guilty as charged! I have tried rings. I spent way too much money just to figure out that loose pauper planners don’t work for me. Welllll, recently I considered hopping back into rings. I took out all of my rings materials and started setting it up. It took me about 8 seconds to remind myself, lady you hate this stuff. Put this stuff away. So that is what I did. 😂
It's so true. I got started watching Helen from TCMC and I've always admired her work ethic and consistency in her planner. Then i started watching other planners and it's night and day. Buying every size of planner from W222, SI, Hobonichi hauls, papertess....etc. Its like the planner shopping network. 😂 Lucky for me i only like 68 gsm TRP, so i wasn't tempted by any planners. Got one take a note planner. But i already have quite a few 18 month planners in already using. Planner youtubers buying planners for the sake of buying planners and schedule their social media around planners where their to do lists are planner related is not work. It's the same for tech tubers. We were made to create, to uplift and use our gifts in our work.
I think we are going to see you be creative this year and we will all enjoy seeing that creativity. I am a Cousins planner and that is it. My planner and journaling. I am 6th year in and love it. My dump is a A5 Stology and I am beginning my 4th year in it. Nice to be able to see the history in it. You will do great in your simplicity, and we are here to back you up.
I agree with looking at what's going on that's prompting you to want to change. I don't planner hop a lot, but I tend to rotate through a few different planners throughout the year, depending on what's going on at work and in my life (usually related to the amount and type of information that I need to be tracking). I probably end up re-evaluating once a quarter or so. But I've figured out what works for me given certain circumstances over the years, so it's nice to have a smoother transition between systems because I have an idea of what is probably going to work for me based on past experience. If I'm experiencing planner boredom with a system that works, I try to change up the cover of my planner and that tends to work. (Again, rotating through what I already own most of the time.)
Yes! I mostly bounce between bound and rings. I think I know what works best for me now, so it’s just about being okay with those moments of boredom. I don’t need to buy anything, time to get creative!
Good luck with your low buy! I've changed my mind on my system for 2024 a few times, but what I think is helping me out is that I started building habits mid November and then ordered stuff later. I want to use my quarterly spreads for habits? Better start habit tracking. I want a new notebook just for daily journalling? Well, I have plenty of daily pages left, let's see if I actually journal. The fact that I've managed to stay so consistent is really pumping me up
I have done something very similar! I sucked at journaling this year so I’ve challenged myself to use the A6 Hobo daily, and I have. I figured if I failed, I’d have an untouched one to at least sell. Good job!
RE: Filofax. When I won my first case in 2011, I bought a leather A5 in Lilac and one in Malden Brown. Even now, they're both so classic and if I wanted to, I could clean them up throw in some new inserts and that's all I'd need, but I did love the deep dives into the Hobonichi world and what I loved the most were the beautiful covers. That to me was so unique. I'm looking for unique, well-crafted things regardless if they're on trend. The fandoms. Hobbies are full of them and I appreciate the fervor, but then I read the comments on other platforms and people say that they've stopped watching their favorite Planners because it's "planner season" and that left a bad taste with me because they're right. A lot of mindless consumption, then inevitable planner hopping. Such a waste of resources. $$$ Just wanted to echo your love for Filofaxes and rings setups. It is always Classic and I've been eyeing two personal zipper for wallets because I'd like to go back to doing the cash envelope thing that worked so well for me years ago. Excited to start spending less and getting some control over the budget.
Your channel is awesome!!! Ever since that social media planner community video you made earlier this year, I feel like you say what's on my mind also, and continuie to keep saying what we think. I feel there is so much consumerism in the community, that we sometimes forget what planning is actually about... I don't think you have to worry about the no-buy (I'm doing one too this year :D), because I think we'll all be interested in what wisdom you have about planner hopping and consumerism and maybe your no-buy. You rock, thanks for the awesome video!
I REALLY appreciated this video Sam! I've got my 2024 Hobo Mega Weeks all set up (I too stay in my planner through the end of December) and I'm sticking to it all year. In terms of my mental health, it definitely ebbs and flows according to how much I'm in my planner and actually doing the things I write I'm going to do. I'm realizing that I tend to hop away from planning at all when life is life-ing and adulting becomes too much. And the money thing when it comes to planning is so real! I jumped on the planner bandwagon because I really do love pen and paper. But now that I've gained more perspective, I'd rather redirect any play funds towards my real love which is knitting and crocheting. And while I know that hobby can be speedy too, I plan to be much more intentional about slow making, taking the time to savor and enjoy the process. Also, I would LOVE to tag along on your no-spend year journey! I'd TOTALLY still love your planning channel if it contained less stuff. 💖🐻
Thank you! Oddly enough, I REALLY want to start crocheting. Just bought some supplies on Friday actually for a *very* small project. I told myself I’ll have to keep that in check too, or it will cause me to spend just as much as the planners do!
