Last year I started my planner journey and I wasn’t happy with it. It was soporific but the layout I was using didn’t work. I started in January with compact size Blooms 2 pages per day Franklin Planner in my beautiful croc embossed Moterm that I bought when I started my planner journey. My life has never been better! One planner does it all for me… work, personal, everything. I even keep track of my husband in it. I feel like I’m a machine in my everyday life and I just bought the archive folder for it too so I can keep my pages and reference when I need jt. I recommend Franklin to everyone now. I also use a mechanical pencil in it so I can erase and adjust when needed. Way better than a pen.
You remind me of myself over 25 years ago. I used Franklin Planner DO2P as well. Somehow I've jumped off track with the explosion of paper planner awareness and I am so disorganized. I had to share this, because I keep thinking, hmmm, maybe I should go back to where I started, and that was with the Franklin Planner system. I kept the same binder cover, did not decorate, kept with the tasks at hand, and was very productive. Little did I know that I was in pure bliss then.
My husband tells me I’m so “all or nothing”, like in my brain, I’m totally crushing it or a complete failure. He tries to help me shift out of this thinking, but it’s so hard. I don’t think you are failing with the different planners. I remember in another video you said that when you feel like things are out of control, you love to have the change in planner to give you something you can completely control while you are setting it up. That’s not a bad thing! It’s a coping mechanism. So when you see different planners, just honor yourself and say look at me being so flexible and able to cope with the changes life throws at me! (I know, I know.) Perimenopause is so hard. I felt like I was going crazy. I’ve made it thru now and I feel so much better. The good news is it doesn’t last forever. As for a book rec, I really liked I Remember You (a ghost story) by Yrsa Sigurdardottir. I can’t remember if there are any curse words, but if there are I don’t think they are prevalent. I also liked The Watchers by A.M. Shine. I think that one is being adapted into an M Night Shyamalan movie this summer. Both have creepy vibes!
Yes, it is a coping mechanism for me, but I feel like in the moment I don’t realize that, even though I KNOW it. I’ll write your recommendations down, if a book has cursing, I won’t die, but I don’t like it sprinkled every other sentence and I really don’t like a bunch of sexy stuff. I don’t need help in that department. 😅 I am like you, my black and white thinking may hurt me-what if planner peace is actually a grey area?
@@samplans Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed I Remember You! I’m excited for the M Night movie too. I love his stuff! I hope you enjoy it as well!! I think he’s the perfect director for it for sure.
I was a bujo planner for about 6 years and I LOVED it. It allowed me the flexibility of creating a different setup for what my life was needing. I also hated that. There were lots and lots of weeks that were so crazy that setting up something was just that one more thing that I did not need in my life. For one year, I kinda did a bujo/ TN hybrid system. That never gelled. So, last year, I left and went to discs. I loved the flexibility--in theory--that if I had a week that I needed to grab a pre-printed insert, I could, and (again, in theory) I could then design other layouts that I printed or drew (a la a bujo), but that didn't work out because pre-printed always came with the previous/ next week on the back so I was constantly wasting. Same with the cutting out of my designs. And I never drew a layout in the discs. It just seemed like a waste of time since I had pre-printed pages AND had spent hours creating that perfect layout on Canva. But, I hated discs. They should be perfect for me. I don't have to redo permanent lists/ collections every new quarter/ year. I get to purchase or design inserts for how my life is going and (in theory) switch out as needed. But the papers kept coming off of the discs. The cover would pop off. It just did not hold up well in my bag. So, my last ditch was to buy a cover and I found a great cover. It just added so much bulk. I love the A5 size because it fits in my purses without taking up all of the space. It comes out easily in meetings without screaming "look at me; I'm a giant planner." It allows for writing as much or as little as I want and as BIG as I want. I have always been a big writer, but as I age and my eye doctor still can't figure out how to make me see "right," I need bigger print to see what they heck is going on. The disc cover (just like back in the TN attempt) just added too much bulk and created a first world inefficiency that was just cumbersome enough that I stopped using my planner. I would set up the week and never look at it again. So, for 4/1, I decided to force a hybrid kind of moment: I bought a Clever Fox pre--printed planner from Amazon. It has notes pages in the back for some of my needed on-the-go lists/ collections. It has a "as close as I have found" weekly layout that meets my needs and I can do as much as I need with regards to decorating and it still be functional. I am a job-seeker and a small business owner. If I find a job and/ or my business grows, I know that I will probably go back to the typical bujo. I just like the flexibility too much. I know in my head that I should be accepting that as my life ebbs and flows, my planning needs and the responses to those needs SHOULD change. I just hate how much money I spent on the disc systems (I have a junior/ A5 system and a letter-size). It is over $500 for sure. I am doing my best to use stickers now with every set-up. I am still using the letter system for my business--forcing it, really. So, this was a VERY long narrative to say, "I get it and I see you." Peace.