I really appreciated your take on this! I don’t planner hop, just stick to what I know. I did try a pocket rings last year that lasted about 3/4 months before I realized I was writing things down twice, not worth it. I find having one planned system and a backup notebook to be all I need. Simplicity is nice! Just depends on what you want really.
So refreshing to see a video stressing utilization of what you have and old familiar tools. As I see other videos of the next big shiny trend, I find myself thinking that I don't want my planner to look like everyone else's.
I love this!! I talked about this recently on my podcast. Especially the “stress” when choosing next years planner in freaking June!! My God lol. I have been a whole year in one planner girl for years now and my friends are always so surprised. I’ll keep watching cause I love that you keep it real!!
Hi Sam, I will watch your videos because I enjoy listening to your voice. It will be nice to see you use up what you already have on this upcoming no buy year. I am a functional planner and not at all involved in the planner community other than watching your YT videos. I am looking forward to watching you streamline your planners and shopping your stash. 💗
I've never had a problem with staying in one planner for the year, I've changed systems over the years - moleskine, passport tn, and now a Hobonichi weeks. I think where I spice things up throughout the year is with my bullet journal/commonplace book, this can be whatever book takes my interest at the time and the layout and mediums change. I am not a big consumer of supplies either, I know what I use and I stick with that. I will still watch your videos next year Sam, I would rather not watch haul videos
This is what I have had to continually remind myself, rings don't work for me, as much as they would solve the handful of things I don't like about my bound notebook, I would just be trading THOSE issues with the ones I always have with rings. So, to remind myself again: - I can not write on the lefthand page in rings, I just hate it. - the endless options of inserts and sections causes me to change my setup too often and I end up not having what I need when I need it too often. I have tried and tried in the past to make rings work for me, I know they don't, I don't know why they are so tempting for me! I have everything I need for my 2024 a6 bullet journal set up, double the amount actually, and it worked for me ALL YEAR LONG this year. I will stick with what works for me, that is my mantra! ❤ thanks for the reminder! 🫂
Sometimes when im struggling with any system I’ve implemented I try to ask myself what is working instead of what isn’t working and that can be helpful for me to figure out what I really need to change or if I need to change anything at all. I think your boredom perspective happens more than people realize.
I am trying to use one planner for my budget planning book planning so I just use my old happy planner and add planner pages….i can’t afford 6 or 10 planners ! Why have so many just don’t understand?
Awesome video; I too am one of those people who sees a nice system that works for somebody else, and go and buy it (afford it or not) ; and usually end up not using it…uugh.
Every time I’m panicking over my system now (perfectionism makes my consumerism run rampant), I just keep repeating to myself that “it’s literally just paper”, and that seems to calm down the dread lol.
Yes absolutely! I think my biggest issue is planner boredom - I need to figure out a way to deal with planner boredom. Maybe there are some good youtube videos about it. I'm about to start a Depth Year and I chose to go with the Traveler's Notebook planners, but allll the Hobonichi hype has me wanting a Hon. But then I reminded myself that if the TN TRULY isn't working, I can buy a HON when they release their spring collection.
That’s a great point! I got an A6 Hon…just in case of boredom, but I’d like to find something to do with it. I’ve got a couple of ideas but haven’t settled on one just yet, other than it wouldn’t be a “planner”. But you can definitely hop on the spring start if the TN doesn’t work!
@@samplans I like the TN because the system is actually really flexible - just add a different insert - but I do like hobonichi a lot. I was thinking of the A6 because my TN planner is a weekly, but I LOVE the way the hobonichi techo sets up their dailies with the timeline and check list.
"...If I don't buy stationery, who will watch my videos??" ME! I WILL WATCH YOUR VIDEOS! I've been on a no-spend spree for TWO YEARS, I promised myself I wouldn't buy anything I already have at home, and it lasted for two years. I just purchased a hybrid planner for 2024, and that's the first thing since. Please make videos on staying on track with goals, integrating the individual steps into the weekly plan, share progress (possible setbacks?) Share how your planning evolves in different planners/ journals you're using through the year. Share mistakes and lessons learned, and what worked.
SO agree with you! Especially relate to the “rings have never worked for me” example of someone on your comments you brought up-I did try out rings in the past and never stayed in them for longer than a few weeks, so I’m just looking at the current rings trend, waving from the sidelines. That said, I did create both a Pocket and a Personal-sized spread of the weekly layout I’m currently using in my HoboWeeks, but I knew it was just to play around for a little bit. Didn’t even fill out my Personal-sized mock-up spread. Creating it already scratched the itch for me. Going to use a HoboWeeks as my planner for 2024 and a Cousin/A5 HON as my journal. That’s it. (Well, it is not because I’ve got notebooks I use as a book log and as an ink journal, but it’s not like I use them every day, and I only start new ones once they’re full, regardless of what the year is.)
Okay, so how do you use a Weeks and a Cousin? I bought and sold one. I think the Cousin would be great as a journal, but the Weeks layout works for my planner. I have no use for the Cousin weekly pages. I REALLY wish they made a cousin with just the tracker pages, months and days!
@@samplans Weeks as a planner: I divide the left page into appointments and day-specific tasks and add a small column for the weather on the right page. On the top right, I have a section where I track my work hours and on the bottom right, I note down tasks that are not day-specific. I've got a little bit of space in this section, so I put down a sticker to make the spread look nice. The back pages are for work-related trackers and work notes. It is mostly a work planner, but I note down my private appointments as well. If I don't put all of my appointments in one place, I will start forgetting and missing some, so I don't separate them. The weekly layout I described is sort of a simplified version of the Weekly Notebook from PaperTess Designs, which inspired me to divide my Weeks in that way. The monthlies are for high-level appointments and birthdays, but I will say I'm not a monthly planner. I'm someone who lives in weeklies. Cousin as a journal: Memory-keeping in the weekly spreads (including noting down with a vertical line how much time an appointment or meeting actually took). I'm coming from using vertical weekly layouts for planning, so this comes quite natural to me, and I like having an overview of what happened in a week. Dailies: One section for a daily summary of what I did that day (I've been writing these pretty consistently in different planners since January 1st of 2021), one section of thoughts on the day, one sections for washi stickers and/or photos. I've been doing the exact same things in the weeklies of my B6 Common Planner and two A6 Hobonichis this year, so I'm pretty positive I will be able to tackle the Cousin as my journal in 2024. When I first tried out a Cousin Avec in 2021, I was still figuring things out and hadn't yet been used to journalling daily, so I was hopelessly overwhelmed with all the space the Cousin had. That's why I sold the second half of my Avec in 2021. But I believe I am in a different place and have a better plan for using it in 2024, so I'm positive I won't be overwhelmed this time. Oh, as for the monthlies ... no idea. But these are just a few pages in a huge planner, so I wouldn't be too bothered if they stayed blank.
Thank you for your pure honesty with it comes to this. I don't use to be "IN" on my IG feed or o my channel here. Like you I use what and when that fits me. I do have a more solid plan of what ones for which 'thing" like My first time ever in a Hobo Weeks that book is so stinking cute and shorter than I thought it would be. Meaning I thought it was longer (well on YT videos it looks that way LOL) - The weeks for my health and IF I get in the grad program then I will use it for school. Hobo EVAC - Art journaling, a TN size from Notebook Therapy for my monthly journaling until I finish and an A5 for my Everything Journal. I ready for a No spend 2024 - Thus the reason I am designing my own stickers I want to use in my journals. I am here for what ever you decide to share in 2024 Gen Xers unite.
Although I’ve seen some folks hopping just because it’s trendy - most of the planner peeps I see changing to the trendy planners are those looking for views and likes. They do it for content and follows. But there are of course peeps that have been hopping this year. But I think most aren’t changing because of trends and trying to be on the trend or even fomo. Often it’s because their system isn’t working and they haven’t taken the time to figure out what they need to find the right fit. So they throw everything at it to see what sticks. And sometimes it’s because they’re bored. But I think most of the times it’s because they genuinely love paper and want to make something work but it’s not really the right fit. And a lot too its because they aren’t changing/modifying their system/layouts when their life needs have changed which often happens seasonally. They don’t know how to modify their system without moving to something else completely. When sometimes changing the layout some, your decor (or lack there of) and how you use the planner can really make a difference when you need something else at that moment bc of your season or because you are bored.