Oh goodness, I tried to make discs work too, and to me the only bonus over rings was that you could bend the notebook back on itself. The pages look awful if you take them off the discs. I LOVE that Stalogy, and know it hasn’t seen its last days in my lineup for sure!
So sorry you're going through perimenopause. Honestly, people just don't understand how difficult it is on your physical and mental health. I finally got through it and am now officially in menopause. Take care of yourself, and know you're not alone in this. Hugs and prayers! 😊
This part is so much harder than I imagined it would be! My emotions have taken a beating, and having always struggled with anxiety and depression at times, this is just not cool. I’m glad you made it through!
I completely understand I have been through a stack of planners and still don’t feel settled. ❤ Remember muscle weighs more than fat. Give yourself some grace.
I’m in a similar place on many fronts. I’m still planner hopping. I’m dealing with perimenopause and have plateaued on my 15 month weight loss and fitness journey. I’m rethinking some things like ditching fasting and focussing on less meat and more plant based proteins as that has slipped. Peri really does a number on how your body uses energy and stores it as I know you are aware. Like you I’m easier on myself for planner hopping as I have the stash to go into something else easily to hand that works at the various junctions. Appreciate your honesty and openness because I do think how we feel about planning is linked to many non planning things. People suggesting what you need to do is well intended but in my experience rarely helpful! I can imagine being off here helps immensely too on wonky days and weeks. So I appreciate your update and I appreciate you. X
My heart knows that I’ll get past this plateau, but my head is kind of freaking out. I’m hoping the hormones help, because I’m not ready to call my journey complete. I WILL continue Keto and fitness either way, but to reach my goal would be fabulous.
Glad to see you back! I had kept checking and it was getting past a month. Seems like alot of other RUclipsrs are still bouncing between planners. But do whatever works for you when. I think changing planners, covers, making seasonal inserts thinks keeps things fresh and keeps us interested. I use a different colored pen every few days so I can use as many as I can and keep me focused. It's the same with my fitness routine, I just changed my running route after several months and it feels kind of nice to have a change of scenery.
I agree, it’s not bad to have something new to keep us interested. I’d just like one darn book for consistency. Then I get annoyed at using more than one book. 😂
I actually love bouncing back and forth between planners. It's like a journey to figure out what I really want in a planner. As well as an exercise in not feeling 'bad' about not using certain planners and notebooks as much as I thought I would, or as much as I felt the planner/notebook 'deserved' to be used. I have a whole section in my bookcase just full of unused planners. Most of them undated fortunately, so I don't feel they are wasted. It's just not their time yet
Undated is definitely good for that. Unfortunately for me, undated never really make it because I look at all the work involved and freeze up. I don’t really hate planner hopping because it’s fun to do something different, but I romanticize a well-loved book for sure.