It’s interesting you bought up mental health. The second I feel myself sink into a depressive episode and or shut down I want to change my planner because it’s a distraction and gives me something I can control. Going to try really hard not to do it this year!!
Yes yes yes! I’ve talked about that a lot! The feeling I can control a situation seems to calm me (in the moment). Then when I come out of it and look at the information I’ve missed…it causes more stress! Good luck!
Great video! I enjoy planner YT videos, but it does not make me do planner hopping. I need one planner that keeps me on track. I am adding a Hobonichi Weeks for 2024 for my purse. The A5 is too big and bulky for my purse, so I want to try the HW for events and appointments. I will take notes, but they will go in my A5 rings when I get home. I print my inserts in MS Publisher and make tweaks as needed. I keep only one month of dailies in my planner. I probably spend very little compared to most on my planners, but because I print my own inserts, I can try different things at a low cost.
Very insightful. Thank you for sharing. My issue with planners is that they are all pretty much the same and follow Hobonichi like ducklings following the mother duck. So, how can I expect the RUclips planner gurus to come up with something unique and novel? Forgive me. I am sounding way more critical that I mean to. I really appreciate all of the time and effort it takes to put these videos together. My issue isn't with the Planning Gurus out there, it is with the publishers.
SAM YOU ROCK!! Everything you said is so true! This will be the 1st year without my weeks... I think I outgrew it and just got bored and didn't really use it! Although I did buy the VDS cover for it and now I'm having major FOMO 🤣 I did go ahead and buy the sterling Ink version and well, I hate to say it but I'm totally not sold. However it looks GREAT in the cover! You know how I feel about rings so I won't even go there lol! And it's been 3years in a wonderland 22! I think I definitely found my Planner peace with that! With my Stalogy, good thing they're undated hahah! Yup I went back to my Leuchtturm 120gf for anything Fun ie TV/ Movies. Book Club reads and all around art stuff! (Not that I don't try and make all my planners pretty, if that's what you can call mine) 🤣 You're the reason I always come back to watching planner video's! Your Honesty and Candor are the Heart warming Big Hug ♥
Thanks, friend!! I wish the W222 was horizontal. I love the tracking pages, snd the planner otherwise. I was sooo close to getting the A5 this year, and then didn’t. Don’t let me think about it again. 😂
It occured to me that you wouldn't hear me if I said "archive" out loud. You should watch Florida Girl Plan's video (the 1st one) for what she's doing next, year. She talks about talking herself down from purchasing a Hobo Techo Han "because she doesn't need it" or any other of the typical planners. She has ADHD. She also talks about being unapologetic about planner hopping. Her planning style is very different, slightly mess (she's a self described "hot mess"), but functional for her needs. But watching her video, you definitely won't feel alone.
I think it's ok to planner hop when you are trying to find what works for you. At least for me. Some people just like to change or get bored. I used rings in college and maybe a year after then, I switched to a cheap notebook. I wanted more structure so my personal planning went from Nanami Cafe Notes B6 slim to Jibun techo days to A6 Hobonichi to finally Hobonichi Weeks. Going in year 3 in a weeks but did switch from Hobonichi to Sterling Ink weeks. Still in a Weeks. I used an A5 Hobonichi Day Free for work and loved it even though i ran out of pages. I binded a plain notebook to it for more pages. Following the year, I knew i wouldn't need as many pages, so the day free would still work. But i watched RUclips on the Take A Note and hop to that. Love it and plan to stick with it.
Oh, I absolutely understand planner boredom! Since I’ve already made a few purchases for 2024 I’m going to keep what I have left so that I have something to move into for days I just feel like it. I’ve been intrigued by the TAN!
@@samplans I don't like vertical planning even though the TAN is one. I think because it's a week on 4 pages, it doesn’t feel the same. I I ever leave it, it would be back to a day free.
I absolutely love you because this video is what’s in my mind! I think we really have to separate the people who plan as a hobby from the people who plan to actually keep their life in order. I think the hobby planners are the ones doing the planner hopping and following trends. Nothing wrong with it, if that’s your thing. You just have to do a self-check and see if it’s harming your day-to-day functioning. I totally feel you on the personal rings trend. I have seen people completely change up what has been working for them because a certain person changed what they use. They literally only use whatever this person is using at the moment. I’m waiting for the Plotter to be the next trend, even though it’s been around for years. 🫣 So I feel like the main question to ask is what your reason for planning is. Is it just a creative hobby or do you really want to organize your life? Great video, Sam! 🥰
I feel like my planner(s) are both. I try to find something very functional that doesn’t have to be nice looking in the slightest…and pair it with something that I love to look through. It doesn’t have to be artsy, but I do want it to be neat. The Weeks has become that for me. And I fully believe that someone can introduce a planner, and after watching them use it, you can see how that system can benefit yourself, but changing each and every time they do (anyone, including me) just seems…odd to me. But if that’s what someone wants to do, go for it! This was just me talking out all of the pitfalls I’ve observed in myself, and those I’ve seen in my comment section. Planning should help us, not make us more stressed!
I’m glad you gave the Weeks another try! Enjoy it!
Thank you! Even though I’m not much for hauls, I feared I could stay relevant. You’ve made me feel better about my challenge!
I love the planner chats.i stepped away from watching many planners videos because of the “consumerism” aspect. I'm glad I found you again.
I don’t watch a lot of planner videos for the same reason. 😅 But IG gets me with the gorgeous photos. Thanks for watching!
Yes! I do the same thing with failed planners! Sometimes I just have to get this stuff out of my head!
I will come watch your channel even when you go on a no-buy because I appreciate ideas about how to use the planner you have, and because the constant buying stresses me out so not seeing constant new purchases is reassuring 😊
It stresses me out too! I’ve often hopped from one to another, but I’m tired of doing that too. I want to be consistent!
first off i love planner chats so these are some of my faves haha anyways thank you for mentioning the mental health aspect because I've also seen a huge connection between my state of mind and current mental health with my relationship to my planners and journals. and understanding that I should give myself a few days before going into a spiral and buying a million new planner related things.
Yes! How many times I’ve been in a bad state mentally, searched far and wide for the “perfect planner”, stayed up late ordering all the things and regret it all in the morning. Sigh. I just don’t want to do it anymore!
I really needed to hear this this planner season! There's too much noise out there and we need to stay focused!
Yes we certainly do! Thank you!
My planner really does reflect my mental health! I have anxiety and depression too and somehow I always end up thinking a new planner is somehow making life easier...
Yes yes yes. But it never does. 😂
Thanks, friend! I think that’s a great thing to splurge on!
BEST comment in the video: "... but not at the cost of your individualism."
That's the real key to contentment - finding what works for you regardless of what the others are all using or how many times you need to make adjustments within your system.
It’s definitely the heart of the matter. If you need to adjust your system, it’s perfectly fine to do so. But only if it’s true to you!
@@samplans 100% !!
who's going to come and watch you channel? Me! :) This is the video that made me subscribe. Thank you for exploring mental health and the adverse effect of trends!
Thank you so much!
I'm doing the same thing in 2024! I'm going on a low buy or a no-buy.
Lucky for me i only like 68 gsm TRP, so i wasn't tempted by any planners.
A reply to Erica, but it became a stand-alone. Oops
Oh I LOVE Helen! You are right, she has the best worth ethic out there! I absolutely adore her consistency as well.
"We were made to create, to uplift and use our gifts in our work. @michelleadams5609 I agree with you.
Thank you!
Good job!
Hey Sam! I wish you all the best! 🎉 I wish you had a podcast. I love listening to your planner chats.
Thank you so much, you are very kind. 🫶🏻
Just wanted to echo your love for Filofaxes and rings setups. It is always Classic and I've been eyeing two personal zipper for wallets because I'd like to go back to doing the cash envelope thing that worked so well for me years ago. Excited to start spending less and getting some control over the budget.
Yes! Rings are very classic! Right now I’m not in mine, but I know that may change next week. Always a fabulous planning system!
Thank you so much. ❤️ I’m excited for this challenge!
I loved hearing this perspective. Thank you for sharing the very message most of us need to hear. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Funny you should mention that…😅 I’ll be sharing what I’ve been doing soon. ❤️
this content is my fave and i am excited *because of* the no spend year!!!
So refreshing to see a video stressing utilization of what you have and old familiar tools. As I see other videos of the next big shiny trend, I find myself thinking that I don't want my planner to look like everyone else's.
And I don’t either, thank you!