@@samplans I know all about the manual dating. Hate it. I got an adjustable stamp so I could date the pages with the correct month/year and only have to write the day numbers. Also it helps to only date a few weeks at a time so you don't get overwhelmed
Hi Sam! Feel for you. As usual, I'm in same boat. Was looking at all my past planners and realized I'm completely MIA from around Oct-March. Lack of sunshine/short days make me like a mole and I write nothing. Plus, perimenopause doesn't help, as you understand. I find I'm very indecisive and that's not helpful to say the least. Thank you for the video!💖
9:13 def experiencing a similar falling out with the weeks that breaks my heart because I've loved it so much. but for the same reasons you mentioned, it just stresses me out lately.
Did you look at the Sterling Ink B6? It has the months together in the front and unstacked weeks. I bought both the Wonderland 222 and the Sterling Ink and I just couldn’t do the stacked weekends. But I rather the months within the weeks with an overview, and the holidays and moon phases. But in the end the stacked weekends were a deal breaker with the W222.
When I had the W222 planner a few years ago, I also didn't love the months sprinkled through. I ended up putting an oli clip clipping the month and week together. So one side of the clip is the current month, and the other is the week. That helped me feel less frustrated that I can't "find" the month/week. Tabs definitely help too!
I hear you about our Ohio winter weather! Your honesty is appreciated! I get some good ideas from you when you're processing through your planners and the changes you make and why. I gave up my weeks planner and went back into rings, so you're not alone! Thank you for taking the time to share!😊
Ah, Sam. I’m sorry you have had a rough start of the year emotionally. ❤. I think it’s totally natural to want change planners. I change purses and pens like I changed my 7 kids diapers. A LOT!! But that’s ok. It’s something we enjoy. Keep everything semi ready for when you want to go back. To say that you can walk in a store and pick up something that is really nice and be able to put it back down is a total win. So, congratulations! Also, I know your weight is super important and you are doing all the right things that are healthy for yourself. Remember that this is a health journey. We are all very proud of you Sam. Look at all you’ve done in 2024. Not only financial self control, but you’ve made amazing health choices that have gotten you where you are today. ❤So you are making amazing health changes both physically and mentally. I will pray for your health choices to remain healthy and that you do not entertain unhealthy thoughts. Both planner related and weight related. You are allowed to change planners and not have any guilt for doing it. Though, I know it’s a lot of work to get a new planner filled in with schedules and etc…. I have missed you and I’m glad that you let us know how you are doing. I am proud of you. You are doing a great job Sam. 🥰
Sam, thank you so much for your video here. I am a new ring planner as of the last year… Started my own small business last July. I just had my birthday last weekend and was hoping to get a gift subscription to Van der spek. I didn’t get that unfortunately but, I did get $100 Amazon gift. So I purchased the Malden from a reputable person that had good reviews. A little nervous, after listening to your tutorial about the Malden not being as good as previous. I hope, I enjoy it. I have been using some print pression planners. But they seem to be a little bulky. I hope that the Malden works well for me.😊
I have bought an embarassing amount of planners this year but the only one I've used consistently is the SI B6 full year. I track my time on the weeklies but there are some weeks when I just never get around to filling it out. I started the year with a dedicated journal but I just journal mixed in with my to do lists. It's not as aesthetic but it's better than not journalling ever. I do love using an undated W222 for my office job because I can use the stacked weekends as whatever lists I need. Every other planner has fallen by the wayside, it feels like. Really feeling you on the weight loss. I also have a history of ED and a months-long plateau. Don't have anything to offer except solidarity ❤
Thank you. I actually really tightened up my eating, assuming I wasn’t “clean” enough and was SO HUNGRY. Decided to track my macros for the first time in almost a year…I’m not eating enough calories, not enough protein, and I’m way under on the carbs from my assumption too. No wonder. I’m lifting heavier and heavier and my body is over it. ED lie to us for sure. I’m going to start tracking until I know I’m eating enough. We can do this! (Even through a plateau!)
No buy was not good to me this year so far, but I have discovered some great supplies😂. I have 2 malden and they are so different from each other. The duck-egg will never lay flat, drives me nuts. The Stone I got a couple of weeks ago is perfect, she lays flat, she's squishy and soft, I love her 💕 and the stone is quite a bit darker than I expected, but I think it's beautiful. Anyway I think I just got really lucky 😊 have a great day, welcome back.
Perimenopause here, too 😦it's no joke. Fortunately, my planner has been my one thing that has been my constant... I have found peace with my Cousin. It just works so well for me. I'm finishing up school to be a SpEd teacher and I keep thinking about what planner I want to use when I start teaching and that W222 really looks appealing! Thank you for sharing - that could be just the thing. The Weeks just doesn't work for me, as much as I've tried. I like the B6 size!! Hang in there, Sam. Keep doing what works for you -- even if it means hopping!! 🐇
I’m having a hard time with my Weeks this year, too. I relegated it to my “archive” planner since I don’t keep my ring inserts (although I hate re-writing stuff). I think the reason I desperately want to hang on to the Weeks is because I have 5 years worth and LOVE paging back through them. 😢
Yes! It’s my history with the Weeks more than anything. I’m just not feeling it this year, and if it has the same paper next year, I’m not sure what I’ll do. Maybe writing short weekly entries won’t be a problem, but I’m not enjoying it in the A6 at all.
It is totally in the air or water I think. I live in Kentucky and we have had a great spring, but man, my allergies are kicking!! I have changed planners so many times this year more than any other year and I started in 2015.
So I love the Hobo Weeks, I'd say it's as close to perfect for me as it can get. But I'm the same way as you, I hate when it looks haphazard and messy. My solution has been to either take a deep breath, slow down and take my time planning. Or, if I need to quickly jot something down, I use one of the cute stickies I keep prepared on the front pages. That way I can copy it later with better handwriting. I'm trying to be more intentional about life in general, so this works great for me. 😊 Well, I say Hobo Weeks but I'm actually in the Sterling Ink version. They feel so similar to me that I keep forgetting. 😅
Franklin Covey Compact is wider. A true “compact” personal size is the same paper and regular personal size, but the binder itself is not as wide, rings are smaller.
I so get the want to toss it all and grocery store plan….i have boxes up my things several time and said “I’m only using a composition notebook.” And then fail on that 😂 I feel that sometimes I have too many options and it just stresses me out
I am sorry you have a hard time. I do like to see all the stuff and hear about the stuff you have tried that didn’t work out. I kept changing things and didn’t settle on anything until mid March before going back to usual personal rings with Filofax inserts. Which I have been using most years since the 80s. You’d think I’d know better by now. 🤦🏻♀️
I think you need to just pick ONE planner and use the only ONE that you pick and put all the others away. Have you tried the Planner Perfect System. I get new a new book for each month and it keeps me happy. Her method for planning is great, to plan with intention.🙂
I also am so saddened by the change in the Hobonichi paper to the Sanzen (Tomoe River S)! I have used Hobonichi for so many years…. It’s my perfect planner and journal. I abandoned all of my 2024 Hobonichi books and and so glad that I have hoarded plenty of them, along with the plain notebooks, through the years. I personally can’t seem to give up Hobonichi so I am going to redate the old books and enjoy that Tomoe River paper for the next 10 years! Lol
Good for you having a solution! I’m sure this is the answer Hobonichi has landed on, so I think they won’t change it. I was hoping I’d like this paper BETTER, but I just don’t.
Don’t forget that muscle weighs more than fat, so if you’re consistently working out and lifting weights and can see the shape of your body changing you are losing fat, you’re just gaining muscle. ❤
I know, and I try to tell myself that, I keep increasing the weight that I lift. My eating disorders and body dysmorphia make it hard to get my head right at times. Thanks for the comment!
1pound of muscle Weighs as much as 1 lb of fat The amount of space it takes up is different. But a pound is a pound. Glycogen stored in muscles can cause water weight.