I love this!! I talked about this recently on my podcast. Especially the “stress” when choosing next years planner in freaking June!! My God lol. I have been a whole year in one planner girl for years now and my friends are always so surprised. I’ll keep watching cause I love that you keep it real!!
Can you share your podcast if allowed
Hi Sam, I will watch your videos because I enjoy listening to your voice. It will be nice to see you use up what you already have on this upcoming no buy year. I am a functional planner and not at all involved in the planner community other than watching your YT videos. I am looking forward to watching you streamline your planners and shopping your stash. 💗
Thank you! It’s scary (because shopping…😅) but I’m also excited!
I actually stopped watching some RUclips channels because of the constant changing and buying new, it made me more anxious watching it too.
Love! !!! Your channel and your view on the planners/planner community. Very refreshing!
Thank you!
I feel like I don’t really do hauls, but what I DO do is say it’s okay to buy new planners because…channel research and all that. 😅
This is what I have had to continually remind myself, rings don't work for me, as much as they would solve the handful of things I don't like about my bound notebook, I would just be trading THOSE issues with the ones I always have with rings. So, to remind myself again:
- I can not write on the lefthand page in rings, I just hate it.
Sounds like rings are out for you-no matter the trend!!
Sometimes when im struggling with any system I’ve implemented I try to ask myself what is working instead of what isn’t working and that can be helpful for me to figure out what I really need to change or if I need to change anything at all. I think your boredom perspective happens more than people realize.
Yes! Boredom is a real problem!
I am trying to use one planner for my budget planning book planning so I just use my old happy planner and add planner pages….i can’t afford 6 or 10 planners ! Why have so many just don’t understand?
Even if you could afford them, if they aren’t needed…but each person is different I guess.
This is an excellent video Sam…thank you I’m sure it will help many 💕
Awesome video; I too am one of those people who sees a nice system that works for somebody else, and go and buy it (afford it or not) ; and usually end up not using it…uugh.
Very well said! Thank you for your insight!
Every time I’m panicking over my system now (perfectionism makes my consumerism run rampant), I just keep repeating to myself that “it’s literally just paper”, and that seems to calm down the dread lol.
Love your content! I listen while I’m playing with my planners!
Thank you! I do the same when I watch, or listen, to videos!
16:14 This is such a great idea that will save people a lot of money
"...If I don't buy stationery, who will watch my videos??"
ME!
I will note all of these requests! Congratulations to you on your two years!
Yes Yes Yes!! Planner chaos and trends and money spent trying to force something. Thank you 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Thanks for watching!
Im looking forward to your no spend 😂 I want to do a low buy 😊
I’ve waffled. First it was a no buy, then it was a low buy, but it really has to be a no buy. Here we go. 😅
I agree with all of that. I just wanted to put some things to think of first, before you buy it all!
@@samplans definitely a good idea and always love watching/listening to your videos! Loving your nails too
It’s interesting you bought up mental health.
Good luck!
@@samplans yes!!! I can absolutely relate to that! That’s interesting you do it too, glad I’m not the only one! 😂
Excellent points, I’m loving these vids!
Glad you like them! 🤎
Thanks for your insight. I enjoyed the video
Thank you!
Yes Ma’am.
I would LOVE to learn to make my own inserts. I’ve tried to figure out very simple things, and failed. 😅
Great video! ❤
I feel like I’m the only person that knows exactly what they’re doing for their 2024 planner system 😂
I know what mine is!!
me, too! no changes.
I’m with you! Same thing I used this year!
LOL. Me watching this as I'm thinking about hopping on the next planner trend.
Well let me know if you do! 🤓
PMDD is a monster 😮 I definitely know how that feels. 😖
Planning Gurus?? No. You're giving them way too much credit.
Many of us are not into trends, either. You do you, madam 😘
Loved this video! Thank you!

(Not that I don't try and make all my planners pretty, if that's what you can call mine) 🤣
You're the reason I always come back to watching planner video's!

😂😂😂 I couldn’t, but thank you for trying!
❤ wuv u sammmmm
Ummm you’re wrong your planner stack is beautiful lol
Well, thanks. ❤️
By the way as for the REST of the video I found it spot on and same here going to try a no spend or very low spend for 2024.
@lesakenner8844 good luck on the no/low spend!
@@samplans Thanks you too!
Archive !?
Yep! 😂
Planning should help us, not make us more stressed!
great video, I am sure this will help many
Thank you!