Muscle absolutely does not weigh more than fat. A pound of muscles weighs a pound. A pound of fat weights a pound. Just like a pound of feathers weigh a pound.
@@scf7334 Oh let’s nitpick. You know what I meant by it. If she’s replacing fat with muscle than the scales won’t go down. But it’s still a win because it’s weight lost and muscle gained. I just didn’t say it in the perfect way, but she absolutely knew what I meant and she’s who I was talking to and she’s who matters here.

Thank you so, so much. I appreciate you, your kind words, your support. I hope you and your family are well!
For your Weeks, you should try the Sterling Ink N2 (I think that’s the number). There are grids on both sides of the paper.
thank you for sharing your process. whatever works!
Thank you!
Hello, Sam! You are awesome and brave and allowed to change your mind as often as you please! Because you can! And: it's fun!🎉 🥳
Planner hopping can be fun!
My planner is very put together and it’s not not crappy haha. I just lied. I’m with you sistah!
I ADORE your pages!!
I hope that the Malden works well for me.😊
Thank you for the update! Whatever works! I hate feeling down. I hope you feel better!🌞☀🌻
Thank you!
I’m glad the cousin works so well for you, and thank you for choosing your line of work! What a difference you will make in many lives! 🫶🏻
Love your updates and hearing your thought process. That Gillio is gorgeous!
Thank you! It’s so pliable and lovely!
Great book: Nora Roberts "Inheritance," but beware, it is part 1 of 3 and the next is not dropping until the fall.
Thank you! Writing it down!
Great update thanks for posting ❤😊
Thank you for watching!!
Can you please share what brand is the small black planner you showed at Target?
It’s a weekly Moleskine!
@@samplans thank you!!!
Yes, I only love it when I slow down to put things in my weeks. Sometimes that part just annoys me, and I hop out of it!
What's the difference -- personal size to compact size? Compact is... bigger?
Franklin Covey Compact is wider. A true “compact” personal size is the same paper and regular personal size, but the binder itself is not as wide, rings are smaller.
I so get the want to toss it all and grocery store plan….i have boxes up my things several time and said “I’m only using a composition notebook.” And then fail on that 😂 I feel that sometimes I have too many options and it just stresses me out
Yes yes yes.
I feel the exact same way. Rings work, but sometimes you just have to have fun with something new!
I think you need to just pick ONE planner and use the only
ONE that you pick and put all the others away.
Have you tried the Planner Perfect System.
I get new a new book for each month and it keeps me happy.
Her method for planning is great, to plan with intention.🙂
Oh I agree, one planner would be fabulous. I’ve not tried that system because I’ve found strings to be awkward. But I never say never!
I'm in C'bus, moved here from Alabama. Saying Ohio doesn't understand Spring is putting it nicely!😂
I’m sure that was a BIG change in climate. I’m closer to Cleveland, so I’d say it gets a little cooler here, but without the lake effect snow.
ALL 👏🏼 CAUGHT 👏🏼 UP 😂❤ this feels weirddddd. Lol.
I guess I need to film another video. 😅🫶🏻
1pound of muscle
Weighs as much as 1 lb of fat
The amount of space it takes up is different. But a pound is a pound.
Glycogen stored in muscles can cause water weight.
I’ve heard not to weigh when you are sore, so that makes sense.
I will agree. I do not like the new hobo paper
I’m hoping I’ll still like it for regular writing in the Weeks. 😅
@@samplans ya know. I tried so hard this year to like it. And it just didn’t gel with me. At all. Last year I had a full weeks completed. This year barely touched it. So now I have a simple two planner system for next year
IAM EXACTLY. WHERE U R.
I hope the second quarter is better for both of us!
@@samplans Wishing you luck. My health both physical and mental ia all over the place. In 3 months ive tried ao many systems and planners already. Anxiety and panic , menopause and other issues are not making it easy. There is no such thing as planner peace I know. but its SOOOOO hard to even get close to sealing a particular system
first
Sell one to me, but I want a wallet with rings
